34 C today, 36 C tomorrow, with crazy humidity on top of that. I don't have air conditioning at my house and usually I was ok because I spend the hottest part of the day in an air conditioned office but working from home this summer this is getting uncomfortable
― silverfish, Friday, 10 July 2020 02:14 (three years ago) link
I had honestly missed this after a year and a half of middling temperatures in the UK but it does take a toll on you in the long run and tomorrow is bound to be brutal no matter which way you slice it. I'm supposed to grab lunch with some friends in the park, no idea how/if we're going to cope.
― pomenitul, Friday, 10 July 2020 02:24 (three years ago) link
It was 32C yesterday and I hated it, ban summer. Much better today, 23C. Next week we may get another pic de chaleur at 32C, ugh.
― Joey Corona (Euler), Friday, 10 July 2020 13:40 (three years ago) link
As bad as last year's Parisian heat wave was (I experienced it firsthand), nothing beats the suffocating humidity of Montreal during the summer. Not only are we expecting 36°C this afternoon, we'll be hovering around 43°C with the humidex. The entire city feels like a hammam.

oh I know, I lived in the american midwest for 20 years. never going back again

Very middling at the moment btw.

Just checked Met Office – you weren’t pulling my leg. The added cloudiness with no end in sight really clinches it. I’ll stick to my sunny 36 degrees, thank you very much.
― pomenitul, Friday, 10 July 2020 14:32 (three years ago) link
36? sheesh - you can have it

34C in Yakutsk on Sunday
― cherry blossom, Friday, 10 July 2020 20:32 (three years ago) link
I thought Chicago was a motherfucker for throwing uncomfortably hot summers at you after brutal winters but sheesh Yakutsk takes the cake. That's just not fair.

Self styled coldest town in the world Oymyakon throwing its hat in the ring, due to hit 30C at the end of next week!

Was 108 on my way to Flagstaff. 40 miles later and after a mountain storm rolled through it's 65. Ahhhhhhhh

today is hellish (40C) and we’ll get our first heatwave next week, 6 august to 12 august at least. Fuck summer forever

Thirty-six here. Appalling.
― Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Friday, 31 July 2020 14:55 (three years ago) link
the "plus" side is that it's now dark enough outside for me to think that we might get a storm worthy of the usa midwest, which are apocalyptic. it feels sick.

People who love hot weather and are like ISN’T THIS GREAT, especially when the weather is only going to get even hotter and eventually kill us all, are the worst. No questions at this time.

I lived in south Texas for four years, there were no joys in sweltering at 40C+. one of the many reasons I came here was to avoid usa midwestern summer heat, but as gyac notes there is no escape from global warming. gonna make granitas now.

― the quar on drugs (Simon H.), Friday, 31 July 2020 15:15 (three years ago) link
Québec City in early January is the worst I’ve experienced but I hear Winnipeg is on another level altogether, so: respect.

I don't mind the heat so long as it's dry. Been 109F/42C here past few days and I'm just like pffft is that all ya got, Sun?? But one day recently it was 90ish and just humid enough for me to feel it (weather app said 36%) and I hated life.
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 31 July 2020 16:16 (three years ago) link

WTF why can't we just have one week of 22-24 degrees, sunshine, and no miserable pissy rain. That's all I ask for.
― kinder, Friday, 31 July 2020 17:30 (three years ago) link
it's dropped to a more manageable 25 degrees here and dark storm clouds are on the horizon, that's more like it
