Super rough and informal video of Villa-Lobos's Prelude 1 from the apartment tonight:

been putting the more recent austinato stuff on my youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/austintayeshus1

most recent thing was this quickie ep deal which is most likely going to be that last new recordings for the foreseeable future as all my gear is now in storage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4Z9xD0Jjns

it's also all on my bandcamp(s) for free if you want to download* along with a shitton of older stuff i haven't put on youtube yet. links in the video descriptions.

*but why you would want to potentially do that is a complete mystery to me. thanks everyone for sharing your musics. i'm sorry i don't have specific thoughts, but i feel like everyone who posts music in here should be a lot more known by a lot more people (except me of course; my music is the opposite of remarkable and unique and made by a talented person).

WHEN WE ALL ASCEND TO HEAVEN (33ā€‹:ā€‹33 EXTENDED ZETA WAVE MIX)

Support development of NETHERLIFE by purchasing this extended 33 minute and 33 second version of pivotal soundtrack cut "When We All Ascend to Heaven", composed and assembled in 2020 by the Special Paranormal Research Division of AG&M Auricular Operations.

The composition - informed by study of the fabled 'zeta' waves long rumored to emanate from an unknown origin inside the earth's core, previously unconfirmed by science or any tool of human measure - is said to, with each repetition, subtly recalibrate the listener's biochemical vibrations, gently and gradually realigning their brain chemicals' crystalline structures in natural synchronicity with ultra low level frequencies resonating from a distant and enlightened place, where corporeal concerns are unable to further disturb one's mind or spirit.

Dan what I always enjoy about your recordings is you focus as much on the unison parts as you do the harmonies. I get aggravated when I see people making a capella tracks where the harmonies sound good, but the dude's out of tune with himself on the unison parts cos those are "boring".

of course the harmonies sound great too. for some reason I can't d/l that app on my android, I guess it doesn't support this beta version. meh. I really wanna start doing stuff like this again.

good work!

This was one of the first tracks I wrote for Balboa Park, and the last single to come out before we finish up a few more things are release a full LP. I was trying to capture the vibes of late-nineties raving in the Bay Area and artists like Francois K. With some amazing sax from Brendan Buss.

realize this is more for self-recorded music but haven't been real excited about picking up the guitar lately...or the ukulele, which I haven't played basically since the song I posted here in March. i noodle but between the lack of privacy with the roommates and self-consciousness, find myself playing less.

so I'm mostly just singing....this was me trying something a little more bleak, Brel's "If You Go Away", Sinatra's version. who knows, maybe I'll do a mega-bleak Zoom cabaret one day, lolz.

Finally released a clutch of beats from 2013 - 2015 that were initially supposed to be rap instrumentals, mostly slow and vibey. Tbh making a ton of music on spec and having it go unreleased (except for one track) was very discouraging at the time, which made me realize that the throwing-it-at-the-wall, lottery-esque nature of producing for rappers was not for me. It was very nostalgic to go back through my hard drive, but I'm glad never have to think about these again!

For my part, I just put a new EP up: https://foundriver.bandcamp.com/album/fr-01. I'm not quite where I want to be with this stuff yet, but it isn't *completely* horrible (I think) and I wanted to put something out there. Be gentle pls.

DJI, Friday, 7 August 2020 17:14 (three years ago) link

Thanks zchyrs. Really nice synth stuff on yours. Have you thought about doing any beatless tracks? I don't mean that as a diss, I just think it would sound good.

I set up some drums in my garage attic and practiced on a kit for the first time in years. It's been very frustrating and not especially enjoyable, mostly due to being out of practice + sick of my limitations + having watched too many great drummers on Youtube. Luckily these days you can curate the decent moments:

Thanks, Jordan! Yeah, synth textures are my main focus with this project. I've made some beatless tracks before (like this one: https://soundcloud.com/found-river/sundogs) but I often feel like something is missing from them. I am currently attempting some stuff that skews closer to "pure" ambient, we'll see how that goes.

american primitive stylophone (zchyrs), Friday, 7 August 2020 22:57 (three years ago) link

i was trying to make a slow hip-hop beat on my sampler but when i recorded it onto my computer, the speed and pitch somehow got doubled and it ended up sounding more footwork-y. i decided to go with it, added back the missing bass and some other stuff. it's still clunky because i don't know what i'm doing yet but i think it's fun: https://soundcloud.com/user-378919876-468565288/porcupine

Working on a lockdown covers EP at the moment, enlisting pals to play what I cannot.

However, I'm about three-quarters of the way into a version of Evil by Red House Painters, now I'm in a moral quandary *sigh*

Unearthed a sort of piano rock/AOR demo I recorded a few years ago -- this was in a phase where the kids were very little and it was hard to find time to record, so I had to stick with imperfect takes, also never got the vocals down the way I wanted so it remained instrumental. Still really like parts of it.
