Let's just conveniently ignore the thing where a lot of people can't even get approval for a test until/unless they're exhibiting signs of full-blown 'rona.

Well, that's a fine howdy adieu! (Old Lunch), Thursday, 9 July 2020 13:47 (three years ago) link

I've been tuned out for two or three weeks. When I heard him today, it's hard to even describe the sensation--different than what I'd ever felt before.

Why oh why won't the media report this obvious fact that anyone with 2 functioning brain cells could grasp while also realizing it's a fucking idiotic way to look at it, PLEASE TELL ME WHY THEY DON'T

what does this sentence mean

lol that he says doctors were surprised he passed a fucking cognitive test!! Wtf ?

(•̪●) (carne asada), Friday, 10 July 2020 03:21 (three years ago) link

Even if it were true, "the doctors were *very* surprised I passed a cognitive test" is not really the slam dunk the president thinks it is. https://t.co/7hk0LAFxcZ

Fucking shit we really are in some uncharted territory. I mean this whole shit show is so far beyond like Katrina level failure it’s insane.

(•̪●) (carne asada), Friday, 10 July 2020 03:26 (three years ago) link

yeah, with Katrina, Republicans were abandoning the Bush train and people were eager to sell him out. Katrina was bad, this is basically "is my cat playing Simcity"?

I hear that sometimes Satan wants to defund police (Neanderthal), Friday, 10 July 2020 03:47 (three years ago) link

a cat playing simcity would be preferable, because although it might occasionally lay on the keys and accidentally trigger a disaster or bulldoze a small district, everything else would pretty run on autopilot, probably resulting in bad traffic and lopsided zoning. instead, trump is like a really, really dumb kid playing simcity, and that is so much worse for the simcitizens

I just grasped how his lizard brain farted out the "1/100th" thing. 100th=hundredth so you gotta put a 1 in front of it if you mean to say "one hundredth". Wonder if he typed "1 100th" at first but knew that didn't look right.

i still have no idea about the original intent. seems impossible to prove either way, and of course the fact that his top aides are white supremacists means anything they do is pretty suspect.

but them changing the price now confirms nothing. would them keeping the price at $88 confirm that it was a coincidence? if not, then why does changing the price confirm that it was not a coincidence?

The GOAT Harold Land (Karl Malone), Monday, 13 July 2020 18:09 (three years ago) link

Well, at the least it seems to confirm they recognized it was problematic, because why else would they lower it by $.50? My guess, and of course it is only a guess, is some asshole picked that price on purpose, and some lesser degree of asshole caught it and changed it just to avoid the headache. Like, "lol, good one, Stephen Miller, own those libs, but I still think I should change this."

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 13 July 2020 18:35 (three years ago) link

This bit (re: Woolery) is making me think this guy may be kind of a dud.

“I didn’t make a comment,” Trump told Herridge. “I did. I reposted a tweet that a lot of people feel. But all I am doing is making a comment."

I didn't make a comment. I did. All I am doing is making a comment.

To say those three things in a row is... just... boggling. How can anyone keep track of it? The answer is that you can't, and that that is the point. It's chaff. Throw up so many conflicting messages that no one can pin him down, and he can just walk away from any assertion without consequence.

Because once we've isolated and scratched our heads over this bit of nonsense, there will be three more by nightfall.

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/07/trump-wallowing-self-pity/614434/

One senses in Donald Trump no joy, no delight, no laughter. All the emotions that drive him are negative. There is something repugnant about Trump, yes, but there is also something quite sad about the man. He is a damaged soul. In another time, in a different circumstance, there would perhaps be room to pity such a person. But for now, it is best for the pity to wait. There are other things to which to attend. The American public faces one great and morally urgent task above all others between now and November: to do everything in its power to remove from the presidency a self-pitying man who is shattering the nation and doesn’t even care.

The conservative movement in the 1980s, although hardly flawless, was intellectually serious and politically optimistic. And Reagan himself was a man of personal decency, grace, and class.
