getty, ocean, korean food, maybe lacma if we aren't arted out. no good dj / dance parties to speak of, everyone is breaking that week, go figure. i don't drink anymore so no bars though we might go to the eagle or something.

is it worth giving the la times my bank account info for a 6 month subscription so i can figure out what restaurants we should hit up? what are people's favorite dispensaries?

In highland park: taiwanese food at joy

People seem to like Salazar in frogtown and it’s outdoors if that’s a concern. I thought it was just fine but I don’t eat meat.

both of those sound nice. not too concerned about eating in as we'll both be boosted. i'm assuming masks are de rigueur.

if you're here on 12/19 I'm opening for El Vez the Mexican Elvis at Zebulon (next to Salazar) and his legendary Mex-Mas show!

yes to masks (pretty well observed indoors ime). i think (?) vaccination checks are required but i have literally never xp been checked.

n.b. we will have a car (though will definitely be using metro) and no previous commitments so anything in the greater l.a. area is a possibility.

LACMA is half torn down, but I suppose the other half is open. MOCA downtown, and the Broad (rhymes with road) downtown, though reservations are good for that (there is a wait line if you don't have them).

i think in outdoor areas at least you don’t need to show vax proof. ate out in Glendale the other week and was not asked.

don’t love salazar tbh. outside of the stuff I told you about, I’m fond of la farfalla in los feliz, unassuming little italian joint on hillhurst.

artwise, have heard good things about the Black portrait show at LACMA, the “witch hunt” show at the hammer, and the pipilotti rist show at MoCA, but have not yet been to any of them

i should know this but for hanging out and zoning out to waves should we do - venice beach, william rogers / santa monica, or malibu? or somewhere else? tidepools and a bit of wildness are a plus.

beaches: the malibu beaches are my fave. lots of good small less-peopled ones but you’re coming off-season so crowds won’t be a huge issue anyway i think. there’s a gay-ish stretch of will rogers beach known affectionately as “ginger rogers beach” that i like, it’s near patrick’s roadhouse. love el matador beach too. rancho palos verdes has some stunning beaches (area itself is sorta weird tho)

Museum of Jurassic Technology has reopened and is a must if you haven't been. I'm somewhat at a loss for a good $$$ Italian place but you could have a great time eating your way west down Sunset Blvd. starting with Guisados in Echo Park and then stopping at El Cochinito (Cuban) and Hoy-Ka (Thai). I'm also at a loss for a Korean BBQ place since my go-to (Soot Bull Jeep on 8th) raised their prices and cut quality.

Union in Pasadena is excellent $$$ italian. we had our most recent anniversary dinner there.

donna, it looks good from the map, but would you say that ernest debs park is good for a run?

not a runner but…probably? it is kinda steep in some spots. the main entrance of the park you’d probably have to drive to but you can access a different part of it through the park by our house. it’s a really nice park either way, love the little pond that’s up there.

I (and my 4 year old) like the tide pools at topanga beach in Malibu. There’s not much to see except what seems like a pretty serious surfing bro scene at high tide though.

it seems like malibu is the place. i got recommendations from a beach-loving guy i went to library school with for leo carillo, el matador, and the aforementioned ginger rogers.

la farfalla in los feliz

i lived around the block from there for several years and it is indeed a good neighborhood joint. or if you want to hit up hillhurst at a different time of day, the mustard seed cafe a block or two away is one of my favorite breakfast/lunch spots in la.

at any time of day, it's worth your time to walk 10 minutes from there to check out skylight books on vermont ave. there are a bunch of good food options on those couple blocks of vermont, too, such as figarot.
