I'm Mark. I run a website with some friend called Music For Robots. I also do some other stuff, like the occasional freelance piece and whatnot. I live in Los Angeles with my girlfriend. Me = 27. I'm originally from New Hampshire and I often have my parents ship me maple syrup produced by the trees in my old neighborhood. It's delicious. I eat it with oatmeal regardless of how hot it is outside.

I am Michael. I am 29 and live in Park Slope, Brooklyn. I am mostly known around these parts for an acoustic cover of "I Kill Everything I Fuck" and for having panned a Momus album on Pitchfork (an album, I must add, that I came to like a year later). I'm not sure which of these two factoids I'm more eager to live down. I am your friendly resident authority on Russian pop and rock.

Joseph, does your knowledge extend to Croatia??--I have been trying to track down the MP3 version of Davoli's "Space Twist".

Male, 46, Los Angeles - just getting started with ILM. Amused. Last CD that surprised me was "It's Because of the Barcelona Pavillion" (Blocks Blocks Blocks, Canada) = 3 inches, 5 1/2 minutes and just friggin' nuts. Last album to play all the way through in the car: John & Beverly Martyn "Road To Ruin". New album I am amused by: Daft Punk "Human After All". Waiting on the new single and album from 'Alfie', a band from Manchester, signed to Regal in England. I am going to ComiCon in San Diego this weekend, and I'll probably stop at Lou's Records in Encinitas on the way down. R.I.P., Basil Kirchin. I hate copy-guarded CD's - that logo mars the packaging! More vinyl.

Hi, I've been here a couple of months and have been posting steadily, so now it's time for an introduction. I'm 28, male, single, from The Netherlands, work as a support desk employee for an ISP, and have been crazy about music since I was 11. I also write for some internet zines and got here via The Subjectivisten-forum. Favorite bands: Motorpsycho, Sonic Youth, Pavement, Modern Life Is War, Far, Quicksand, Zappa, Death, Meshuggah, Steely Dan, The Posies, At The Drive-In, Helmet, Bright Eyes, Bad Religion, and the list goed on and on.

I like it here.

Hi, I'm Zeus from Budapest, Hungary. I've been writing to this board since winter, I'm 30yrs old, and working as a kind of music journalist. My first favourite band were the Kinks, and the last band I'm in love with became Interpol last month, so far.

late '60s (first Soviet rock band = Riga's own the Yellow Postmen!) to now, I guess. Although I wouldn't claim to be an expert on "The Republics" (much less Croatia) - for instance, I'm guessing from your .ee address that you'd know much more about Estonian rock than I would... The only Eesti bands that come to mind are Ruja, Propeller and Dallas, and maybe Ne Zhdali (didn't Soibelman used to be based in Tallinn?)...

Shit, started posting at "I love Comics" and didn't know this kind of etiquette was needed. Anyway, i'm a long time ILM lurker from south america, there are not that many of us down there, but there are a few. I ran a blog from 2002 to 2004, but now that's as dead as Geri Halliwell's career. Then I had another blog with some other fellows, it was about pop music and now it's in the cryo chamber, but I hope it will be back some time down the road. We reached the top of our blogging popularity when we wrote some kind of "Mortal Kombat" between the first six singles of Girls Aloud and The Beatles, in an attempt to scientifically prove that GA were the best band ever. I remember Mr Popjustice noticed it and didn't understand any of it, but he seemed to like it. I had promised him to send a translation, but, well, life happened and the blog had to go for a while. MR PJ, if you are still interested, I'll be happy to hold on to my promise. Better late than never...

Now my friend Diego (who has been part of some Focus Group at freaky trigger, and has also been writing for Stylus Magazine) offered me to be part of Edward O's kinda classic "Cross Europe Charts", I did the first one, based on the charts from Denmark. Then he sent me yousendits for the one from Norway, which was really great, but I couldn't write anything because...well...life happened again. So if Edward gets back from wherever he is and sends me more yousendits, I hope I'll keep being part of that.

I really don't know if I'll ever get enough courage to be part of any of the wild discussions that take place here, but, well, I had to do this just in case.

iodine (iodine), Saturday, 16 July 2005 02:26 (eighteen years ago) link

okay, i never did this and always felt like it was too late. it's not and i need a break from studying for my midterm on monday. so:

i'm john, from chicago, 33 years old, first found ILM (via a link from woebot) to the covers drawn from memory threads last year. began posting as frankE, advocated strong for big & rich as album of the decade, stopped for a while after the 2004 election (nothing seemed to matter, woe is me and all that), came back as john'n'chicago, had some trouble logging in (apostrophes don't sit well with cookies apparently), settled with this new/improved name.

in a former life i was: high-school OCD record acquirer, college paper record reviewer, lackey for crappy teensy record companies, assistant to booking agent.

after all that, i stopped listening to music with any seriousness for years. not quite sure i do now.

my name is adrián ruiz, i'm 28 years old, a psychologist with a psychoanalitic orientation, also an editor at a local culture/entertainment magazine, Mandarina. I like The Fall, Wire, Sonic Youth, Pavement, Elephant 6 bands. Was a young communist, then a spacetravel enthusiast, then a Zapatista follower, and now a music lover :) And i'm singer with the local band Los Llamarada.

my name is jonathon, 29, married and father of 1, bachelor of arts in journalism, i'm in a touring band that i'd rather not name here because i'm too chicken ILMers will filet us alive and i'd rather post in obscurity, i've spent a lot of my twenties travelling and working for various music-related businesses in the US and Europe, have probably slept on every couch in North America, Eastern Canada, and Western Europe, i'm growing my first beard, my very first ILM post was locked by Ned Raggett, and i'm psyched to enter into these discussions, but i'll probably end up getting lazy and resorting to half-assed lurking most of the time.

nice to meet you all.

