Hey, sic dredged up one of my old posts. To update:
Barking: good, if not quite at the level of "Scribble"Barking tour: one of the most fun shows I've been to

I'm curious why it wasn't the A-side to begin with if they were woodshedding it so long (see that full disc on the box set).
I first heard it on the Live at Sound City broadcast around April 1994. Remember it well as it was the day the news of Kurt Cobain's death broke and we were supposed to go clubbing that night but my mate's car broke down so a load of us went round another mate's (whose parents were away), necked our pills and listened to Underworld instead.
Great night and the new Mega Mega White Thing track became our anthem for a while. There was also a OMFG moment when we discovered the second track on their new single a year later was the Mega Mega one.

They were woodshedding the original just as long (there's a rough version on the Tramway show I posted yesterday, from April 1994 {XPOST: the one groovypanda heard in enviable circumstances!}). They'd sometimes perform the NUXX lyrics with Born Slippy, which could be what connects them - before the music of each became more consistent, either of them counted as Born Slippy?
Maybe the third Always Loved video is legit! I knew there were two, and since there were two that were on Underworld's own channel, I assumed they were all (and the happy kid singing did suggest an indoctrinating dad). Thanks for doing the sleuthing.

(although only the Mega Mega White Thing song was on the radio broadcast)

are there any recordings of original born slippy with .nuxx's lyrics out there?

Advance comments on the next track:
- There has just been a woman on 'Up all night' on Radio 5 live. The phone in was based around "Where do we draw our strength from in hard times, like during the current Covid-19 crisis". This was her answer. She said it has been for the past 26 years and probably always will be. 'Born Slippy' was as far as my 'Underworld' knowledge spanned up until tonight. Thank you to that
Just listened to the same thing and came straight here to see what this track is I’ve never heard of.
Came here because of exactly that, lol. Love underworld, but have never heard of this track before. So glad I accidentally clicked on 5 live when I did 😁
Same here
I heard it too. Listening to this as a result . Pure joy

i managed to track down the source of those comments and too low!
i've figured out 18 tracks that are surely left to place so one has to miss out and i can't imagine which it could possibly be

haha if I ever find a bar that has "thing in a book" in the mp3 options I will become even more infamous and despised ― TOMBOT, Thursday, February 21, 2008 6:40 AM
placement would be unchanged including 1 vote for remix Second Hand, on comp Café Del Mar
This 3rd disc, with "Thing in a Book" and "Most 'Ospitable" is so ace. Thing In A Book would probably be a top 5 for me track, if we did a poll right now. Maybe even like, #1. ― frogbs, Saturday, November 1, 2014 1:06 AM
alternate version Man Loop, from their old website
I only ever listen to that Thing in a Book track when on the train to London, but it is good. I don't like picking one from this kind of band, as it's not really about that for me, but Banstyle/Sappys Curry is as close as it gets. Actually, there's one called Oich Oich that I like a lot too... Maybe that. ― KeefW, Thursday, May 18, 2006 8:27 AM

A poll without Faxed Invitation, Peach Tree, Trim, Best Mamgu Ever, Oich Oich, 8 Ball, Thing In A Book, and River of Bass is a poll not worth rolling out results for. ― brotherlovesd(pp), Thursday, May 31, 2018 2:19 AM

Finding out about Man Loop for the first time today is wonderful. It would be great if they would stick stuff like this up on their new Bandcamp

Catching up and re-tracking down and trying to metadate their C21st sidebar tracks during Drift, while also tracking the release pattens for Drift, made me frequently imagine how beautifully convenient it could be if they handled the next Drift through Bandcamp, and different ideas for the in-between-episodes weeks.
After hardcore researching and listening over the last couple of months for this poll, now that they've launched a BC I basically reckon they should hire me to run it.

Brilliant, mesmerizing layers of dreamy highs and lows and travels through time and space Underworld style!
A tune that can lead your thoughts and emotions to a different state. I can enjoy it on the sofa or with a freak dancing, totally, unlimited.
Favourite dance track of the last decade. In fact, in the right mood, maybe favourite dance track ever. I fucking love you Underworld !!

Just watching Karl tweak with every minute change of direction this song takes. He really feels it. Born to make music.

Some bands and music are one time wonders...But Underworld's music is as appealing and awesome as ever....ageless.
I got introduced to Underworld quite late...in 2002...and the music i heard then is still a part of my daily playlist today!!!

I think I listened to "Thing in a Book" five times, maybe more, when preparing my ballot. It made my top 10 (only new-to-me track to do so) but I suspect I'm still underrating it
"Low Burn" is my favorite Barbara track by far. So propulsive

both these tracks are so great
I'd been listening to Second Hand for years before I knew about Thing in a Book. couldn't believe how great it was for a B-side. guessing it would've made an album if it weren't 20 minutes long
As for Low Burn...always thought of it as like a sequel to Jumbo
― frogbs, Friday, 19 June 2020 14:25 (three years ago) link
I like that Low Burn has this very chill hippie mantra throughout against such a, for them, deep dark river of bass.
― nashwan, Friday, 19 June 2020 14:39 (three years ago) link
Really enjoying this thread - I've hardly listened to new Underworld material this century, other than a little of Drift, and there's clearly a lot of amazing music to catch up on. (I'm amused to see myself quoted above on Beautiful Burnout - I would have guessed that I'd never listened to this album at all, so I wonder if I only heard it once, before the three plays in a row that I've just given it.)

lolololol i had them as one song from EE as my number 2 or 3 for a long time before i separated them and moved them down to make sic's life less difficult, this would truly be the funniest result
low burn as og underworld/jumbo sequel super OTM. so uplifting.
also ppl saying that there's one more song in their probable top remaining than spot left have me shook, i really don't know what "rates" i guess because i only have like... 14 and i am not even confident? i must be missing some v obvious ones!
