highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Monday, 6 October 2008 01:42 (fifteen years ago) link

lol well tbh i generally get pequena for lunch when i'm at work :)

Surmounter, Monday, 6 October 2008 01:43 (fifteen years ago) link

g00blar - i think the teresa's are connected, or were, and the one on 1st ave closed a little while ago.

lauren, Monday, 6 October 2008 02:05 (fifteen years ago) link

i ate at paul's today. the number of bad reviews of paul's on yelp really threw me. i love paul's. today i had the 2nd avenue burger, with cheese, ham, grilled tomato and grilled onions.
always get the "cajun" fries.

ian, Monday, 6 October 2008 02:07 (fifteen years ago) link

just the idea of cajun fries is too much for me to handle

Surmounter, Monday, 6 October 2008 02:08 (fifteen years ago) link

it's nothing special. just like.. fries with spices on them. they're just better than the steak fries, which are kind of bland and mushy usually.

ian, Monday, 6 October 2008 02:15 (fifteen years ago) link

you know, cajun anything and i'm there.

Surmounter, Monday, 6 October 2008 02:17 (fifteen years ago) link

cajun poodle.

ian, Monday, 6 October 2008 02:17 (fifteen years ago) link

can someone tell me where to get a blackened swordfish pronto?

Surmounter, Monday, 6 October 2008 02:17 (fifteen years ago) link

lol

Surmounter, Monday, 6 October 2008 02:17 (fifteen years ago) link

i kind of don't want to go to this teresa's place because of the horrible misspelling. i know this is irrational.

i had a burger at paul's once. it was nothing spectacular.

surm, i don't know about blackened but i do know a recipe for this great cream sauce with riesling and capers that will make you melt.

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Monday, 6 October 2008 02:19 (fifteen years ago) link

ok that sounds weird.

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Monday, 6 October 2008 02:19 (fifteen years ago) link

sounds grrrr8 to me. i would love that recipe.

Surmounter, Monday, 6 October 2008 02:20 (fifteen years ago) link

haha now i have to find it...

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Monday, 6 October 2008 02:25 (fifteen years ago) link

loll well take your time. ugh sounds so good tho.

Surmounter, Monday, 6 October 2008 02:25 (fifteen years ago) link

pinche's fish tacos are really good but the secret weapon is the carnitas!! so delicious, whatever the hell they braise the pork in is magical.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Monday, 6 October 2008 02:29 (fifteen years ago) link

ok i have to go to this place soon.

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Monday, 6 October 2008 02:30 (fifteen years ago) link

i wish time out's offices would move back to soho instead of the wasteland they currently occupy by the javitz center so i could eat delicious tacos on a more regular basis.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Monday, 6 October 2008 02:32 (fifteen years ago) link

i have no lunch options. there is a caf in my building, but it is the size of my bedroom so not very many options. i will turn into a salad soon. maybe that is a good thing, though.

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Monday, 6 October 2008 02:34 (fifteen years ago) link

Anthos - not cheap, but good

NYT wrote about Pinche's a week ago so it's kinda over now, amirite?

gabbneb, Monday, 6 October 2008 03:19 (fifteen years ago) link

when gabb says something is over, its way over

i have two restaurant questions--

1) what fancy restaurant should i go try to snag a bar seat at w/ my girlfriend for my birthday on wednesday

2) good lunch places around city hall/wtc... go

max, Monday, 6 October 2008 03:22 (fifteen years ago) link

http://www.cornershopcafe.com/flash.html

^^ this is where i got my mac n cheese. also had a delicious mexican-style corn on the cob. not too $$$ or tourist-y for being where it is either.

max, Monday, 6 October 2008 03:24 (fifteen years ago) link

also 3) recommendations for vietnamese

max, Monday, 6 October 2008 03:25 (fifteen years ago) link

my roomie, per his foodblog, enjoyed la superior!

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Monday, 6 October 2008 03:53 (fifteen years ago) link

i need lunch around lincoln center. i think that is a lost cause, though.

