This is impossible though. RR and Stalag among the earliest I noticed/engaged with as riddims; also nice that they span different eras. I have extremely warm memories of the summer a friend of mine got super deep into Sleng Teng and basically only listened to versions of it for months. Tempted by Golden Hen (aka Diseases and Mad Mad, iirc) as I always love when that crops up, and between Yellowman, Tenor Saw, and Michigan & Smiley you have three mega classics...might have talked myself into that one.

There are like millions of versions of Punanny, so I'm not surprised to see that first.

yes, but i'm not that old.

i could easily pick from about half a dozen of these but with regard to Sleng Teng i also basically only listened to versions of it for months.

i guess Dembow is more important for it going on to have such a fundamental impact on Reggaeton rather than it being a riddim that there are tons of versions that people love.

On the other hand, the selection criteria are fairly opaque to me. I basically disqualified Real Rock because it seemed like the list was trying to showcase quintessentially dancehall riddims, and RR is such a classic reggae riddim it didn't make sense to me to include it and not Satta Massagana, Drum Story, etc. But Bam Bam, Answer, and Stalag all precede the dancehall era too so idk...
