i was flying a chopper around the large factory area on the third island and when i approached the large cooling towers, I swear there was a person stood on the very top on the rim running around. As i got closer he just jumped inside.

The alleyway dude drives up at 1.10 looks just like the place near the bridge on the 1st island in GTA3 where the rocket launcher rampage was. Weirdly familiar. Bit where the dude beats the hooker down so he can recover his money and she limps off clutching her stomach is a bit...er....much? Eh.

Play.com got this delivered to me this afternoon and I only ordered it like a day ago <3

This weekend is a total wash-out now, but shouldn't matter too much because apparently the recent heat-wave in Glasgow is going to be replaced by heavy showers anyway. Ah well. Pulling an all nighter tonight I should think.

"I'M LIVING HERE WITH ROMAN!"

... was what I thought he kept on shouting during the rescue roman mission. I was like, dude what kind of a threat is that? "ha you've think you've taken him to a random abandoned factory but in fact this is my crib!"

ledge, Friday, 9 May 2008 23:14 (fifteen years ago) link

Man I suck at this game. Can't do my first Little Jacob mission, nor can I stop biker dude who's making out with whatsisface's daughter. Gah.

stet, Friday, 9 May 2008 23:41 (fifteen years ago) link

If you're going for the all guns blazing approach then - be more subtle.

Finally got it in glasgow. This is the first grand theft auto that i've completely fell in love with.

Dy, Saturday, 10 May 2008 12:58 (fifteen years ago) link

you should marry it!

s1ocki, Saturday, 10 May 2008 16:36 (fifteen years ago) link

single player got more enjoyable when I figured out that to get more missions, I had to go to Roman's workplace and Little Jacob's house. Until then I was just waiting for someone to call, which meant Michelle and Roman for dates and strippers. Plus side: warm coffee!

Euler, Saturday, 10 May 2008 16:39 (fifteen years ago) link

I would marry it but it might kill me.

Ste, Monday, 12 May 2008 08:30 (fifteen years ago) link

so i spent a good part of yesterday getting a car on the roller coaster, all was going well until i got to the top and the car rolled over and got stuck inbetween the tracks.

what's the best vehicle to ride on it with?

and been laughing a lot a the lazlow Integrity station, especially the nerd guy and the bloke who thinks he's entitled to touch womens 'bits' if they're showing in public.

Ste, Monday, 12 May 2008 14:05 (fifteen years ago) link

Took Roman to play darts in a helicopter. He didn't seem impressed by my choice of ride. Taking him home, I landed on the other side of the road from his house and the idiot got run over. Then I landed the helicopter on top of a police car, destroying the chopper and getting 4 stars. Then Roman rang me asking to be picked up from the hospital. So in a police car I'd nicked, with the wheels already shot out I managed to pick him up and take him home, at which point my stars vanished, yay!

ledge, Monday, 12 May 2008 15:04 (fifteen years ago) link

- Missions so far seem pretty easy.

- Enjoying the ragdoll technology very much. I pushed Dardan out the window in his mission and he broke his back on the dike out front.

- Found some sketchy drug house with bongs and pipes and hobos wandering around on top. Threw a few of them off onto the highway below.

- Pushing people in front of trains wasn't as cool as I thought it'd be.

- Made it to Algonguin by going down the subway line. Didn't get past the upstairs of the police station, but did gain an AK out of it.

- Haven't figured out yet how to simply ride in the taxi. I whistle, it says hit the "Y" button, and I pull the driver out of his cab.

- I hear Bigfoot lives in the Village.

Pleasant Plains, Monday, 12 May 2008 16:35 (fifteen years ago) link

-the Missions get more difficult (obviously), but the sheer number of them is perplexing to me. I played it an awful lot this weekend and am still only about 25% through the game.

-Once you whistle for the taxi and it stops for you, you have to hold down "Y".

Dear Rockstar:

GTA is not an FPS, stop expecting me to mow down like 20 dudes in a closed space when your targeting system has only been upgraded from "balls" to "ass"

You just leave. There's no button.

polyphonic, Monday, 12 May 2008 17:19 (fifteen years ago) link

Am currently trying to get the "Fly the co-op" multiplayer mission time limit achievement. Hangman's NOOSE = pretty easy if you all know what you're doing. Bomb da Base II - there is a handy glitch which should make it easier although I haven't got it yet. Deal Breaker - fuckin ell. Hardest thing is that you need to do it with only two people so you have to mess around in the lobby for ages trying to find a game with one other person, or kicking people out of games.

there is much fun to be had in mowing down 20 dudes in a closed space even if the targeting is less than perfect. you boys should stop those tears, pick up the gamepad and play the mission again. i'm sure you'll do much better next time.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 12 May 2008 19:14 (fifteen years ago) link

I watched my wife use molatov cocktails to "beat up" Roman's adversaries on the basketball court.

Pleasant Plains, Monday, 12 May 2008 19:26 (fifteen years ago) link

dude I'm not saying I couldn't do it, but any button function involving "half pressing" is fucking dumb

I love how any criticism of a game becomes "YOU SUCK AT IT D00D"

AJ Styles, Monday, 12 May 2008 19:27 (fifteen years ago) link

yes i find a small fault with the 'hiding' ability is when someone suddenly appears opposite you, then you have to leave hide mode and then wrap the camera around 180 degrees before you can even stand a chance of targeting the guy.

Still having heaps of fun though, only 3 more cars to get for Stevie!

And if Packie beats me at Pool once more I think I may have to burn him, yes burn him.

Ste, Monday, 12 May 2008 20:00 (fifteen years ago) link

I suck at it AND think the targeting is a hunk o ass

stet, Monday, 12 May 2008 20:04 (fifteen years ago) link

I wish I had more desire to play this game, but I feel I may have overloaded on it. I will return to it soon, no doubt.

B.L.A.M., Monday, 12 May 2008 20:47 (fifteen years ago) link

i know what you mean. i went through a stage, after doing a fair amount of stuff, suddenly getting fed up and not having the urge to attempt anything in it. So left it for a good few days.

Fired it up last night tho and I can't put the fucking thing down again, I feel more part of it's world now it's sucked me in big time.

I'm only posting on here cos the controller is out of juice.

Any consensus as to which of the multiplayer games is any good?

jim, Monday, 12 May 2008 21:31 (fifteen years ago) link

if you have a group of friends, it's pretty great to go in free mode and do something krazy like take up residence in the prison and try to get six stars

Euler, Monday, 12 May 2008 21:32 (fifteen years ago) link

I like deathmatch and race and gta race and cops n crooks.

Race really does deliver a top notch racing game - ok generally in a game of 16 players, 10 of them are idiot n00bs who pile into the first corner withotu braking and do their best to fuck it up for everyone else, but if you hang back and avoid the carnage, or manage to get out in front, then you generally end up having a good race with the 6 players who can actually drive.

GTA race is a bit like wipeout, ie racing with guns, but in wipeout you can't get out of your car, jump into a bus to create a roadblock, collect a rocket launcher, and camp by your roadblock, destroying everyone as they try to get past.

Cops n crooks - can be bad or good depending who you play with (really this applies to all the modes) but when it's good it's very very good; there's a million different ways each game could turn out, from clinically executed takedowns to hilarious random carnage.
