Second one is Norilsk, too iconic to be anywhere else!
Shall I give the answer to NotLisbonOrIzmir? Or leave it to posterity?
I can't give the answer to ThursdaySkyline because I've forgotten where it is. I might try guess it myself later today

wow, never got even close to any of these, but the single Turkish-type minaret gave me something very concrete to work with: sea port city in a non-muslim country in the Eastern Mediterranean or Black Sea. actually checked and discarded Batumi at first (but of course you wouldn’t pick a photo that displayed the actual city centre) - but when I searched for the minaret-golden onion-shaped dome combination Batumi was the top result, and then that distinctive church tower sealed the deal.

I want to say Kandahar, other than the colouring is maybe too light. The low rise layout points there though

I thought Kandahar straightaway, then had a quick look at first image that came up

but both of these look darker and not as sandy as yours so I wasn't 100 on it but thought it close to enough!

ominous looking and disused Eastern European train station?
― Temporary Erogenous Zone (jim in vancouver), Friday, 21 August 2020 17:21 (three years ago) link
I'm struck by how it's all very clean, with no litter or visible graffiti.
There's some characters/a logo on the modern building in the background on the right hand side of the last photo, but I'm not sure what to make of them - are they Japanese maybe?
Definitely wondering about Asia, but struggling to guess a country even.
― brain (krakow), Friday, 21 August 2020 17:44 (three years ago) link
In the first photo there's a motorway-esque road in the background with green gantry signs, if anyone knows which countries use that colour for those.
There also looks like what could be two flags on the right in front of the road, but sadly no wind to display them. Looks like they might be white and red, maybe blue too? My brain keeps filling them in as British flags, but that seems like nonsense.
― brain (krakow), Friday, 21 August 2020 17:55 (three years ago) link
ah, interesting. seem to be characters that are either not roman (nor Cyrillic) or if they are perhaps with diacritics not usually found in European languages

Lots of clues (poverty, light skin-tones, ex-communist-style architecture) that indicate the poorer parts of Europe or west/central Asia. The most intriguing clue is how flat the landscape is, so most of the Balkans are out. Looks more like the steppes than a littoral, since it is so bereft of vegetation.
