spotify is promoting a 'triller' playlist which appears to be songs that feature heavily on..... this app, called 'triller', which is a tiktok clone

confused because i expected the playlist to have something to do with southern rap, where the word 'trill' comes from i.e. trill recognize trill etc

further confused because this app appears to literally be a tiktok clone - why do we need two of the same thing?? why are celebrities on trill?? str8 up $$$ for promo i guess?

one of my saddest pastimes is following a tiktoker's career arc when one of their videos goes viral and it slowly dawns on them that the tiktok viewing public is only really interested in that one joke/concept/meme and has almost zero interest in the rest of their content. ex:

all these 30+-year-old professionals/hobbyists who realize they aren't cut out for the traditional influencer path and are just hoping that their viral success will boost their profiles within their little niches (farmtok? realestatetok?) — but it rarely plays out that way because they aren't reaching their target demographics, they're reaching dumbass laymen like me who are only in it for 60 seconds of mildly amusing content and maybe a brief follow-up on the original viral tiktok. nothing's more disappointing for an internet content creator than the realization that they've become the curator of a dead meme, but it's hard to keep yourself from beating the dead horse when you still have a slim hope of making it big

(but it's tough to feel any pity for douchebags/scammers like that #househacking guy Tracer linked to)
