maybe for $5 you get to write a comment, but other people ahve access to hack it apart and rewrite parts of it so you look like a total asshole, and then for $10 you get to write a comment, but you have to post a naked JPG of yourself as the avatar, for $20, you get to post whatever you want, and for $25 you can avoid seeing comments at all

I read Deadspin for 15-16 years but the draw was really the entire Gawker ecosystem. Magary was the major selling point of Deadspin itself for the last 5-6 years but not enough of one to get me to pay.

the isn't really the issue... it's that it's hard to claim authority on this subject as table is doing if you're linking to barstool -- whose rape, abuse, racism, apologia is a million times that of deadspin. there is simply no debate on this... it is essentially the source of the beef between the two sites, hence barstool digging up a 14 year old comment in the first place. it doesn't invalidate what was written in the comment but it undercuts the authority w/ which you can make the argument.

the correct response to reading the number "69" is to solemnly bow your head in silence. but not before you make sure that nobody else indulges in a harmless twitter meme.

I've enjoyed having the Athletic and still subscribe but tbh it's going to be dictated by the value you get for the specific team of writers who cover your hometown teams.

well you said you were "reminding" people, as if others had forgotten a piece of information and you hadn't. to me that implies a position of authority in the argument. anyway since the moral authority of sports bloggers is a subject you appear passionate about, i would suggest reading up on barstool. it might alter your desire to share links from that site.

the thing is you can't tell the story of deadspin w/o talking about sexism, as many articles profiling the site will prove. it's something that is worth confronting -- and the site itself has done so as others have pointed out -- but focusing on that comment more or less misses the forest for the trees on the subject

barstool is garbage that advertises itself openly as garbage, which is helpful.
