TV ratings are a measure of popularity that again matters to the league bcuz of how they take in money, but the league remains as culturally relevant as ever imo. i don’t think there’s a problem at all beyond ppl under 35 not paying for cable.

any serious fallout from less sports revenue will show up in mlb well before the nba i'd think

Rondo and Dwight being good is weird.

That rondo runner from behind the backboard lol

Spottie, Saturday, 19 September 2020 03:18 (three years ago) link

Weird game overall interested to see what Malone can come up with

Spottie, Saturday, 19 September 2020 03:21 (three years ago) link

This might be my least favorite lakers team of all the lakers teams I’ve hated. Sorry carne

Spottie, Saturday, 19 September 2020 03:33 (three years ago) link

lol it’s a weird team! I gotta say I’m happy for Howard of all people.

The laker defense really is elite and that’s something to admire I guess

i think if we've learned anything it's that vogel is a very good defensive coach

Not sure the nuggets can handle being down 1-0

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 19 September 2020 03:50 (three years ago) link

Coach Cal has to be grinning ear to ear, probably does most of the time anyway, seeing that this final four quartet of clubs is full of ex UK guys he coached.

Everyone could see that AD was going to be amazing, but Herro, Bam, Murray all were good but not the GUY on their teams at all in Lexington.

earlnash, Saturday, 19 September 2020 11:46 (three years ago) link

Some of those fouls calls on Jokic were no bueno

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 19 September 2020 12:57 (three years ago) link

24 fouls on denver in one quarter... yeah

micah, Saturday, 19 September 2020 13:41 (three years ago) link

Big difference in how Zubac was officiated and how Dwight was officiated. Honestly pretty sketch

lag∞n, Saturday, 19 September 2020 18:41 (three years ago) link

they should try getting down 3-1 again and see what happens

J0rdan S., Saturday, 19 September 2020 18:46 (three years ago) link

Haven’t liked any of the matchups for them so far lol. 3-1 idea not too bad...

lag∞n, Sunday, 20 September 2020 03:23 (three years ago) link

that run where the celtics kept stealing the ball and dunking it was sick

lag∞n, Sunday, 20 September 2020 03:26 (three years ago) link

that's a good play if you can pull it off

EDUCATION REFORM

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Sunday, 20 September 2020 16:09 (three years ago) link

I am an avowed hayward hater but he made a big difference last night
Herro looks suspiciously like a megastar in the making.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Sunday, 20 September 2020 16:09 (three years ago) link

I really wish Hayward wasn’t maga because he seems like a nice guy and he’s one of those jack of all trades master of none guys who I really love in the NBA.

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 20 September 2020 16:18 (three years ago) link

caring about celebrity politics is the most tedious thing in the world but theres really no evidence that hayward is maga

lag∞n, Sunday, 20 September 2020 16:30 (three years ago) link

Kyle Lowry was also EDUCATION REFORM so maybe drop that tedious bs

haywards wife donated to trump

lag∞n, Sunday, 20 September 2020 18:03 (three years ago) link

Trump donor goes with “education reform,” I think it’s ok to put this puzzle together

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 20 September 2020 18:04 (three years ago) link

It’s not as bad as what McHale and Cousy have done but it is what it is

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 20 September 2020 18:05 (three years ago) link

okay man

lag∞n, Sunday, 20 September 2020 18:05 (three years ago) link

He’s pretty rich he can balance out his “wife’s donation” whenever

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 20 September 2020 18:06 (three years ago) link

he secretly funneled $600 to the trump campaign using his wife as a cutout

lag∞n, Sunday, 20 September 2020 18:07 (three years ago) link

i just want you to know that i resent you guys for dragging me into this terrible conversation, its like how boomers cant help just spontaneously talking about trump unprovoked, and i do also think that the fascination with celebrity politics is somehow resonant with whatever it is that makes democrats so useless, and yeah no one is contesting the fact that robyn hayward have trump $600 four years ago

lag∞n, Sunday, 20 September 2020 18:29 (three years ago) link

Shouldn't be surprised you're covering for a fellow Republican donor

All I did was say he was maga

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 20 September 2020 20:03 (three years ago) link

i haven't paid attention to basketball since the rondo / pierce days of the celtics - i moved to the UK 2006-ish - but my sports-mad kids have latched onto basketball in a big way. endless youtubes of like 'the top 130 assists ever' etc.

so i'm paying attention now.

what i'm struck by is the speed of play. i always used to think college hoops were more exciting because they just went all out. pro ball involved a lot of point guards passing it around, looking for a post-up player. (to be reductive about it)

but now - it's fucking manic and it's amazing.

i don’t think the league is going to get any less visible

Jordan otm. culturally, the amount of action, everything about basketball is the best. it's immediately graspable, it's cool as shit to watch and it's fun to play. also the NBA has never been nearly as beholden to the tedious reverential bullshit that plagues other sports. (which probably has something to do with how black it is).

anyway, i'm fuckin psyched about watching these playoffs!!
