by my own hand alas. the list of suspects is long though. a very ingredient-happy stir-fry

imago, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 12:41 (three years ago) link

Extremely in character, this plus the long soup is confirmation enough never to eat anything you’ve cooked

imago, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 12:51 (three years ago) link

uh oh was it fried rice syndrome?

contorted filbert (harbl), Tuesday, 15 September 2020 12:53 (three years ago) link

it was either the fish, the pak choi, the tomatoes or the jackfruit, and whatever it was, it got me up to nearly 40 celsius

imago, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 12:59 (three years ago) link

anyway i've been very indulgent and will yield the floor to people who actually have the rona

imago, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 12:59 (three years ago) link

Happy to hear it (well, not that you have food poisoning, but y’know).

pomenitul, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 13:15 (three years ago) link

I, my wife and both kids all have sore throats and feel a bit weak today, hm...

Allergies?

ABBA O RLY? (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 15 September 2020 19:38 (three years ago) link

none of us have any allergies, no

Oh, sorry...

ABBA O RLY? (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 15 September 2020 19:41 (three years ago) link

The simultaneity of the symptoms appearing suggests to me something environmental or else very contagious. Good luck.

Keep us posted, CAL.

Kids always pick up shit the first weeks back at school... hope it’s that and not that

scampo italiano (gyac), Tuesday, 15 September 2020 19:45 (three years ago) link

I mean.. it's day three or four and we all still basically feel ok, like if I was at work I would probably go in, so if we have it it's probably a mild case. Will try to get tested tomorrow.

这是我的显示名称 (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Tuesday, 15 September 2020 20:04 (three years ago) link

Got an appointment for our 6-y-o son to get tested tomorrow morning. Thanks to whoever tipped Stet off about the next day's testing appointments going live around 8pm :D We're pretty sure it's not Covid but without a negative test he can't go back to school and I would like some peace it is so important for him to continue his education.

Madchen, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 20:08 (three years ago) link

If the testing system is going to fall over with every outbreak of minor sniffles in schools then we're really in trouble. There's definitely something going round but it's probably not covid on the basis that so many children seem to have it.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 20:17 (three years ago) link

Yeah, a few of his mates have had the sniffles but of course he’s the only one with a cough.

Madchen, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 20:20 (three years ago) link

Didn’t your household have it earlier in the year? Surely he would have had a dose then.

scampo italiano (gyac), Tuesday, 15 September 2020 20:21 (three years ago) link

I think nearly all the families I know with kids who've gone back to school have at least one person with bog standard cold symptoms (me included as of tonight - yay) so I'm not too worried.
It happened when they went back during lockdown too. I seem to catch every cold going and then some whereas the rest of my household is pretty immune.
Obv if there's high temps as well you'd better get tested.

kinder, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 20:22 (three years ago) link

Didn’t your household have it earlier in the year? Surely he would have had a dose then.

We’re pretty sure we did, though tests weren’t available at the time unless you were admitted to hospital. And while Stet had it badly and I had it mildly, F had chickenpox! Maybe he had Covid at the same time, I dunno. Whatever, it’s kind of irrelevant because if he went to school with a cough he’d be sent home for a test anyway. So the only routes for us now are (a) no school for 10 days or (b) get a negative result and straight back in. I guess I could have told the school he was home with a cold and not mentioned the cough, but I’m well honest innit.

Madchen, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 20:55 (three years ago) link

No rona. But i now have a bacterial infection quite deep that may require surgery.

bogo jumbo boba (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 17 September 2020 17:51 (three years ago) link

Yikes!

No rona here, confirmed by text at 6.15am.

Madchen, Thursday, 17 September 2020 17:56 (three years ago) link

Oof, best wishes Sufjan

I seem to be in that category kinder described right now.

ABBA O RLY? (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 18 September 2020 02:51 (three years ago) link

xp thanks, table. I had a small surgery yesterday. Now i have a tube running into my buttcheek connected to a wound vac. I have to take one home and carry around like Radio Raheem for a week. But it wasn't rona or even fishjackfruit.

bogo jumbo boba (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 18 September 2020 16:06 (three years ago) link

Oof! As someone with much experience in the 'tubes going into very uncomfortable parts of my body' department, I hope it isn't too awful and that everything is okay!

healthy cocaine off perfect butts (the table is the table), Friday, 18 September 2020 18:31 (three years ago) link

thanks again, and it's not so bad. if it becomes uncomfortable, i can indeed remember the experiences of others on this board. this is nothing compared to what you went through.

bogo jumbo boba (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 18 September 2020 20:24 (three years ago) link

My son is off school today looking quite listless, in bed all day + with standard cold symptoms and some coughing, but thank fuck a normal temperature of thereabouts 98f. If he develops a fever then that's when I'll be in a state of PANIC!

calzino, Friday, 18 September 2020 20:36 (three years ago) link

Sounds worse than my 9 days of feeling extremely rundown, but ymmv. Glad you're on the mend. xp

two months pass...

my niece has the rona, there was an outbreak in her school :(

but it seems to be a mild dose (she's 13): thankfully her mum and dad seem to have dodged it so far (they live in a roomy house and can keep their distance if need be)

how is everyone from the thread doing all these months later?

mark s, Thursday, 10 December 2020 11:09 (three years ago) link

(eight whole months ffs)

mark s, Thursday, 10 December 2020 11:09 (three years ago) link

three teachers at my son's school have got the rona in the last month - it always was one of the most dangerous of professions but it's got even worse now.

calzino, Thursday, 10 December 2020 11:18 (three years ago) link

one month passes...

I forgot this was the thread for this, sorry. So today is day five. Feel pretty good if I don't try to do too much, but on the other hand, just washed my hair and then my arms felt tired and I was slightly dizzy from this great exertion.

If you've had the seasonal flu before, how bad is it in comparison?

I usually don't get the flu.

fingers crossed for a mild case and a swift recovery, Redd.

Somebody else called back from NYC H&H to talk me about my daughter as having come in contact with someone with COVID and that call took twice as long as the one concerning me.
