how do i shot moon? (Noodle Vague), Monday, 14 September 2020 11:12 (three years ago) link

great band, idiot singer. Its quite common.

"not a conspiracy theorist"

You're not a conspiracy theorist, you've joined an ever growing group of people that believe in researching and thinking for yourself. Covid is about control and compliance and mandating the vaccine that will use nano technology for mass surveillance. The Great Reset they call it

Idiot bassist too

Mani strode on stage and dedicated the first song to Serbian warlord Arkan, who was, apparently, “rubbed out by the CIA and MI5”.

they were worthless shitty no-marks back then that inexplicably got lucky and nothing has changed. But lol at "lame stream media"!

calzino, Monday, 14 September 2020 13:34 (three years ago) link

I never got the Sex Pistols references with this band until I heard Garage Flower and it all made sense

yada yada IMPLEMENTING MASS SURVEILLANCE!!!!!

. . .says the man through his piece of technology he willingly holds in his hand that has a microphone, two cameras, a network connection, and countless bytes of personal data contained in it.

but yeah, it's "the vaccine" that's going spy on you.

Just read Simon Spence's excellent book on the band... Wilson had them on OSM only because someone else had dropped out.

hug, I had no idea they had their own dancing dummy.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 7 November 2021 17:29 (two years ago) link

yeah, had to share, the live drumming, particularly the outro make it a fresh as a daisy take on the song, fierce and dreamy at the same time. I wish I saw them starting out

Reni is so great. I love the story about how Pete Townshend tried to hire him after his first Stone Roses gig.

The new album (Liam and John) has some great moments. The last two songs are wonderful. I suppose (some of) these are what would have been the Roses album? Who knows, I just love hearing RRRRAAAAAAYYYYNNNNBBBBAAAOOOWWWWWW

Personal history may bias my opinion of the Stone Roses.

Tapes...yes tapes...of the debut album, as well as Disintegration and a ridiculously overpriced After The Gold Rush (which I bought in a gas station in Spain), made a bus tour of Europe in 1989 tolerable from a musical point of view.

Still a 4 1/2 star album for me.

ps. Neither Fool's Gold nor Elephant Stone were part of that original release. A compilation of these songs, as well other b-sides from that era make Second Coming seem like a bad joke.

BriefCandles, Saturday, 2 March 2024 22:43 (one month ago) link

Tbh this is a dud. Half of it's shit and the other half I perhaps unfairly blame for a lot of stuff I hate about the UK indie scene and even the good stuff is so overplayed I don't really need to hear it again

itt I tell the Stone Roses to fuck off in 2024. Finger on the pulse mw

Colonel Poo, Saturday, 2 March 2024 23:46 (one month ago) link

My apologies Colon Poo.

You have much better taste in music than I do...

BriefCandles, Sunday, 3 March 2024 00:23 (one month ago) link

haha I definitely don't

Colonel Poo, Sunday, 3 March 2024 01:06 (one month ago) link

I first heard this album in high school about 1999 and man I was completely totally 100% obsessed. “OMG! Best album ever!”, etc. As an American I missed all the cultural baggage associated with it and all the shitty music it influenced. I think that helped a bit. And of course the version I bought had “Elephant Stone” and “Fools Gold” tacked on, so I got more of a greatest hits album. Now it’s 25 years later and I am listening to it now and it still sounds pretty goddamn perfect. John Squire is the star of the show: the chiming arpeggiated riffs just keep coming at you over and over again and yet the guitar never overpowers the songs - easily one of the best rock guitarists I’ve heard. Shame that he obviously used up his entire bag of tricks on this one album. Didn’t they spend like eight years in between the time they formed and the time they released the album? Perfectionist bastards.

Mr. Snrub, Monday, 4 March 2024 16:43 (one month ago) link

Agree that the album still sounds good and I also think that Fool's Gold/Something's Burning were a great next step forward which was totally forgotten by the time of the disastrous second album. I'm still surprised that Oasis are taken seriously as something amazing as opposed to this. Marr's autobiography (he is a huge hometown booster) totally ignores them (and the Mondays too I think).

three of the doctor's valuable bats are now dead (broom air), Monday, 4 March 2024 16:55 (one month ago) link

Yes it’s still a fucking great album and anyone who doesn’t like “fools gold” is not to be trusted

brimstead, Monday, 4 March 2024 17:17 (one month ago) link

the second coming is quite underrated. Take out 2 of the acoustic tracks in the middle and it'd be great.

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Monday, 4 March 2024 18:33 (one month ago) link

Second Coming had great b-sides as well, particularly the ones that were recorded after the album was completed. Would love a deluxe reissue

beamish13, Monday, 4 March 2024 21:02 (one month ago) link

thread that makes me realise I shouldn't be trusted!