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Monday, 6 October 2008 03:53 (fifteen years ago) link

midtown is generally a lost cause

Everything is Highlighted (Hurting 2), Monday, 6 October 2008 03:59 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah. that area is not even really midtown though. i mean, sort of. but really more upper west side-y. it's kind of horrible. just overpriced sit down places or really crap delis.

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Monday, 6 October 2008 03:59 (fifteen years ago) link

sometimes i walk down to col. circle for whole foods.

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Monday, 6 October 2008 04:00 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah i used to just do deli sammiches around there. there's a grays papaya nearish!

Surmounter, Monday, 6 October 2008 04:00 (fifteen years ago) link

i found a couple of good delis wth those salad bar things

Surmounter, Monday, 6 October 2008 04:00 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, I was gonna say the Whole Foods is the only place I tend to get lunch in that general vicinity. Best deal around there.

Everything is Highlighted (Hurting 2), Monday, 6 October 2008 04:03 (fifteen years ago) link

back when i was like not healthy i would get mcdondalds a lot :/

Surmounter, Monday, 6 October 2008 04:04 (fifteen years ago) link

donalds. eww. although i need to reexplore their fries cuz they're cheap plentiful and wonderful

Surmounter, Monday, 6 October 2008 04:07 (fifteen years ago) link

1) what fancy restaurant should i go try to snag a bar seat at w/ my girlfriend for my birthday on wednesday

maybe dressler? gotham bar & grill?

2) good lunch places around city hall/wtc... go

this is my favorite but it's gotten kind of expensive, they keep raising prices
http://www.alfanoose.com/

if anyone knows good CHEAP places down there I'd like to know

used to go to this one mexican food cart all the time until one time my burrito contained a piece of the cart :/

dmr, Monday, 6 October 2008 04:26 (fifteen years ago) link

i go to that balducci's a lot. it is v v small. i get salads. occasionally a sandwich. it's not very exciting.

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Monday, 6 October 2008 04:28 (fifteen years ago) link

OMG yes max go to dressler. bar A++++

Surmounter, Monday, 6 October 2008 04:31 (fifteen years ago) link

donna rouge, Monday, 6 October 2008 04:56 (fifteen years ago) link

donna rouge, Monday, 6 October 2008 04:59 (fifteen years ago) link

2) good lunch places around city hall/wtc... go

Pakistan Tea House on Church and Reade (v. v. good Pakistani lunch place; cheap as anything, too)

Korean fried chicken at Bonbon on Chambers and Church.

Doghouse O RLY (G00blar), Monday, 6 October 2008 10:16 (fifteen years ago) link

maybe i'll check out dressler... How do you guys get to w'burg? Do you just take the g? Does it ever actually run or is it just a cruel joke? I feel like I spend hours of my life in hoyt schermerhorn.

max, Monday, 6 October 2008 12:05 (fifteen years ago) link

G is usually fine on weekdays ... weekends it can be dicey

where are you coming from? from prospect heights I usually take the Q into manhattan and grab the L

dmr, Monday, 6 October 2008 12:46 (fifteen years ago) link

dressler is s wburg, though - any way you can get the j?

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Monday, 6 October 2008 13:00 (fifteen years ago) link

I've taken the G a few times and it's worked out fine. Hopstop says to take the 4/5 to the L at Union Square, but there's something about having to go to Manhattan to get to Brooklyn that's psychologically frustrating.

Everything is Highlighted (Hurting 2), Monday, 6 October 2008 13:56 (fifteen years ago) link

i take the G a lot and it's totally fine. late night weekends are crappy but whatever. and yes going to manhattan to get to brooklyn is the worst!

Surmounter, Monday, 6 October 2008 13:58 (fifteen years ago) link

but there's something about having to go to Manhattan to get to Brooklyn that's psychologically frustrating.

They're called people who live in manhattan and tourists.

mizzell, Monday, 6 October 2008 14:02 (fifteen years ago) link

I love the G train, but it won't get it you that close to dressler.

mizzell, Monday, 6 October 2008 14:03 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah fuck that. My experience with the G is that it's as good as any other train! The cumulative hours spent over the last decade waiting for the F or the NR have perhaps jaded me, the only train I feel good about catching these days is the 123, for frequency.