I always want to reintroduce myself when I see this thread, like the slightly retarded man who always wanted to rededicate his life to Christ when my father would give an altar call at one of the church's he served. (The emotional impact of that moment seemed to get that man every time.)

And Ned is like a greeter who stands at the entrance to the sanctuary.

(Amazing that people were already missing Geir Hongro before I first posted here.)

hi, i am: lindsay; 26; current resident of queens, ny but originally from maine; a piano/synth/home-recording hobbyist; working at a museum in a financial context; a bit shy; most at ease around other obsessive music nerds and happy to find so many in one place.

hello!

Hi there! We have a number of ex- or current Maine people around the boards so you'll be saying 'ayuh' in no time.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 10 February 2006 15:37 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm Stefan, 43, my photo is next to "lurker" in Webster's. I was born in New Hampshire, grew up in Cambridge, England, back to the States in 1985. Have lived in the Boston area since then, although my wife and I are planning to move to Maine in the next year or two. Some of you might know me from the Fall website (http://www.visi.com/fall), which I've worked on for close to 10 years now.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 10 February 2006 16:41 (eighteen years ago) link

I've been posting for a few months but never got around to introducing myself (how rude). In Austin, TX but originally from New York (upstate). Incapable of playing an instrument, but keen to listen.

patita (patita), Friday, 10 February 2006 17:18 (eighteen years ago) link

Where in upstate New York? We have a few veterans from there -- I was in Saratoga Springs for three years. And hi there!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 10 February 2006 17:28 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm Jack, 23, finishing undergrad in political science, thinking about graduate school in political philosophy, live in Toronto.

I've been a daily-lurker, sometimes-poster for maybe 6 months now. I've always loved music, but owing largely to an insanely conservative religious upbringing (Acquire the Fire rallies, CCM, reform party of canada, christian summer camps, you know the type), I've only got about 3-4 years of serious "secular" (ha ha) listening experience under my belt. So please forgive the occasional noob questions!

Two albums I've recently "discovered" thanks to ILM and absolutely adore: Talk Talk's Spirit of Eden and Villalobos' Achso EP.

jackl (jackl), Friday, 10 February 2006 18:58 (eighteen years ago) link

Acquire the Arcade Fire? Oh dear. ;-) Anyway, hiyer, and Talk Talk and Villalobos are fine places to me.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 10 February 2006 19:00 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't think I ever did this and if I do a search for 'Ned' - well you can guess...
Soooo...I'm 41, married with 2 children, living in the Leicester area of England. My favourite book is The Mezzanine by Nicholson Baker. I holiday in the unfashionable end of south Norfolk coast and recommend Curry Fever in Leicester. I have an MA in Public Order. I first posted a question to ILX in December 2001 but then kept quiet for four years. I still don't know how to do italics or bold. Ned Trifle is an homage to Hal Hartley and my love of food.

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Friday, 10 February 2006 19:19 (eighteen years ago) link

Actually that makes two Neds on here with MAs. So how come they keep saying we're uneducated? *flees wrath of Scottish posters*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 10 February 2006 19:20 (eighteen years ago) link

Ned Trifle is an homage to Hal Hartley and my love of food.

No offense, but i was sort of hoping you were Hal Hartley. And...I just learned how to do the italics thing, thanks to BakedBeanTeeth.

kwhitehead (stephen schmidt), Friday, 10 February 2006 19:25 (eighteen years ago) link

Can't I have an homage to myself? - no-one else is...

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Friday, 10 February 2006 20:00 (eighteen years ago) link

I've never introduced myself. Ben lurking for about four years; the thread on Sleater-Kinney's The Woods finally got me off my non-posting ass. Somehow it always comes up in my posts that I'm married to a music critic -- that's how I ended up here. I'm a 29-year-old grad student in art history. This minute, listening to Serena Maneesh, and enjoying it even though I'm not usually into that much distortion. Also, I seem to be a thread killa -- typically after I post, no one comes back.

belle haleine, Friday, 10 February 2006 20:14 (eighteen years ago) link

Time to break that trend, then! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 10 February 2006 20:24 (eighteen years ago) link

Man am I late! Anywho... I'm Robert. Although I'd love to list some examples of my favorite bands/groups, everytime I do, I kick myself for leaving out groups who I really like but just haven't listened to in a while. So I'll just say that my taste in music spans from the 1960's all the way till the early to mid 90's. Yeah, I don't mean to sound like a jerk but, typically I just hate most new groups that I hear/see. My listening adventure is going in a backward direction anyway. But to give you all an example of my musical tastes I'll tell you what I'm currently listening to. PiL's "Second Edition", Swans "Filth/Body to Body Job to Job", No Trend "Too Many Humans", lots of Husker Du, Pixies, Big Black, a little of this a little of that. And I absoluely LOVE that Scratch Acid "The Greatest Gift" cd!
Well besides the music thing.
I'll be 22 next month and am in no hurry to get there.
I've been playing the guitar since I was 13, which my mom actually taught me (and the only reason I'm not embarassed about it is cuz A) John Lennon's mother taught HIM. and B) My mom is brilliant and had the patience to sit through my favorite songs at the time, figure them out and then teach them to me.
Ummmm other than that. I'm currently studying Japanese and Art.
and......
nice to meet you!
