Minn AG Keith Ellison is quoted acknowledging the mysterious no license plate vehicles in this article (which I otherwise have no particular opinion of):

Scary stuff.

I live in nempls and am kind of shocked at how quiet it has been here, keep waiting for the other shoe to drop

neighbors have found kerosene soaked wood in the alleys and I have seen pics online of bottles of gas and such, but that's really about it other than the shops on Central being boarded up and the police station looking like a Mad Max fort

oh and let's not forget the police union offices on University, honestly surprised there hasn't been protests there yet

I had heard that Moon Palace got burned--what a relief!

― Dan I.

I've been worried about this place too because of their location. Glad they're doing ok.

Just saw Hymies Records posting that they're doing alright and thanking the support they've had. As I mentioned on the other thread, I feel extra protective over the record stores having got to know a lot of the people working at them. We managed to get boarded up at Agharta and are closed at the moment. Hoping that my boss has been able to get home and get some rest. He had a few long nights staying over at the shop.

My wife's sister and partner live in Minneapolis and said it has been rough by them. They got out of town on Friday as they could see buildings on fire from their home. Heartbreaking to hear my sister in law say they expected to come back to their place being burned down.

Hope that everyone is hanging in there.

I hope that people are recognising the presence of that accelerant and prepared firewood and warning others about it being around. So people have a chance to check for and therefore dispose of it.
Sounds nightmarish.

Reports of a basement fire and lighter fluid found at an apartment building across the street from me last night. Seemingly the entire national guard arrived with the fire truck.

Great thread:

Bob Kroll’s letter yesterday to the Minneapolis Police Federation membership showed us what rank-and-file officers voted for in their leadership, and it is yet another sign that the department is irredeemably beyond reform.

The Minneapolis Police Department has proven themselves beyond reform.

It’s time to disband them and reimagine public safety in Minneapolis.

Thank you to @MplsWard3 for your leadership on this! https://t.co/AQfHM5M6eR

Federal prosecutors charged Branden Michael Wolfe, 23, of St. Paul with arson in connection with the fire at the 3rd pct. in Mpls May 28. Police say at the time of Wolfe's arrest, he was wearing a tactical vest with his name written on a piece of duct tape stuck to the back. pic.twitter.com/jk0Lc79ron

Authorities are offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of a man they say set fire to a St. Paul neighborhood school and several businesses recently.

The man was seen starting fires at several locations, including Gordon Parks High School. Authorities did not know where the man lives.

this 'scandal' regarding the MFF is making me actively furious

global tetrahedron, Tuesday, 16 June 2020 15:38 (three years ago) link

if you don't know, people are mad that the Minnesota Freedom Fund, dedicated to posting bail for activists, is getting dragged on all sides for having raised $35m in two weeks, and 'only' having spent 200k so far. people mad about this have literally no idea how anything works and they're carrying water for the far right. the BoD are already getting anti semitic death threats

global tetrahedron, Tuesday, 16 June 2020 15:50 (three years ago) link

Just looked at it on Twitter, and it's so horrifying. Makes me sick seeing that much anti-Semitism in one place.

It's crazy that this is even a remotely successful fake scandal. IT'S A BAIL FUND! It uses money AS NEEDED to bail people out! The scandal would be if they'd somehow spent MORE than was needed for bail over the past two weeks. And they can't even be accused of deliberately collecting more than they needed, because once the donations started flooding in they told people to donate elsewhere and stopped accepting money.

Greetings from CHAZbury Park (Lily Dale), Tuesday, 16 June 2020 22:00 (three years ago) link

otm. I am sick of bad faith scandals like this and they always fucking ALWAYS seem to start with a bunch of idiots on Twitter circle-jerking.

$200,000 spent in two weeks for bail for minor crimes that you get arrested for at protests = still a lot of money spent on bail!

$35 million spent in two weeks = someone at MFF has a coke habit and embezzled the money

Dig Dug the police (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 16 June 2020 22:24 (three years ago) link

I made a Twitter thread just to try get some clarity:

MFF Facebook post from May 29, the day after the police station went up in flames pic.twitter.com/YI94QwRhM3

— Bernard Snowy (@wasntmebro) June 17, 2020

For further context: last night I saw some viral thing on Twitter calling out Black Visions Collective and Reclaim The Block (will look for the tweets in a minute) and saying "lol how convenient that the fake scandal around MFF is sucking up all the oxygen as this is going on...!"

Anyway the content of the tweets was not really important, just a lot of hearsay that I have no reason to credit. Worst case scenario, given those two organizations were signal-boosted by MFF early on, they could just be struggling with a version of the same drinking-from-the-firehose issue. At least one Minnesota ilxor in another thread specifically vouched for Reclaim The Block as a "great org" so I'm not too worried.

handsome boy modelling software (bernard snowy), Wednesday, 17 June 2020 16:19 (three years ago) link

I expect not a single one of those fanning the flames donated one single dollar to any of these organizations.

Dirty Epic H. (Eric H.), Wednesday, 17 June 2020 18:37 (three years ago) link

The idea a nonprofit could get that much money in such a short time and draft any sort of plan or statement of how they’re going to use those funds, when their core group is busy doing their primary task, over the course of several weeks, is an insane expectation

mh, Thursday, 18 June 2020 00:03 (three years ago) link

yeah, seriously. i'm sick of these insta-react scandals

Dig Dug the police (Neanderthal), Thursday, 18 June 2020 00:21 (three years ago) link

Dig Dug the police (Neanderthal), Thursday, 18 June 2020 00:22 (three years ago) link

A lot of the criticism was way overblown, they definitely need to spend some time figuring out how to handle all that money.

I also think this is not an unreasonable demand.

'Community Call' for the @MNFreedomFund to set aside a small percentage of their funds for long-term legal support for all arrestees—even the ones with unsavory charges.
