young, dumb and bustin’ makes me feel good

Considered within the overall sexiness of his oeuvre, this song is clearly about necrophilia

How is this going to be anything other than "Bustin' makes me feel good!"?

"02:34-02:50 drums and stuff + "Lemme tell ya something. Bustin' makes me feel good!"
will win in a landslide, imho

I like the bits where he busts

How is this going to be anything other than "Bustin' makes me feel good!"?

...etc

OK, so, yeah, it's what I'm going for myself as well. I confess I wasn't aware of the universal prevalence of this classic bit.
I do think there are multiple other bits worth of a vote or two. Like the bits that include when he goes 'Ow!'. Or the 'Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!' part. Or the soulful delivery of "Pick up the phone. And call.". The intro. The main themes. The main catchphrase.

I had no idea he was saying 'if you've had a dose of a freaky ghost'! I thought it was something like 'if you have ghosts or a freaky ghost', like he accidentally repeated the line.

Love that bit in the video where Huey’s singing with his head in the sink of iced water

Master of Treacle, Tuesday, 26 May 2020 21:26 (three years ago) link

like he accidentally repeated the line

You may be onto something. If we are to believe "Pop-Up Videos" (and why shouldn't we?), Parker Jr. famously could not think of a rhyme for "Ghostbusters," and so chose to repeatedly rhyme "Ghostbusters" with "Ghostbusters."

Per "Pop-Up Videos," he was... most flustered.

I'm giving it to "sinister opening bit" with "drums and stuff" as the runner-up, which would be a great breakdown even without "bustin makes me".

neil cicierega has proven through science that the answer is a mixture of "horn synth keyboard melody" + "bustin makes me feel good"

feel-good bustin is the safe, solid option but 'I hear it likes the girls' is the connoisseur's choice IMO

3:16 - 3:23 is underrated imho, esp in the vid when RPJr rips off his coat to display his undershirt

great poll

1.

If you've had a dose of a freaky ghost, babyl

^ underrated . the syncopated vocal line and the double-tracked vocals really do it for me

2. the descending progression during horn synth part is great, really adds some depth to the song

3. would vote "peter falk" cameo if i could, the man is just so good

I don't mind if people have bits from the video weigh in on their vote. All part of the experience.
Alternatively, I might see about following this up with a video breakdown poll on ILE. Or is Peter Falk going to walk that as much as Bustin' will do over here?
My fave video bit is probably 01:23 Ray sliding out from under the girl's bed.

Valentijn, Wednesday, 27 May 2020 07:07 (three years ago) link

I had totally forgotten about the cameos so I was quite surprised when Chevy Chase appeared (and for ashort while was trying to remember if he was in the movie) !
I don't think I've watched this video since my childhood, though (and at the time I'm not sure I was familiar with all the actors).
I suppose there's no logic to the cameos except friends popping by.
How I loved this movie as kid. It had the whole package : great movie, great song, great logo !

Agreed about “Ghostbusters” not being his best (if you include his hits with/as “Raydio”), but I only see one of his songs there, the forgettable “I Still Can’t Get Over Loving You”.

(That ONJ’s “Twist Of Fate” is apparently the most forgotten big hit of that particular year is the real travesty imo)

correct winner. kind of feel like it's the only thing that makes the song worthwhile anymore.

Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Tuesday, 2 June 2020 00:06 (three years ago) link

Notable Bustin' victory but nice to see so many different parts got some votes. Slightly disappointed that nobody went for that seductive "If you're all alone, pick up the phone. And call.".

Concerned the horn synth vote will be split

I figured everyone would just go for the first one, but didn't group the three sections together for the possibility of people adding extra value to the timing of the section within the entire song - sometimes I think too much. The votes actually ended up being split: first occurence 3 votes; second 1 vote; third 1 votes.
I suppose it's up to anyone whether to make it 6 votes for the part in their own mind or not. It's the difference between sole third placing or shared with "I can't hear you!".
