Not to defend the riducle of fat people per se here, but consider two things: hearing people have sex is irritating, hearing people have sex and thus imagining this going on when you find one of these people gross looking is another -- i.e. if his roommate were dating some slim supermodel hearing her have sex wouldn't call to mind the same images, and thus might not be as much of an issue.

Second: He hears the slapping which I assume is caused by the sex act itself and not ass-slapping over the course of this. But in either case this slapping noise would be louder with a heavier person, again adding to the annoyance factor.

In other words, I don't think we should just be like "fuck fucking fatties dumb fat fucks" (/cartman) but y'know there was actually some relevance to this information.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 15 November 2002 06:44 (twenty-one years ago) link

I don't know if it's been scientifically tested but the loudness-of-slapping thing sounds like nonsense.

Making too much noise doing anything in shared accomodation *is* rude if it's in the middle of the night - sex is no exception. I think there's an added thrill of faux-illicitness in trying to keep it quiet, anyway, but my tastes don't run to "FUCK YOU MCFLY!"

I'm with Jess and Alex on the fat thing, generally. Anti-fat prejudice does not however equate to the holocaust - I wish people would think before posting stuff like that cos it's waving a big sign around saying "HEY EVERYONE DONT TAKE ME SERIOUSLY!". Mind you that's what Ian, Aaron etc. have been doing too, so fair's fair.

Jess - so what if you're fat and British? Is that worth poking fun at?

MTJ, Friday, 15 November 2002 14:56 (twenty-one years ago) link

Draw a poster of a big fat slapper getting porked noisily by a little no-mates.
Pin it up by the cinnamom/marshmallows.

widgeon Holland, Friday, 15 November 2002 15:02 (twenty-one years ago) link

Hold on. What's being British got to do with all this? Firstly we have very serene quiet sex, secondly we don't do 'marshmallows and cinamon', thirdly if we were having sex next door to this gentleman we'd knock and invite him in if he promised to hold up her stomach whilst we tucked into some prime beef curtains...

Thin White Duke, Friday, 15 November 2002 15:04 (twenty-one years ago) link

marcello, the point of "taking a break" is not to come back and do exactly what drove you over the edge in the first place.

can i just say that i really feel bad for yancey having to now be associated with what this turned into?

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 15 November 2002 15:07 (twenty-one years ago) link

This thread has it all. Fat jokes AND fat sanctimony! Hysterical.

fatrocks, Friday, 15 November 2002 15:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

you mean like being british?

hehehe! good answer!

poor old yancey, bet he wishes he'd never started this thread! fwiw, i think they're being pretty thoughtless, shared accomodation is a difficult one. i have been very lucky in that i have lived with considerate people (even the spiritualist one in arsenal was considerate), and never had any kind of problem, certainly nothing along these lines. in these circumstances i would be looking to move out. not specifically because of this, but you don't get on with the guy anyway, so i'd want to go and live with people i might actually converse with, and stuff

gareth (gareth), Friday, 15 November 2002 15:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

Can someone tell me what exactly constitutes a 'superfluous' ear? I have two and they are both very necessary, thanks. Moving on, are you aware how ludicrous you sound, fighting for the right of the fat to be fat? Why is it a political issue for you morons, screaming about tolerance and then bringing up the holocaust (I hope that was tongue in cheek, otherwise you are one skewed individual)? I am not slim myself but you lot of cretinous crusaders make me die, you really do. I bet you hate smokers too. Muppets. Christ almighty, don't you have better things to get upset about? Rant over. Yancey, stick to your guns. I liked the drawing idea posted above to be left near the cinnamon. Use it. ta ta for now.

Graham (graham), Friday, 15 November 2002 15:28 (twenty-one years ago) link

I can hear them talking. "Should we put cinnamon or marshmallows on that?" he asks. "Both!" she exclaims. WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY MAKING???

"Thanksgiving is just around the corner and the meal at my house
is never complete without this casserole on the table. Everyone
loves this dish, even those who won't touch regular old sweet
potatoes. Try it for yourself and see!

Ingredients:

3 cups mashed sweet potatoes
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup butter, melted
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp cinnamon

Topping:
combine: 1 cup brown sugar
1/2 stick butter
1/3 cup flour
1/2 to 1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup miniature marshmellows

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Boil the potatoes whole until tender. Remove and let cool
completely.

After the potatoes are cooled, put them in a large bowl and
mash them as you would regular potatoes.

Add the rest of the ingredients.

Pour into a large buttered baking dish.

Cover the potatoes with the topping of your choice.

Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes."

Hi everybody!

Last night I wasn't home very much, so I didn't hear anything. They were microwaving peach cobbler though.

As for everyone getting so pissy with me... Jesus. I really have no idea what to say. Obviously I annoyed some with those bits and some people then blew them completely the fuck out of proportion. Those of you who chastised me in a civil way, I apologize. The rest of you assholes bitching at me, Go fuck yourselves. And I mean that in a very endearing way.

Are all the Fatty apologists a tad on the tubby side.

