this is a more conservative list than Q magazine would produce

most of these were locked in 10+ years ago when the site was heavy on prog/metal nerds and its taken the likes of kendrick lamar to displace them. wonder what it'd look like if you only counted active accounts

That GYBE album at 13 is maybe the weirdest entry?

I gave up on making a “so literally all music made by a solo female artist is inferior to album X” post as there were too many options

rym yearly charts are like

20s - good
30s - good
40s - good
50s - good, bit conservative
60s - good, if predictable
70s - fairly good, but even more predictable
80s - weird
90s - more predictable than good
00s - just predictable
10s - a few cliques fighting to get their stuff on top, to nobody's benefit.

Very few albums I count on to bring me joy in the next years
Weirdest has to be Neutral Milk Hotel or maybe In Rainbows
It was between King Crimson, Wu-Tang, Talking Heads, Pixies, Sonic Youth, The Smiths. Went with Wu-tang.
I expect a Bowie (boring) win

but one of those cliques is weird art-pop, and another is weird art-metal, and I'm in those cliques

80s RYM Charts are really very odd, a few of the expected canon albums, then loads of thrash metal, classical recordings and post-punk from around the world. Which I suppose is good? Not sure.

its one of the most endearing parts of that site. amusingly I've been seeing something similar happen with Kyuusai no Gihou, it had like 15 ratings when I 5-starred it and now it's bold with over 800

I must be misremembering then. I thought his whole shtick was that melody rules supreme and that all other musical parameters must subside into the background in order to let the melodic line sing in all of its unvarnished purity.

Checked the top 200 for female artists. There’s only three albums in there:

154 Joanna Newsom Ys
158 Bjork Post
163 Joni Mitchell Blue

I guess Portishead, Fleetwood Mac partially count too since they have a frontwoman.

There's maybe like 3-4 albums on this list I don't really care for so clearly it's doing a good job of catering to my demographic.

It's still astonishingly boring, though.

It's almost as if their star-rating methodology has nothing to do with designing a fun listicle that can logically compare to ones compiled by journalists.

Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets are about equally good and I'm happy the results reflect this.
