This is maybe the most perplexing internet beef ever.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 21:55 (sixteen years ago) link

I'd change to go biking with laurel so my nice clothes wouldn't get ruined!

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 21:56 (sixteen years ago) link

I'd change so my tie would match her cute polka dot blouse.

kenan, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 21:57 (sixteen years ago) link

I'd change into my wincklepoincers for her

(no seriously, i have those mod boots, what did you call them? can't remember)

sanskrit, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 21:59 (sixteen years ago) link

Change comes from the Federal Mint, but two days' worth of internet beef is inside all of us.

XP: hi guys! Dem are beatle boots, boo, or winklepickers.

nick got fired! whoa

also:
when people don't like me, I invest a lot of energy into trying to figure out why they don't like me, and how I could change, instead of just saying "Fuck 'em, they're not worth it."

re: things like this i often wonder about how much is true self-reflection and how much is just self-involvement

rrrobyn, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 04:08 (sixteen years ago) link

i mean this in a general way
b/c true self-reflection/consciousness takes effort/struggle/isn't easy when living in this crazy world, whereas self-involvement is kinda built in to the ego drive and in that is deceptive

anyway ohman this thread. it is v hot here btw and maybe it is hot there as well and causing such issues.

re: things like this i often wonder about how much is true self-reflection and how much is just self-involvement

This is a very good point, and I think I was being a little disingenuous when I said I ponder "how I could change." I should have said when people direct cheap insults or unfair criticisms at me, I invest a lot of energy in explaining, incessantly, why what they said was untrue or unfair, in the hopes of either exonerating myself in their eyes or, at the very least, ascertaining their motivations, since a lot of times I'm just plain confused by their ire. Kenan correctly reads this as stubbornness, but it's hard for me to take that kind of thing lying down: if I keep talking and trying to explain myself, there's the possibility that things can be smoothed over. And even if it's not, I can at least get the other person to understand me better, because it drives me crazy that they don't. (This is probably self-involvement, yes.)

I do this by giving a mental Pitchfork rating to each album, grabbing all of those that get 9.9 or 10.0, and then ordering them.

1) Mansun - Six 2) Cardiacs - Guns 3) Cardiacs - Sing To God 4) Yes - Relayer 5) Talk Talk - Spirit Of Eden 6) Blur - 13 7) SFA - Rings Around The World 8) Hood - Rustic Houses Forlorn Valleys 9) Oceansize - Effloresce 10) Duran Duran - Rio

I don't date dog people. I honestly don't. If you have a dog, you're out. It's not like some rule I wrote down, I just kind of naturally lose interest, like you just told me you have a 6-year-old boy.
