I considered "My Love" for a while - it was my favourite track on the album when it came out, but I feel like I played it out pretty quick. It really needs one more verse or something. It feels strangely lacking somehow.

Haha -- "Walking On the Moon" did OK in the Stylus jukebox a couple of weeks ago. Stand up and be counted, knaves.

agreed, but going back and listening to it again, it actually is really incredible. the last minute especially, from "right side of my brain" through the woah-oh-oh's has so many neat little layered sounds that all contribute alot.

These poll results are screwed. "Walking on the Moon" has got to be the bottom of the album, but it's second on this poll? How did "Put It Down" only get two votes?
― nothinbutcuts, Monday, 29 June 2009 05:26 (fourteen years ago) link
Heh, I voted for Walking On The Moon because I thought nobody else was going to, and it cheerfully reminds me 50s generic happy modern machine music/Joe Meek stuff I've been listening to a lot this year. I totally blank the Kanye verse tho.
― etc, Monday, 29 June 2009 05:51 (fourteen years ago) link
I have to admit, I voted for "Walkin On The Moon". On an album full of great tracks, it's the one I keep coming back to. I like the spongy synths, and I LOVE Kanye's verse. I also think it also has the sweetest reverie and the most beautiful chord change on the album, in "I'd pull down a cloud for you/I'd circle the stars and bring you one back...".

I'm a sucker for those kind've fizzy strings - DJed this into Metro Area's "Miura" at a party to pretty great effect.

'love vs money pt 2' being the only proper track to get 0 is more o_0 than 'walking on the moon' getting a handful, wtf people the orchestration alone

yay for "right side". but the best thing on the album might actually be the transition from the end of "fancy" to the end of the intro of "right side" (basically, when the beat starts).I also love how dream harmonizes with himself throughout "right side", going higher every time.

Finally came around to "Fancy" this week, after playing it a bunch on speakers instead of headphones. Agree with Jordan above about the drums and build and release and all that, but think my favorite part is about a minute before the end, when Terius joins in with the c&s'd vocal track that keeps on popping in and out; the wild, jittery way in which he goes "a-t-a-t a-t-L!" is awesome.

I've been into "walking on the moon" a lot lately. mainly because of its great and clean production (the beat is huge and although there are a lot of synths and stuffs going on, there's a lot of space, somehow) and the "I'll pull down the clouds" part which lovely. Kanye is annoying, though.

― dyao, Saturday, 10 October 2009 06:28 (fourteen years ago) link
that song is one of the oddest of his career imo - like i said upthread, it always immediately strikes me as aurally unappealing, really thin & flat & compressed. but it has some really great lyrics, my thing about terius being great at club sloganeering fleshed out over a whole song. plus the 'titties like woooHOOOOOH' part which is arguably the high point of his career and the keyboard whistles that punctuate throughout. it's a song with so many gifts that presents itself as so ordinary imo. i always have to remind myself how much i love it.
― it takes a nation of 51 to hold us back (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 10 October 2009 06:32 (fourteen years ago) link
good summation; I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of its thinness, which applies to a lot of the album in general - probably the reason why I only really listen to Fancy through Mr. Yeah, and prefer LvH over this one.
― dyao, Saturday, 10 October 2009 06:36 (fourteen years ago) link
yeah it's weird, like, "love vs money" and "love vs money pt 2", i think these are two of his best songs across either album, but sonically they're not "plain" but they are definitely less involved than a ton of the productions on the album. now, i think they work as this two part apocalyptic & hectic mini suite but i'm still taken aback sometimes at how abrasive and simple they are. but, i totally love & buy into them so i totally buy into the mood that tricky & terius were going for
