surprising -- my understanding is that the service-time cutoff is literally tonight, i.e. peterson will earn a year of time by pitching today and toronto's nate pearson will *not* earn a year of time after debuting tomorrow

mookieproof, Tuesday, 28 July 2020 17:49 (three years ago) link

The Mets will allow Jacob deGrom to throw 80-100 pitches tonight, per Luis Rojas. He should be good for about six innings.

Whoops.

Tōne Locatelli Romano (PBKR), Wednesday, 29 July 2020 23:45 (three years ago) link

wait are you a flyers *and* mets fan?

damn

mookieproof, Wednesday, 29 July 2020 23:59 (three years ago) link

Ha, yeah, I'm a mutt. Flyers/Sixers/Mets. I watched every out of the 1986 WS, but wasn't really a big baseball fan until I moved to NY in 2001 and I wasn't going to root for the fucking Yankees.

Tōne Locatelli Romano (PBKR), Thursday, 30 July 2020 00:15 (three years ago) link

Aren't you a Pens and Mets fan or am I mistaken?

Tōne Locatelli Romano (PBKR), Thursday, 30 July 2020 00:16 (three years ago) link

definitely pens fan; being a pirates fan is pointless, but

i like the mets and yeah obviously one can't move to new york and root for the yankees. i don't like the mets well enough to get cable just for SNY, though, so i almost never actually see them

at least you haven't been infected by the knicks (nor have i)

mookieproof, Thursday, 30 July 2020 00:37 (three years ago) link

I had/have family in NYC and spent a few weeks every summer when I was a kid, so I always had a connection.

To really blow your mind, I'm also an AZ Cardinals fan.

brooklyn suicide cult (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 1 August 2020 02:28 (three years ago) link

This team looks identical to last year with maybe a better lineup and worse starting pitching.

Tōne Locatelli Romano (PBKR), Saturday, 1 August 2020 02:44 (three years ago) link

well if they have last year's winning pct it'll take some doing.

The New York Mets have not been able to contact Yoenis Cespedes, who did not report to Truist Park for Sunday's game against the Atlanta Braves, according to general manager Brodie Van Wagenen.

"He did not reach out to management with any explanation for his absence," Van Wagenen said in a statement. "Our attempts to contact him have been unsuccessful."

McNeil carted off after running into wall
so i assume he is gone for the year

brooklyn suicide cult (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 13 August 2020 17:43 (three years ago) link

Sources: Jeff McNeil’s knee X-ray is negative, so the hope is it’s just a bad bruise. Will go for MRI to confirm though. McNeil, the heart of the team, made a run-saving catch while diving into the wall in 1st inning.

letting deGrom start the 6th with a 13-run lead = WORLDFUCKING DUMB

brooklyn suicide cult (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 12 September 2020 01:04 (three years ago) link

Indeed. Unrelated, but I love seeing guys get a save by closing out a game with a 17 run lead. And wasn't there a save awarded in Atlanta's 29-run game too?

NoTimeBeforeTime, Saturday, 12 September 2020 12:01 (three years ago) link

saves have to be a 3 run lead or less, i think

Karl Malone, Saturday, 12 September 2020 19:09 (three years ago) link

oh wait, there are other ways to get a save:

A relief pitcher recording a save must preserve his team's lead while doing one of the following: Enter the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitch at least one inning. Enter the game with the tying run in the on-deck circle, at the plate or on the bases. Pitch at least three innings.

always forget about the "pitch at least 3 innings" version of the save

Karl Malone, Saturday, 12 September 2020 19:10 (three years ago) link

Mets announce agreement to sell club to Steve Cohen. According to Sportico, Cohen will own 95 percent of the team, with the Katz and Wilpon families retaining the other 5 percent. Next up for Cohen: Gaining the necessary approval from 23 of 30 owners.

Heard the #Mets sold for more than the $2.35B that has been reported. It is for between $2.4B and $2.45B. The previous record for a North American sports team was the $2.275B that the Panthers were sold for to another hedge fund billionaire, David Tepper.

— Joel Sherman (@Joelsherman1) September 14, 2020

mookieproof, Monday, 14 September 2020 21:33 (three years ago) link

difference between $2.35B and $2.45B, alone, is $100M.

that's enough to pay each mets minor leaguer $66,666.66 per year for five years (assuming they have 300 minor leaguers).
