lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 June 2020 23:22 (three years ago) link

i mean the gms hire players not the other players

lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 June 2020 23:24 (three years ago) link

*except for lebron obvs

lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 June 2020 23:25 (three years ago) link

which isnt to say the stars dont have some influence on their teams personnel decisions but just going along w what the stars want in detriment to yr own interests doesnt make a ton of sense

lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 June 2020 23:27 (three years ago) link

i think the stars are maybe more organized cause they tend to stay in the league longer, they form a block and stack the union leadership etc in their favor, then peel off enough rank and file with glow/intimidation and it kinda makes sense

lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 June 2020 23:30 (three years ago) link

use Tidal as a model and promise only high quality play in the new league. Could make a convincing A/B reel from kyrie's last celtic season alone.

voltmeter said i had potential (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 17 June 2020 00:46 (three years ago) link

xp it's also a unique situation where some of the stars we have are really good at this stuff--like cp3 and lebron would have been leaders in any field they chose because they're so intelligent, savvy, and capable. also they really want to do it, they're not lone wolf types like mj or kobe.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 17 June 2020 00:54 (three years ago) link

nice to see kyrie at it again btw--a breakaway players league would be bled dry by litigation and create tremendous ill-will in the process.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 17 June 2020 00:57 (three years ago) link

wasn’t this the plot of high flying bird?

ACABincalifornia (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 17 June 2020 01:05 (three years ago) link

yeah

lag∞n, Wednesday, 17 June 2020 01:06 (three years ago) link

i forgot about that--is it any good?

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 17 June 2020 01:08 (three years ago) link

my memory of that movie is mostly paying no mind to character or plot and just puzzling out how soderbergh was playing tricks with an iPhone camera

Clay, Wednesday, 17 June 2020 01:19 (three years ago) link

There was a Ringer thing yesterday saying that Kyrie “relished” going against Lebron in this that definitely made me go hmmm. A players league might be cool but could be really tough to figure out how to structure.

circles, Wednesday, 17 June 2020 01:23 (three years ago) link

rumor going around that kyrie got mad at all of this cause he wanted to go to the bubble and they said only active players can

lag∞n, Wednesday, 17 June 2020 01:30 (three years ago) link

not sure that the theoretical players league is something you wanna do off the cuff with kyrie in charge is my major objection; this is something you organize and finance quietly and thoroughly for years

Clay, Wednesday, 17 June 2020 01:41 (three years ago) link

of course kyrie ultimately just wants us all to free our minds god bless him

Clay, Wednesday, 17 June 2020 01:42 (three years ago) link

Bless this man and his love of messy drama

Spottie, Wednesday, 17 June 2020 02:02 (three years ago) link

to do it you need an exit strategy from the nba which would take really smart people years to develop

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 17 June 2020 02:17 (three years ago) link

players can already leave the nba to play in another league if they want

lag∞n, Wednesday, 17 June 2020 02:35 (three years ago) link

i support comrade kyrie

methinks dababy doth bop shit too much (m bison), Wednesday, 17 June 2020 02:35 (three years ago) link

we could start a ilh branded league but I don’t want to be selfish

Clay, Wednesday, 17 June 2020 02:39 (three years ago) link

xxp true but none of those leagues are in the us of a

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 17 June 2020 02:47 (three years ago) link

And they don't pay salaries on NBA scale.

Sources tell me that Kyrie Irving never stated that the Nets should begin their own league in response to the bubble.

I'm told that after that report came out, he left the group chat.

— Taylor Rooks (@TaylorRooks) June 17, 2020

Boring

Spottie, Wednesday, 17 June 2020 03:14 (three years ago) link

kyrie has left the chat

lag∞n, Wednesday, 17 June 2020 03:22 (three years ago) link

imagining a league that only consists of the nets.

The NBA health protocols concede maintaining 6 feet of distance during card games "may not be practicable," and require anyone playing cards indoors wear masks. Players/staff must dispose of the deck at the end of each game/session. "Sufficient packs of cards will be available."

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 17 June 2020 04:04 (three years ago) link

A “player’s league” is an insanely dumb idea and you are under no obligation to patronize Kyrie about this

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 17 June 2020 13:50 (three years ago) link

players league 4 life

lag∞n, Wednesday, 17 June 2020 13:53 (three years ago) link

Big 3 except it's with five players and its the NBA

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 17 June 2020 14:40 (three years ago) link

A one on one league would work for sure

time to start the list of guys who are not going to play:

- bertans
- oubre, jr.

call all destroyer, Monday, 22 June 2020 19:48 (three years ago) link

yeah if i were a guy on a contract year on one of these bubble teams and the league was all come to orlando if you feel like it id be all ehhhhhhh

lag∞n, Monday, 22 June 2020 19:53 (three years ago) link

xp so this isn't about coronavirus risk, right? you've just already played your way into a good contract and now have an excuse that allows you to shed risk of a typical basketball injury in remaining games?

voltmeter said i had potential (Sufjan Grafton), Monday, 22 June 2020 20:04 (three years ago) link

Probably both

Spottie, Monday, 22 June 2020 20:05 (three years ago) link

apparently bertans has twice torn an ACL, you can understand it. honestly, if the season had played out normally the wizards would've had no shot at the playoffs and bertans would've shut it down at some point anyway

J0rdan S., Monday, 22 June 2020 20:16 (three years ago) link

yup. he's going to get paid like $60 million and the only thing that could derail that is another knee injury in a game that doesn't matter.

call all destroyer, Monday, 22 June 2020 20:17 (three years ago) link

starting to think this really isn’t gonna happen what with Florida being a cesspool and so many employees not gonna be bubbled, just way too likely a major outbreak blows up in everyone’s face

Clay, Monday, 22 June 2020 20:20 (three years ago) link

If the bubble is going to be a genuine bubble, then all the support staff like cooks and cleaning staff need to be in the bubble, too. Everyone. No exceptions. If they have more than a hundred low-paid support workers going in and out every day, regardless of such folderol as temperature checks as they report to work each day, then the whole scheme will blow up in their faces.

the unappreciated charisma of cows (Aimless), Monday, 22 June 2020 20:27 (three years ago) link

pretty sure Disney has already said that def isn’t happening so

Clay, Monday, 22 June 2020 20:33 (three years ago) link

i understand where comments like these come from, but i think there is a tendency to overestimate the amount of contact the players will have with the support staff, which to my understanding should be next to none.

call all destroyer, Monday, 22 June 2020 20:34 (three years ago) link

it's not a true bubble, service staff will be coming and going

J0rdan S., Monday, 22 June 2020 20:35 (three years ago) link

The players themselves are the most likely spreaders. They should have to wear masks while they play imo.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Monday, 22 June 2020 20:36 (three years ago) link

which I was fine with the semi-bubble thing until Florida was like 🎢 on new cases

Clay, Monday, 22 June 2020 20:39 (three years ago) link

The players will absolutely be the main spreaders. The problem is that once a player or two acquires the infection in any way, the spreading will be very hard to control. The nature of hoops is tailor made for this virus, for the same reasons that one infected person attending a choir practice is able to spread it to a couple dozen fellow choristers.
