I should give reasons.
Boxcar Willie – perfect globes, resistant to disease and cracking. (Downside: I wish they were a little bigger.)Matt's Wild Cherry – cute clusters like currants, extremely sweet, best eaten half-ripeBlondkopfchen – Good flavor, insanely large yields

OK seriously I figured we could get to at least 20 or 25 noms in no time. Wtf do people not have TCB on their SNA?

I dont know how widespread cultivars are but when it comes to growing em, I like:
Tommy ToeRomaGrosse Lisse (an old standard)
Eating wise, who knows what the supermarkets are selling, prob mostly hotbox-ripened grosse lisse and tommytoes.

xp i'd normally have a lot to say about this sort of thing but my lack of tomato knowledge is shameful and i assume those broad varieties like "roma" have tons of sub-categories (like WmC's answer, e.g.)

Phew I do not know anything about tomatoes. This year I planted about 5 different kinds but only the Red Cherry Large and--I think--Red Pride produced? I wouldn't say either was award-winning tho the cherries have a good, sweet flavor. And some Roma, idk which.
Idk if I can get behind non-red toms? Green and purple ones kinda freak me out.

We haven’t had ours produce hardly at all. I think our pot / placement / cultivar combo is just an epic fail. The more I learn about different kinds the more I’m disappointed they aren’t sold in stores.

One year when I had a big seed order from Tomatofest, they threw in a pack of Paul Robeson seeds -- purple-black variety from Russia, supposed to grow best in cool climates with short growing seasons. It didn't do well in the deep south and the few tomatoes I got didn't have a good flavor. Yellow Brandywine was a really good one. Aunt Ruby's German Green was ok but hard to tell when they were ripe.

Barry’s Crazy Cherry
I also would love to know what the cherry tomatoes I had from a farmers market Hokkaido last year were. They were absolutely stunning and I wonder if it was a specific variety or just a obsessively Japanese attitude to cultivation that made them so good.

The hundreds of tomato variants are so dependent on prevailing weather/climate/soil that if you grew the winner of this poll in the wrong place, it just wouldn't deliver the goods.

Last call for tomatoes will be the end of this month. At that point, by which most tomatoes in the north hemisphere will be out of season, I will begin the poll.
