I was really into Fear Emptiness Despair at the time, but I'm not really familiar enough with their work as a whole to confidently vote for it.

that one's aight. it has "Twist the Knife (Slowly)". that' the only song I remember
― Lady Antibody (Neanderthal), Saturday, 18 July 2020 15:03 (three years ago) link
I definitely won't be voting for Scum or FETO. I love both of them, but they're too obvious, and between the two, FETO's the only one I listen to often.
I think it'll be between Enemy, Time Waits for No Slave, The Code is Red, or Apex.

I have only heard literally one second of this band’s output but their album titles are definitely getting funnier.

write-in vote for peel sessions
― mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Saturday, 18 July 2020 17:17 (three years ago) link
which i know isn't the point of this poll but still
from enslavement to obliteration is definitely >>>>>>> scum

I didn't realise quite how far from them I'd fallen - just in terms of how many albums I've not heard a note of. Of the ones I have, probably Utopia Banished.
― Vanishing Point (Chinaski), Saturday, 18 July 2020 17:25 (three years ago) link
Lol i almost added Peel Sessions for you, Brad. Should have :(
― Lady Antibody (Neanderthal), Saturday, 18 July 2020 17:26 (three years ago) link
for a band with so many lineup changes their album titles are admirably consistent
― k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Saturday, 18 July 2020 18:09 (three years ago) link
they haven't really had that many in a while, other than Pintado departing and dying, and Mitch Harris being MIA for a bit.
most of them happened in their first three years of existence.
Apex Predator has a riff that sounds like the Inpector Gadget theme
― Lady Antibody (Neanderthal), Saturday, 18 July 2020 18:52 (three years ago) link
this might be Enemy or Apex for me. idk....Hererra's blast beats, and the production on them make everything sound thunderous. Barney's roar is getting blunted with age, but he still sounds massive.
Mitch Harris is a killer riff writer, hooky but savage.
really need to revisit Utilitarian, barely remember that one even though it was the first ND I bought!
― Lady Antibody (Neanderthal), Saturday, 18 July 2020 18:53 (three years ago) link
Utilitarian is really good. Amazing that it took until 2014 for John Zorn to make a guest appearance on one of their records.
I ranked all their albums for Stereogum back in 2015, and at the time, listening to them one after another day after day, Time Waits For No Slave wound up at #1. It's an incredible record - check it out if you haven't.

heh i re-read your rankings not long ago which prompted me to listen to it. I didn't love TWFNS on first listen, but on revisiting, it blew me away. idk what my issue was with it the first time

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

I haven't heard all of the mid-late 90s stuff but for me they've been on a roll since The Code Is Red
I'd still like to hear their pre-Hatred Surge tapes but they are impossible to find, not even leaked on P2P anywhere (Hatred Surge itself has been bootlegged) - of course that is pretty much a different band, most/all gone by the time Scum came out

new one has a lot of like, industrial, 80's goth, outside influences on it, Killing Joke too...just like "Logic Ravaged by Brute Force".
"Contagion" is fuckin' dope even though you might blink when you hear the first minute of it.

― origami condom (Neanderthal), Saturday, 19 September 2020 05:05 (three years ago) link
i haven't heard this half of the album yet
omg Fluxing of the Muscle YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS that tremolo riff at the near 2-minute mark
― origami condom (Neanderthal), Saturday, 19 September 2020 05:08 (three years ago) link
this is their most...melodic album in decades?
the dog i'm watching is mad i won't come to sleep cos I'm more interested in Napalm Death
"Amoral" is basically like Killing Joke
and it's dope
― origami condom (Neanderthal), Saturday, 19 September 2020 05:12 (three years ago) link
the new one is so great. just got my vinyl copy.
I have NO FUCKING idea why I used to say Time Waits for No Slave was my least favorite of the 21st century. this might be the most aggressive fucking thing they have put out. got a vinyl copy of it from Decibel as well, which came with a NAPALM DEATH BUMPER STICKER.

Barney's voice is definitely aging as evidenced by listening to how unhinged he sounds on TWFNS but I hope to death I could scream like he does when I'm his age.
Enemy of Music Business still hits it for me.
but the last album gets better and better each time.
wonder how much longer they got in them.

Seriously. I almost went to see them a couple of weeks ago, but *I* didn't have it in me!
