so where are these Qanon dummies going to go now that they've all been banned and filtered out of Twitter? Will this shit finally die or are they on some other platform tying Twitter together with Trump wishing Maxwell 'well?

FUUUUUCK this guy. I hope a piano falls on him.

Scoop: James Comey to release new book in January

In a new book 10 days before the inauguration, former FBI Director James Comey will take aim at politicization of the Justice Department under President Trump, who fired him.

"Saving Justice: Truth, Transparency, and Trust," out Jan. 12, is a follow-up to Comey's No. 1 New York Times bestseller, "A Higher Loyalty." A press release from Comey’s publisher, Flatiron, says he'll also discuss his career prosecuting mobsters in New York. Comey famously compared Trump to a mob boss in his last book.

The state of play: Comey has kept a relatively low profile since his last book.

He has written occasional op-eds and hot tweets, but resisted numerous invitations to appear on TV.

Comey envisions the new book as an effort to remind Americans about the core principles of the justice system and how to rebuild them under what he hopes will be a new administration.

The publisher calls it "a clarion call for a return to non-partisan law enforcement centered on American values."

God bless you for finding a way to make some bank from this clusterfuck, James! It's almost as if you're part of his administration!

The UT-Tyler poll from a couple of weeks ago showed an even greater split between the presidential and Senate races: Biden +5 and Cornyn +13 (vs. Hegar, though she hadn't actually won the primary yet). In both that poll and the new Quinnipiac one, independents are deadlocked in the Senate race but break toward Biden by like +20.

So the federal law enforcement surge in Chicago, is this in response to the protests or to other violent crime in Chicago? If it's in response to existing violent crime, will these officers be doing any actual policing to curb violent crime or will they be tear gassing protesters? It's ok, I know these questions don't have any logical answer.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Wednesday, 22 July 2020 22:03 (three years ago) link

Protests and no. They’re just meat for Trump’s moron base that he’s cracking down on THOSE people.

DJI, Wednesday, 22 July 2020 22:14 (three years ago) link

No doubt an assortment of federal troops from a hodgepodge of agencies is well equipped and trained to deal effectively with gang violence. I'm looking forward to this utter clusterfuck.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Wednesday, 22 July 2020 22:55 (three years ago) link

As I understand it, Lightfoot has been very cautious about what kind of "help" she wants, while Pritzker has been at least as suspicious. Regardless, let's see where these feds pop up. It's a very big city and the violence is by and large limited to certain areas and neighborhoods. Given that Asshole always does the wrong thing, I wouldn't be shocked if these 150 fed folks were directed to protect Columbus statues (and bait protestors) rather than actually assist in suppressing gang violence.

The Washington Post reports:

Senate Republicans have cast aside one of President Trump’s key demands in their emerging coronavirus stimulus package, refusing to include a payroll tax cut in their opening offer to Democrats, which Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is aiming to unveil on Thursday.

Their proposal also would slash enhanced unemployment benefits for millions of workers — even as the Labor Department reported Thursday that weekly unemployment claims had risen for the first time in four months, to 1.4 million last week.

brooklyn suicide cult (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 23 July 2020 14:30 (three years ago) link

it continues to amaze me (i know) that he continued to push for those payroll tax cuts, both now and a few months ago in the first round, even though they only benefit people with jobs! for legislation seemingly intended to help unemployed people! lol! even to the point of calling up his pal Arthur Laffer to tell him and others what a great idea it was for the economy! seriously man, lol! fuck!

https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/23/us/portland-protests-mayor/index.html

Mayor Ted Wheeler was tear gassed in downtown Portland early Thursday morning, according to video and posts on Twitter from a New York Times journalist.
The video shows Wheeler, wearing goggles and a face mask amid a crowd of people, hold his nose and close his eyes in distress as a cloud of tear gas drifts by him.
"It stings. It's hard to breathe. I can tell you with 100% honesty I saw nothing that provoked this response," Wheeler said to the Times camera. "I'm not afraid but I am pissed off."
It's unknown at this time who is responsible for deploying the tear gas and there is nothing to indicate the mayor was targeted. Portland Police said they did not deploy any CS gas, a commonly used type of tear gas.
CNN has reached out to the mayor's office for additional comment.
The video appeared to come after Wheeler joined crowds to listen to protesters and answer their questions in response to violent clashes between demonstrators and federal forces, whose camouflage, troop-like uniforms and aggressive tactics have exacerbated the protests.
