thanks for saving us from endless my little pony! our 4 year old was literally rofling at the yoga ball on the loo, making us rewind and watch it again and again. still preferable to my little pony.

I LOVE THIS SHOW

I have only seen two, but it makes the grand-daughters (4 and 6) do these serious belly laughs

(the ones I saw were "The Magic Xylophone" and the one where they operate on the dad because there is a cat in his stomach. I was dying w/laughter)

I ask the question all Bluey-watching parents have asked themselves at some point: is Bandit based on you? “Well, on an extremely, extremely good day, I would say I get close to Bandit,” Brumm defers. “But no.”

punchline of that episode is dad playing hedgehogs with the kids instead of putting them to bed, so no worries

My God my kids love this show so much. It’s great.

I watched 15 minutes of OP’s youtube. This show seems like it could teach me how to be a dad if I ever forget when the time comes.

The parents on this show are so patient I can feel my own kids eyeing my wife and me and thinking "And here I am stuck with these assholes..."

VG, where have you been?

Tsar Bombadil (James Morrison), Thursday, 10 March 2022 10:25 (two years ago) link

it's the parents going along with things that i like. sitting on the lawn selling toilet roll drainpipes to passers-by, for instance, isn't something he had to do.

koogs, Thursday, 10 March 2022 10:29 (two years ago) link

I'm gonna urge everyone who clicks on this thread to at least watch *that* episode - my daughter wanted to watch it again this morning and it was even better than I remembered. the constant parallels between Bingo's dream and the mundane, daily nighttime routine were really something. when she sleepwalks she's exploring in space but when her mom grabs her in her dream she's experiencing that crazy scene at the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey. and using "Jupiter" by Holst as the soundtrack? brilliant. the final scene where she looks back at the broken planet and says "I have to go, I'm a big girl now" is a real tearjerker...but this time I noticed it parallels what happens when Bingo drops Floppy, because my daughter asked me "why did the bunny leave her?" and of course she's going to join all the other bunnies, idk how I didn't notice this at first but that's a pretty obvious metaphor as well.

also worth mentioning how great the animation is too. it's so tightly storyboarded. especially since it's just like one episode out of a hundred.

out of curiosity I looked it up on IMDB and it has a perfect 10.0 rating, making it one of the greatest television episodes of all time? I rarely look things up there but it was nice to see that this is not just me losing my mind over a kids show

frogbs, Thursday, 10 March 2022 15:15 (two years ago) link

ha i loved that episode. when it finished my son looked at me and said "that one was boring"

Heez, Thursday, 10 March 2022 15:33 (two years ago) link

Lol my elder one loves it - my girls are six and two & three quarters and I swear they sound just like Bluey and Bingo sometimes. It is incredibly good and it makes me cry too; The Flat Pack episode is, story wise, nearly as conceptually ambitious but not as trippy or quite as moving - maybe 9.8/10.

ledge, Thursday, 10 March 2022 15:36 (two years ago) link

ending of the Barky Boats one was also very good - the older kids having feelings for each other but not knowing how to express it, then the little kids not understanding why the older kids aren't so interested in playing with them. the scene where they try to hold back the water was very moving - reminds me of last summer when my 6 year old son was on his bike while I walked around the block, then he suddenly picked up speed and I was trying to run alongside but he was going too fast. and then he got so far ahead where he couldn't hear me when I yelled at him to slow down and I realized "well he's off now, soon he'll be out of sight and I'll have to trust that he goes back home"...THAT is the feeling this show nails down so well

The latest episode…hoo boy.

Sam Weller, Monday, 15 April 2024 09:40 (four days ago) link

Can't wait.

We went to see the stage show a little while ago. It was disappointing. The voices were all prerecorded by the actual cast, so it sounded er 'accurate' but didn't really feel like a live performance. The story involved Bandit trying to get his phone off Bluey which didn't really fit in with the normal show ethos, and it tried to shoehorn in all these 'greatest hits' sort of moments - chattermax, grannies, etc.

ledge, Monday, 15 April 2024 10:29 (four days ago) link

I thought The Sign was too long. But obviously still well worth watching.

One of my favourite episodes is the one where the grannies help out with a yard sale. "Oh no, ma coins!" is one of my all-time favourite lines.

trishyb, Monday, 15 April 2024 11:06 (four days ago) link

the bbc have snuck out 12 episodes i haven't seen (series3). it's a pain to record them due to many repeats and season-pass mess (and cbbc / cbbchd doubling the listings. 76 showings it says in the next week)
