hey forks, good to see some of my choices resonate :-) will investigate your list further.

what’s the deal with the Son Tùng M-TP album? I love some of his songs (“Lac Trôi”!!!) Is he especially good live? Did you see the movie?

No mean feat. DaBaby (breastcrawl), Tuesday, 30 June 2020 11:46 (three years ago) link

Wow that Soccer96 EP is really fun, didn't expect it to go full post-punk/DFA.

change display name (Jordan), Tuesday, 30 June 2020 14:45 (three years ago) link

yeah, "i was gonna fight fascism" is a single of the year contender for me i think

Breastcrawl, you are among my fave DJs for sure. RE: Son Tung, I'm at a point where I listen to anything he releases; he and his production is consistently strong (Lac Troi is a bombshell but Chay Ngay Di and Chung Ta Khong Thuoc Ve Nhau are also bangers). Sky Tour is just a live set from his concert film but it's pretty strong throughout. Don't remember if I found him on ILX or not...?

[apologies for lack of proper accent marks for ST M-TP]

forks, you don't dig the Lila Iké EP? no hard feelings if so, just seemed like something you might like

rob, Tuesday, 30 June 2020 16:04 (three years ago) link

i didn't get to it yet! will report back.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Tuesday, 30 June 2020 16:08 (three years ago) link

current on deck playlist is Jessie Ware (maybe four more plays and I can shelf this), select Pure Moods tracks, new K-Pop/Afro thread recommends, Lila Ike (now), HAIM, David Lang, Bibio, IDK, Hum, Pottery, last week's Discovery recommends

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Tuesday, 30 June 2020 16:10 (three years ago) link

The Lila Iké is awesome. I might yet start a thread for her.

No mean feat. DaBaby (breastcrawl), Tuesday, 30 June 2020 16:14 (three years ago) link

Despite everything, this is turning into an amazing year for records.

Maybe a dumb observation, but being stuck at home i think gives you more time to explore and see what's available.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Tuesday, 30 June 2020 16:17 (three years ago) link

true and yet I am like a month behind on the afropop thread yet again :/

rob, Tuesday, 30 June 2020 16:29 (three years ago) link

xp to ulysses: what David Lang you listening to? he's had a couple recent releases I've been meaning to check out

words fail me

xp

No mean feat. DaBaby (breastcrawl), Tuesday, 30 June 2020 16:51 (three years ago) link

xp to snowy: his take on Fidelio, Prisoner of the State... though i have interest in the women's choir version of Love Fail.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Tuesday, 30 June 2020 17:02 (three years ago) link

Yeah what I heard of that sounded really intriguing. I'm also curious about his opera based on The Loser (Thomas Bernhard novel) but have been waiting for a time when my availability, energy, attention, mood, etc are all in alignment

handsome boy modelling software (bernard snowy), Tuesday, 30 June 2020 17:09 (three years ago) link

forks, maybe you found out about ST M-K here: Vietnamese Music/Music in Vietnam. Then again, TSJ covered him a few times over the years as well, I think. Anyways, the songs you mentioned are some of my faves as well. I even like his collabo with Snoop Dogg.

No mean feat. DaBaby (breastcrawl), Tuesday, 30 June 2020 19:09 (three years ago) link

(and thanx!)

No mean feat. DaBaby (breastcrawl), Tuesday, 30 June 2020 19:11 (three years ago) link

Tim F, Tuesday, 30 June 2020 20:38 (three years ago) link
