Regular ILX posters acting like their time is too precious is a good one

sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Thursday, 13 August 2020 00:39 (three years ago) link

You can just say you hate something without pretending you’re too good for it

sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Thursday, 13 August 2020 00:39 (three years ago) link

I can ILX at work, I can't watch TV at work.

Tsar Bombadil (James Morrison), Thursday, 13 August 2020 00:40 (three years ago) link

"pretending"? It's OK to not like bad stuff.

Tsar Bombadil (James Morrison), Thursday, 13 August 2020 00:41 (three years ago) link

Tombot go and watch every episode of A Country Practice, then James and I will watch The Mandalorian and blog our reactions itt

Steppin' RZA (sic), Thursday, 13 August 2020 00:55 (three years ago) link

I was just taking issue with how your post came across, like “life’s too short for this plebeian claptrap.” Of course it’s fine to dislike stuff.

sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Thursday, 13 August 2020 00:56 (three years ago) link

1,058 episodes ... from 18 November 1981 to 22 November 1993

this doesn’t strike me as a fair deal

sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Thursday, 13 August 2020 00:57 (three years ago) link

Yeah, how dare you sully ILX's fine reputation with snobbishness!

xp

Yeah!

Quoting only due to my dn.

Ben Mendelsohn's appeared in both ACP and a Star War. You'd think there'd be more.

Vernon Locke, Thursday, 13 August 2020 03:02 (three years ago) link

If I watch a comparable number of hours of A Country Practice would it count? You can pick the season, assuming I can access the episodes online. I’ll write my own summaries to prove I did it.

solo scampito (mh), Friday, 14 August 2020 00:22 (three years ago) link

looks like there's only 532 episodes currently online

Season 3 was all written by the creator though, so that seems like the best comparison to a season of Mandalorian

First look preview story, usual thing:

https://ew.com/tv/mandalorian-season-2-first-look/

Also, as has been noted, the opening paragraphs confirm Mr. Favreau is apparently not aware of torrents.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 8 September 2020 17:58 (three years ago) link

Is he aware that his head is the size of a Death Star?

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 8 September 2020 18:01 (three years ago) link

Social media probably more likely accounts for the mural in France more than torrents, no?

“Pizza House!” (morrisp), Tuesday, 8 September 2020 18:23 (three years ago) link

Doubtless but I refuse to believe people weren't finding all sorts of ways to watch the series then.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 8 September 2020 18:35 (three years ago) link

So Fring gets to drive an AT-AT this time?

It's mentioned offhandedly in the EW article but, for those in the know, Ahsoka Tano (portrayed by Rosario Dawson) will be making her live-action debut this season.

Don't be such an idot. (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 15 September 2020 14:27 (three years ago) link

she's visible in that trailer, briefly.

pretty sure that tagline is a nod to 80s babies

stoked

sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Tuesday, 15 September 2020 15:52 (three years ago) link

Really smart way to make it feel 'bigger' without changing much about it from what I can tell.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 16:09 (three years ago) link

she's visible in that trailer, briefly.

if you're talking about the hooded figure that's WWE wrestler sasha banks, not rosario

it definitely sucks that Carano is a conservative dipshit on twitter

ugh. that's a disappointment, i really liked her turn in Haywire.

one month passes...

Man this is almost sneaking up on me! Second season debut episode goes live tomorrow.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 29 October 2020 20:20 (three years ago) link

Feels like a weird week to launch a new season of a major show, but I guess you can't stop... The Mandalorian!

Video Drama (morrisp), Thursday, 29 October 2020 20:34 (three years ago) link

Man, anything that can pull me out of election anxiety for even 30 minutes this weekend will be much appreciated, so I'm glad for the return.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 29 October 2020 20:35 (three years ago) link

Are they doing this weekly again?

groovypanda, Thursday, 29 October 2020 20:46 (three years ago) link

Yep.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 29 October 2020 20:47 (three years ago) link

Tidy, thanks

groovypanda, Thursday, 29 October 2020 20:48 (three years ago) link

I've really grown to appreciate this show being weekly, since we watch with our 9 year-old and it's become a Friday night Mandalorian and pizza tradition already.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 29 October 2020 20:56 (three years ago) link

yah i dont really care about the show much but its been fun getting into it with the kids.

Spottie, Thursday, 29 October 2020 21:03 (three years ago) link

I mean, our son even got so into the making of series that he insisted we had to continue our pizza tradition when those episodes were released too.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 29 October 2020 21:05 (three years ago) link

omg stunt casting

mh, Friday, 30 October 2020 14:02 (three years ago) link

that was... Good? a hokey nothing-much of a plot (ie a regular mandalorian plot) with really fantastic direction - felt there was a real sense of cosmic dread around the lair at the end and I found myself unusually engaged with the final shitfight

production quality felt a little higher

my kids commented that baby yoda didn't have anything to do but understood that he had to be onscreen providing regular cuteness regardless

umsworth (emsworth), Friday, 30 October 2020 18:52 (three years ago) link

With a little distance, I'm happy to announce my conclusion that this show is bad* and it's weird that so many people think it's not bad

*Taika-related jokes aside

change display name (Jordan), Friday, 30 October 2020 19:23 (three years ago) link

Amy Sedaris-as-Linda Lavin and other tone deaf “Special Guest Star” cameos drag this thing down but overall, no, it’s actually pretty fun and *good* when its on.

SQUIRREL MEAT!! (Capitaine Jay Vee), Friday, 30 October 2020 19:31 (three years ago) link

I enjoyed the stunt casting as any fan of REDACTED would do, and it continues the western theme of the show, which is part of the draw.

I especially liked the discussion about how something that’s not a sarlacc ends up living in a sarlacc pit.

Agreed that the child’s repeated closeups felt a little silly when he had nothing to do with the plot.

sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Saturday, 31 October 2020 02:18 (three years ago) link

we have spoiler tags now btw

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Saturday, 31 October 2020 02:22 (three years ago) link

i couldn't stop laughing at our friend the big guest star's belt

Clay, Saturday, 31 October 2020 02:44 (three years ago) link

Who was Leguizamo, the one eyed dude in the beginning.

for what it's worth, I don't like this show nearly as much as most people here, though good action scenes go a long way and I thought this episode was pretty good. And of course I'm down for stunt casting if the actor is good and appropriate for the role and is Seth Bullock

I thought Herzog was underutilized in the first season. He should be the big baddie, not Esposito.

dan selzer, Saturday, 31 October 2020 03:47 (three years ago) link

beginning?

dan selzer, Saturday, 31 October 2020 03:47 (three years ago) link

Re opening segment — yes, that was him.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 31 October 2020 05:40 (three years ago) link

And this was very good fun. I appreciate the detail of the second Death Star blowing up and then immediately everything becomes awful.
