2016, only the DNC is hacked, emails leaked in July
2020, twitter accounts of only Dems and left leaning billionaires hacked in July

There goes a big chunk of my optimism about the polls. Doesn’t matter how much of a lead Biden gets if the cards are all getting stacked for, minimally, an election that Trump can throw doubt and chaos into, or worse.

The timing and targets of this hack are just way too fucking convenient to be any bitcoin scam.

Elon Musk is "left leaning"?

I’d say more than he is right leaning, maybe? Point being, I didn’t see any notable right wing or GOPers targeted in that hack and it’s not like there’s a dearth of them with a ton of followers on twitter.

Elon is absolutely a right winger

It was done in a way to specifically avoid pissing off Trump’s DOJ, that’s all. Pathetic hack tbf, sad that Twitter didn’t have a better playbook for dealing with it

1. his company is a shell for $$$ being moved from the campaign to various family members iiuc.

2. there is no way the trump campaign has a bunch of other people who are set up to do the shady but effective ad tech parscale did before he became campaign manager. i'd be surprised if they had anyone who knows how to use excel.

there's literally no reaching people who think "repealing an obscure 2006 bill that intentionally bankrupted the post office" was too heavy a lift for a party that had merely 57 Senate votes in 2009

I'm a bay leaf truther who believes they don't really add any noticeable flavor to anything.

Re: Parscale, I liked this passive aggressive dig in the WaPo:

It’s unclear what the shake-up of campaign staff will achieve given that Trump often acts on his instincts and has shown little interest in taking the steps political strategists say would help him win over undecided voters.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 16 July 2020 12:52 (three years ago) link

I’m still chortling at a recent discussion postulating that a collective sublimated shame among the non-ride-or-die GOP has handicapped that party’s campaign vitality.

Their claim to fame is that they show no shame, so I don’t think that’s it. grab the jersey keep swinging basically.

Jacksonville’s NBC News affiliate reports:

The convention to nominate President Donald Trump as the Republican candidate for president is going to happen in Jacksonville, but be much smaller than originally planned.

Rather than the 15,000 people originally scheduled to attend the event in Jacksonville next month, the communications director of the Republican National Convention announced Thursday that only about 2,500 people — mostly the regular delegates — will attend the first three days of the event, Aug. 24-26.

On the final night, Thursday, Aug. 27, delegates and alternates can attend with one guest as Trump delivers his acceptance speech.

morbius, that Pareene tweet is in response to what?

akm, Thursday, 16 July 2020 16:05 (three years ago) link

not aware of anything specific, besides general "we/they can't do anything" Dem bleating

brooklyn suicide cult (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 16 July 2020 16:10 (three years ago) link

I read Pareene's tweet as observing that people who think that particular thought are so vanishingly few that it is nearly impossible to locate them.