I suggest entering the kitchen slapping 2 pork chops together and screaming like a porn starlet whilst they are cooking. Just to raise the subject

Fat English Bloke, Friday, 15 November 2002 16:44 (twenty-one years ago) link

To raise a practical suggestion...
You should subversively audio record the couple in their throes. Then, release the choice bits as a CD, a la Shut Up, Little Man. "F-ck you, McFly!" is GOLD. GOLD, I tell you. Then, you'll start looking forward to their coital outbursts.

Ernest P. (ernestp), Friday, 15 November 2002 17:07 (twenty-one years ago) link

graham, to answer your question: now it is.

(this is not to say that ernest's isn't a good suggestion. just that a thread is usually over by the time of the sub-carlin anonymous dicking about.)

(and i feel bad for yancey.)

Don't cry for me, ILE!

Yeah, it sucks how this blew up. Oh well.

Yancey (ystrickler), Friday, 15 November 2002 17:21 (twenty-one years ago) link

Well, it's not like you can yell 'get a room' 'cos they've got one. You have to tell them their noise is getting on your nerves; bitching about them behind their (beast with two) backs is just making you angrier, so go and tell them. Loud shaggers in shared accomodation should try to be more considerate. They may well have zero clue they're annoying you.

As to fattism generally, I know there are anti-fattist pressure groups and everything - we *do* appraise based on appearance and that should be combatted whenever possible but STILL, 1am fridge raids are gross (mitigating factor: stoned people DO get the munchies). If the woman really does tip the scales at 300lbs I'd be worried about her health.

Jess, try not to be so touchy about what mall rats say to your girlfriend; I know you love her and karma rewards these people generally.

everyone has horrible habits but monitering others' flaws, sitting there being affronted by them, is often just as vile. (this doesn't really apply to yancey because of his flatmates''in yr face' stunts - it's that "eww fat people eating" mentality that others on this thread seem to have - why should it have any impact on you? mind your own business.)

Geepers Creepers.
Lets be nice to the Brits ay?
They have good beer.
And fatist rubbish arse. Isn't it about being comfortable with what you look like - if you "feel" sexy and someone you are attracted to feels you - I mean "feels" you are sexy too - then thats it.
Yancy why are you living with someone who won't let you sleep to the extent that you are really mad with him? You should not feel responsible for him loosing his "penthouse" contract.
MOVE OUT.... GET OFF YOUR ARSE - CHECK CRAIGS LIST - SOMETHING!!

Lucy W, Friday, 15 November 2002 20:29 (twenty-one years ago) link

Yancey, nice funny story you started with, sort of thing you talk to your mates about for a harmless laff when down the pub. Its a shame the PC brigade (jes, thats you) have to make the issue serious.

I have worked with people like you Jess, and if you get into positions of power, you have the ability to rip the spirit out of an organisation, sanitising all forms of wit where posible, in case it offends someone somewhere.

People with good sense of humour have the ability to poke fun at themselves also, and dont take stuff as seriousely as you. And after all your PC talk, you then have a go at someone for being british....I bet you take the Mel Gibson Movies as a history lesson.

If you want to fuck fat, do it, if you want to be fat, be fat, and be happy, and laff back at the thin people who feel sorry for you, because their skin nornally wrinkles prematurerly, and are often constipated, and live their life around the Gym and the Mirror

I am overweight, and I dont give a shit, My friends call me fat bastard, I always take it with a smiling face, and get them back later with a sharp cutting comment, that is very satisfying.

It doesnt matter, its funny, but realise one thing, Fat is beautiful in the eye of the beholder, but Fat people look better in baggy clothes to the majority, therefore just as if I were to go out in a lycra Tshirt, I would get stared / laughed at, your partner will get the same in her cropped top. Dont test the world by being too different, if you cant take the worlds response.

Regards

Good God we can't even laugh at other people any more what is the world coming to!

I think it's funny and sad that you lot are coming from the AFC Wimbledon board, which offers a pretty good (inspiring, even) lesson in what happens when people don't just meekly take what other people decide they have coming to them and decide to kick up a fuss about how they're treated. Nobody's deleted or censored Yancey's post or anyone else's, it's still there. Plenty of people agreed with it. Jess and others just argued with it and good for them. Oh, sorry, I forgot, "Don't test the world by being too different" - yeah, don't show any spirit, stick to cheap laughs down the pub, mock the weak and brown-nose the strong. "I have worked with people like you" - I'm sure most of us could say the same, David Brent.

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 16 November 2002 03:03 (twenty-one years ago) link

its always such a nice surprise to see these threads with triple digit new answers, "what the hell's going on in here??" so what is widewonderful world, and also what is thefridaything.co.uk

ron (ron), Saturday, 16 November 2002 03:11 (twenty-one years ago) link

"Don't test the world by being too different" is slightly out of context. If you want to test the status quo, thats great, but its not advisable if you are likely to be offended by the predictable result.

P C, Saturday, 16 November 2002 03:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

No, get offended! Get offended if you think it's wrong! Just cos the result is predictable doesn't make it right. I'm sorry but even in context what you're saying boils down to "don't rock the boat".

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 16 November 2002 03:17 (twenty-one years ago) link

Good lord, coming back to it later I didn't expect this argument to detonate quite so spectacularly.
