perhaps it was just unconscious bias on the part of the brick thrower?

#PMQs begins with a straight question - what will the PM do to stop Boohoo paying workers £3.50 per hour? Boris Johnson: It's up to the Labour mayor of Leicester.

Damn he got us. He got us.

Sunak announces discount worth up to £10 per head for eating out in August

Sunak says his final measure has never been tried in this country.

It is an “eat out to help out scheme”, offering customers as discount worth up to £10 per head when they eat on from Monday to Wednesday in August.

I hope it's eating Boris up to know Sunak is setting the things up very nicely for a palace coup some time in the future.

scampo, foggy and clegg (bizarro gazzara), Wednesday, 8 July 2020 12:41 (three years ago) link

stealth?

imago, Wednesday, 8 July 2020 12:43 (three years ago) link

There must be several parts of the country now where it's pretty safe to go into a restaurant by this stage but that is transparently not true of the whole country, telling people in Bradford to go out and spend money in restaurants is completely different to doing it in Cornwall, or even in London.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 8 July 2020 13:01 (three years ago) link

It's also going to be less predictable when we hit school holidays and people start travelling all over the country.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 8 July 2020 13:03 (three years ago) link

would think about using this if the vouchers can be used to get food delivered. wonder if that's covered?

Boris the Spreader (NickB), Wednesday, 8 July 2020 13:04 (three years ago) link

are there actually vouchers or are they just going to pay participating restaurants directly?

per aspera ad scampo (||||||||), Wednesday, 8 July 2020 13:07 (three years ago) link

Rona aside, there are people in the poorest parts of Bradford, like the Windhill estate who struggle enough to eat in, but these aren't people Rishi gives a flying fuck about.

It wouldn't be so classist and irresponsible in terms of public health danger if the offer was extended to takeaways as well

Hmm

Eek, this seems to include second homes, buy-to-lets and overseas buyers & remove the advantage that first time buyers had to get onto the housing ladder. "This will apply from 8 July 2020 until 31 March 2021 and cut the tax due for everyone who would have paid SDLT" pic.twitter.com/fsTAO9tJla

By the standards of dumb quips by politicians “thanks for the meal deal but we were promised a new deal” is actually one of the stronger efforts tbh

The text in the picture is typically vaporous obv

Keir’d flex (wins), Wednesday, 8 July 2020 13:47 (three years ago) link
