I have to admit, I voted for "Walkin On The Moon". On an album full of great tracks, it's the one I keep coming back to. I like the spongy synths, and I LOVE Kanye's verse. I also think it also has the sweetest reverie and the most beautiful chord change on the album, in "I'd pull down a cloud for you/I'd circle the stars and bring you one back...".

I'm a sucker for those kind've fizzy strings - DJed this into Metro Area's "Miura" at a party to pretty great effect.

'love vs money pt 2' being the only proper track to get 0 is more o_0 than 'walking on the moon' getting a handful, wtf people the orchestration alone

haven't heard the mixtape but i think i like the joint w/keri hilson, on one listen

yay for "right side". but the best thing on the album might actually be the transition from the end of "fancy" to the end of the intro of "right side" (basically, when the beat starts).
I also love how dream harmonizes with himself throughout "right side", going higher every time.

wish I'd voted for lvmpt2 now, can't remember if I voted right side of my brain or fancy

two weeks pass...

Finally came around to "Fancy" this week, after playing it a bunch on speakers instead of headphones. Agree with Jordan above about the drums and build and release and all that, but think my favorite part is about a minute before the end, when Terius joins in with the c&s'd vocal track that keeps on popping in and out; the wild, jittery way in which he goes "a-t-a-t a-t-L!" is awesome.

I've been into "walking on the moon" a lot lately. mainly because of its great and clean production (the beat is huge and although there are a lot of synths and stuffs going on, there's a lot of space, somehow) and the "I'll pull down the clouds" part which lovely. Kanye is annoying, though.

two months pass...

i'm back at the top of the ferris wheel on this album and i'm starting to think that "put it down" is one of the three or four best songs on either album

really like that part where he goes "had to run up right out the VI, pop that, seen you drop that, and now I'm like do that again" (gain gain)

dyao, Saturday, 10 October 2009 06:28 (fourteen years ago) link

that song is one of the oddest of his career imo - like i said upthread, it always immediately strikes me as aurally unappealing, really thin & flat & compressed. but it has some really great lyrics, my thing about terius being great at club sloganeering fleshed out over a whole song. plus the 'titties like woooHOOOOOH' part which is arguably the high point of his career and the keyboard whistles that punctuate throughout. it's a song with so many gifts that presents itself as so ordinary imo. i always have to remind myself how much i love it.

it takes a nation of 51 to hold us back (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 10 October 2009 06:32 (fourteen years ago) link

good summation; I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of its thinness, which applies to a lot of the album in general - probably the reason why I only really listen to Fancy through Mr. Yeah, and prefer LvH over this one.

dyao, Saturday, 10 October 2009 06:36 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah it's weird, like, "love vs money" and "love vs money pt 2", i think these are two of his best songs across either album, but sonically they're not "plain" but they are definitely less involved than a ton of the productions on the album. now, i think they work as this two part apocalyptic & hectic mini suite but i'm still taken aback sometimes at how abrasive and simple they are. but, i totally love & buy into them so i totally buy into the mood that tricky & terius were going for

Other great things about "Take U Home 2 My Mama":

  • His awesome twang
  • The way he slides into falsetto on the line "I'm makin' my way through the mother-*fuckin club*"
  • The "OH SHAWTY DO THAT AGAIN" chant
  • "I'm like...damn/ My niggas like *DAMN*"
  • Another great slide into falsetto (he does kinda excel at knowing exactly when to do this) "Shawty look good/ Shawty look fly/ She said we could leave after one more dance/ I said *Take your time*"

"take u home 2 my mama" has gotta be one of my favorite terius songs period but for some reason i always forget about it when naming my favorite songs from this album - it's not until i play the album and i realize it's coming up that i appreciate it.

we beat so many gimp (k3vin k.), Saturday, 10 October 2009 15:24 (fourteen years ago) link

anyway i think i'm back to repping "rockin that shit" as my favorite now - listened to this while lolhigh and the beat just fuckin jumped out at me like crazy, the synths are so fucking huge

we beat so many gimp (k3vin k.), Saturday, 10 October 2009 15:26 (fourteen years ago) link

like i said in another thread though, i've also recently come to the realization that most of my favorite terius songs are LOS joints, i could seriously listen to his schtick all damn day.

yeah "take you home" is so ridic -- just checked and unsurprisingly it's the most played song on the album in my itunes

i have an all-LOS playlist i've been meaning to burn to disc for a while, maybe i'll post the tracklist and see if anyone can point out anything i forgot

man i was gonna request that someone do that actually - ive been listening to a bunch of his shit recently but his wiki page is wayyy underdone, i'd love if you posted what you've got

at the moment it's just a basic mix of stuff from the albums i already have -- T-D and Electrik Red plus one track each from the latest Mario/Jamie Foxx/Usher/Mariah/etc. haven't gotten around to getting copies of all the scattered singles like "Bed" and "Stilettos"
