Brave look having his personal email on view on his blog imo: https://dominiccummings.com/about/

So Cummings had to stop on his 30 minute drive home from Barnard Castle to let his son have a wee but didn't need to stop once on the five hour journey from London to Durham?

NEW: Prof Chris Whitty and Sir Patrick Vallance left No 10 at approx 1820. Earlier we were told they would be appearing with the PM at the daily press conference. Why did they turn up for the presser and then leave? Have asked No 10 for comment. pic.twitter.com/1rE8H48y5H— Joe Pike (@joepike) May 25, 2020

According to Andrew Bridgen, Dominic Cummings is a key worker. Let's all get out there on Thursday night and give him the applause he deserves!

Killer fact from that is this. The Cummings/Wakefield family ended up in a hospital in Durham - 260m from home. That is precisely the reason the lockdown told people to stay at home if they get sick.So as not to spread the virus around the country.— Prof. Colin Talbot (@colinrtalbot) May 25, 2020

sorry for Twitter
The question isn’t ‘did he stop?’ but ‘would a reasonable person expect not to stop?’ Which, of course, they wouldn’t. Getting lucky with your young child’s bladder doesn’t mean it was a reasonable thing.

Turns out Cummings' wife can drive but she was too busy retweeting #stayhomesavelives during her husband's eye test
And on said birthday (whilst not staying at home) she retweet’s gov advice telling others TOO stay at home pic.twitter.com/5PiW3UKvY7— Paul Simms (@AdrenalinJunky) May 25, 2020

Bridgen explains the Barnard Castle trip by saying that recovery from COVID-91 can affect your judgement. Good job Cummings' eyesight was good enough for him to drive back to London and take up his role in goverment again in that case.

Umm... did they try to announce what can reopen today? Other than lol car showrooms I can’t seem to find anything.
Sorry to post anything other than a Cummings meme. I’ve had 3 different, usually non-political, neighbours WhatsApp groups share memes about how horrible he/Boris is. One group trying really hard to get a #booforboris going on a Tuesday night

booforboris sounds like a terrible idea, yeah

Car showrooms and outdoor markets iirc.

so, back in lockdown by mid-July or are they just gonna throw up their hands and say ‘we tried to warn you, sorry you’re gonna die’ as the bodies pile up again?

Following on from the tweet about the use of Barnard Castle in slang...
https://greensdictofslang.com/entry/4wyllxa
barney n.1[? the holding of dubious sporting events, e.g. bare-knuckle boxing, in or behind the barn, and thus a fig. use of barney n.2 . However, Partridge, quoting Apperson, refers to the phr. come, come, that’s Barney Castle, a response to anyone making a particularly specious excuse. This in turn, it is claimed, refers to the Catholic earls’ Northern Rising of 1569, when Barnard Castle was held by Sir George Bowes who refused, despite many challenges, to leave his fortifications and engage in battle. The ‘Rising in the North’ certainly created the Durham dial. Barnard Castle, a coward, taken from the jibe ‘A coward, a coward, o’ Barney castle/Dare na come out to fight a battle’]

Johnson for some reason is desperate to keep Cummings, lord knows why. The rest I suspect would be happy to throw him in a dumpster to the bottoms of the Tees, though none of them will do anything to rock the boat at the moment.

It depends on whether enough of the country takes a "well, what you can you expect, there's been a global pandemic" line. TBH I think this entire episode has been profoundly unhelpful to that, killing off a lot of the performative Blitz spirit goodwill that the govt had been coasting on, but these things can be pretty difficult to wash away.
― Matt DC, Monday, 25 May 2020 19:52 (three years ago) link
Also Boris Johnson could literally turn up and machine gun a socially-distanced supermarket queue and there would still be a good 30% of the country that would still turn up and faithfully put a cross in the Conservative box.
― Matt DC, Monday, 25 May 2020 19:54 (three years ago) link
This is absolute fanfic, but I wonder if anyone in the cabinet is figuring that the backbenches would be the best place to be for a spell, and "Well, this is absolutely intolerable" would be a decent reason to try this - they'd be betting that even if nothing happens now, there will be a bad by-election in the next few years, and people will be casting around for someone to replace Boris.
― Andrew Farrell, Monday, 25 May 2020 19:56 (three years ago) link
No one in the Cabinet has that kind of backbone.
― Matt DC, Monday, 25 May 2020 19:58 (three years ago) link
xp (no-one else is Boris, and the position described is already occupied by Jeremy Hunt, but this idea doesn't require accurate self-reflection on the part of the cabinet member)
