strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 6 March 2006 19:35 (eighteen years ago) link

oh, I see. Never mind.

xp

Adamrl (nordicskilla), Monday, 6 March 2006 19:36 (eighteen years ago) link

trackademicks dude is cool, but honestly kinda boring. there's just no surprise. there's really no comparing him and sa ra though.

i did like the e40 beat better than the original.

team jaxon (jaxon), Monday, 6 March 2006 19:37 (eighteen years ago) link

ah ok well i can't say i heard a full sa-ra tape anyway but what i heard the few times they came on radio was fairly offensive tbh

there's that myspace, http://www.myspace.com/trackademicks i'm out

rtcotm (mwah), Monday, 6 March 2006 19:40 (eighteen years ago) link

Hailing from Alameda, an island located off the coast of Oakland, CA, Trackademicks makes music driven by the same philosophy that made him; mix it up. Born to a Filipino father from the Bay Area and a Black mother from Richmond, VA, his cultural diversity inherently translates itself into the music. “Like California Cuisine, I take ingredients and influences from all over to add to our local tastes and create something appealing to everyone.”

So he's like the Alice Waters of 2006 R&B?

Adamrl (nordicskilla), Monday, 6 March 2006 19:44 (eighteen years ago) link

Only if relys on fresh locally grown samplers and mixing desks.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 6 March 2006 19:47 (eighteen years ago) link

sa ra is greatness, but it's what i call "fancy trainer" music. like all that benji-b-ified stuff, it requires serious glad rags. you've gotta fancy yourself up to listen to it...i love it, but i don't have the cash to buy the lifestyle.

cybele (cybele), Monday, 6 March 2006 19:56 (eighteen years ago) link

oh, and i second the love for ppp and up you an omar. new record's coming out soon...i'm very very excited.

cybele (cybele), Monday, 6 March 2006 19:58 (eighteen years ago) link

jaxon likes it!

Adamrl (nordicskilla), Monday, 6 March 2006 20:02 (eighteen years ago) link

is jaxon fancy?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 6 March 2006 20:03 (eighteen years ago) link

i dress like a hobo fwiw

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 6 March 2006 20:03 (eighteen years ago) link

me too

it's sad when you realize you don't even have the budget to look indie ! (you know, if you actually wanted to).

Adamrl (nordicskilla), Monday, 6 March 2006 20:04 (eighteen years ago) link

Jaxon strikes me as someone who has one or two pairs of fancy trainers in his industrial living space.

Adamrl (nordicskilla), Monday, 6 March 2006 20:05 (eighteen years ago) link

Of course I shouldn't presume.

Adamrl (nordicskilla), Monday, 6 March 2006 20:05 (eighteen years ago) link

i bought a new pair of sneakers the other day and i felt like a rich man indeed

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 6 March 2006 20:06 (eighteen years ago) link

The sneakers I wear on any given day are worth more than everything else I'm wearing combined (even when I layer up). It has been this way since I was nine or so.

Andy_K (Andy_K), Monday, 6 March 2006 20:07 (eighteen years ago) link

This thread is going weird.

Adamrl (nordicskilla), Monday, 6 March 2006 20:07 (eighteen years ago) link

Like today, for instance:

Costco shirt bought by wife (gray-like): $10
Calvin Klein jeans bought at Nordstrom Rack (blue): $15
Champion boxer briefs (white): $5
Socks (black): $5
Somewhat-fancy Italian "lifestyle" shoes (black and blue): $80 (I think)

x-post

Andy_K (Andy_K), Monday, 6 March 2006 20:10 (eighteen years ago) link

If Sa-Ra go to Costco, it's p'bly to buy big vats of maple syrup in which to dunk their stripper friends.

Andy_K (Andy_K), Monday, 6 March 2006 20:12 (eighteen years ago) link

And maybe some CDRs (CDR-ahs).

Andy_K (Andy_K), Monday, 6 March 2006 20:13 (eighteen years ago) link

Adam you do not dress like a hobo. Hobos don't shop at H&M.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 6 March 2006 20:16 (eighteen years ago) link

THEY DON'T?

;)

Adamrl (nordicskilla), Monday, 6 March 2006 20:19 (eighteen years ago) link

hey--i'm in the market for some new fancy triners. my kangaroos are way to 2004.

cybele (cybele), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 17:32 (eighteen years ago) link

i've been known to wear some fancy trainers and expensive jeans while driving around in my suv that i park in my downtown loft

team jaxon (jaxon), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 17:34 (eighteen years ago) link

unfortunately that's all true

team jaxon (jaxon), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 17:34 (eighteen years ago) link

oh, and one more thing. SA RA IS NOT NEO-SOUL!!

team jaxon (jaxon), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 17:35 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah I don't hear that either.

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 17:37 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah, but they hang with those folks...and folks who luv the neo-soul tend to like'em...

cybele (cybele), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 18:04 (eighteen years ago) link

all slsk folders containing sa-ra tend to confirm this

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 18:07 (eighteen years ago) link

one year passes...
So, they're finally releasing an album! April 24th... it's not Black Fuzz, they claim it's just something to get us warmed up for the REAL MAJOR LABEL DEBUT, but hey it's something. Featues Erykah adu, Gerogia Anne Muldrow, Bilal, and a bunch of others.

The Brainwasher, Wednesday, 21 March 2007 01:48 (seventeen years ago) link

it's about time, yes

Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 21 March 2007 14:00 (seventeen years ago) link

hmmm

strongohulkington, Wednesday, 21 March 2007 16:30 (seventeen years ago) link

i have a sa-ra comp or something i downloaded, but it doesn't have any of the track names. i hate when people don't tag their shit properly.

artdamages, Wednesday, 21 March 2007 17:15 (seventeen years ago) link

New disc is called The Hollywood Recordings and it's coming out on neither Sound in Color nor Sony/G.O.O.D. Music (who are allegedly putting out the debut album) but on Babygrande. Huh.

Telephone thing, Wednesday, 21 March 2007 17:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Who is mad amped?

HOOS is mad amped.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 21 March 2007 19:28 (seventeen years ago) link

two weeks pass...
my friend sent me a few mp3s from The Hollywood Recordings that Giant Step is giving out as a digital promo. 'Feel The Bass (feat. Talib Kweli)', 'Hey Love', 'So Special', 'And If (feat. Ty)'. i'm pretty unimpressed. Hey Love is great. the track with talib has talib on it - ugh. wasn't a fan of the other 2.

so i'm on IM w/him and i say: "so special" sucks. sounds like bad neo soul
and he responds with "that's my good friend Reesie"

uhhhh, ooops.

Undaunted by their road blocks to success, the group has remained focused on the task at hand and denies speculation that they were close to the point of going their separate ways.
"It's not that there was more tension than usual, but with not having money and cats starting to ask questions, that tension gets to a point...", he explains. "It was a growth period. We weren't broken up and as far as I'm concerned we weren't going to break up. I've been through worst situations in the music business. What it does...it's like facing death. You let it die or you resurrect and keep it moving. It made us face the importance of Sa-Ra."

jaxon, Saturday, 14 April 2007 23:33 (seventeen years ago) link

so srsly, can someone put down their top 3 unimpeachable sa-ra classics or something? still curious if its me or them - just listened to this album, found it really pretty wack, but i'm seeing people saying the kweli track's hott when there was me reckoning it was the worst track on it by far. 'hey love' is nice.

did anyone ever hear this btw? def better than hollywood from what little i recall. also the cherrywine album that got mentioned upthread, that was fun too

r|t|c, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:27 (sixteen years ago) link
