That "Loved One" poster is one of the least offensive posters on this thread.

Improper Channels, 1981

A White, White Gay (cryptosicko), Tuesday, 8 September 2020 17:54 (three years ago) link

We've had that one, because I remember posting the very incongruous to that artwork plot summary from IMDB:

Improper Channels (1981)

A father brings a young child to an emergency room to get treatment for a minor injury occurring in an innocent accident, but he gets accused of child abuse. Child welfare agencies commit grossly unfair over-reactions to remove the child forcibly from the Father (Arkin), who must brave the arcane system to reclaim his daughter.

especially for AIP! presumably the top-billed ex-Bond players all do a single day's work in one room each, like modern DTV Bruce Willis and Steven Seagal

According to imdb, it was all shot in Spain, so perhaps the producers (presumably not AIP, as this reeks of a pickup) gave out a lot of free vacations?

Jaguar was an attempt to turn Joe Lewis into the next Chuck Norris. Lewis had a stronger background as a karate tournament fighter and kickboxer, but it turned out he wasn't as good an actor as Chuck.

Tyne Daly really made her mark as the other half of a police partnership, didn't she.

The depiction of Byron Stewart at center bears essentially no resemblance to him, and appears to be just a racist caricature. I suspect someone told the artist about his subplot - Arkin is a basketball coach who adopts a 6'8" Black orphaned teen to win games - and went "got it, black guy!" Ugh.

looks like Will Elder

"Hmm, I wonder what o_O subplot the black character is involved in"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_Sale_(film)

The low self-esteemed Russell wants to expand the store and marry his girlfriend, while Ezra needs money to adopt an orphaned 6'8" African-American teenage boy named Booker T (Byron Stewart). Ezra needs Booker T. to play on the high-school basketball team he coaches because he has won a total of two games in seven years as a coach and is in danger of losing his job.

Mad Monster Party co-written by Harvey Kurtzman to nicely close the circle.

BTW, excellent spot on the Kurtzman involvement in that Fire Sale poster, stevie.

Davis too apparently

"mad monster party" apparently trying to pre-empt MAD magazine's spoof by using their exact typeface/bolding.

Mad Monster Party? wasn't official MAD but had ties - Harvey Kurtzman co-wrote the script and Jack Davis did character design.

Thanks for the Friedman link, visiting - the last few TV Guide pieces look very much like the "WEHK"-signed mid-'80s stuff that stevie was remembering

I guess Kurtzman did the initial layout design and then WE painted it - predates the WEHK signed stuff by a few years, maybe they only used that for Mad?

Ward Fowler, Wednesday, 16 September 2020 08:30 (three years ago) link

Nuts! may have also had some WEHK-signed stuff, the covers had the same sort of look iirc
