as I've said in the Fahey thread (or maybe I didn't) the song "Statesboro Jam" from global tetrahedron's 2020 album is maybe my favorite song of the year so far, certainly within this general sonic world.

yeah we generally did all this stuff on the Fahey thread, which I generally approve of a "big tent" definition of the diaspora esp cuz so many like Forsyth, Ryley Walker come from that scene orginally

any particular recordings you can recommend, i haven't heard a live version since a radio broadcast from the netherlands in 2011

i am unequipped to really speak on the new jam scene except that i god tried to listen to that song and for the first ten minutes it was mediocre kosmische-jazz and then i got bored and skipped forward and yep that sounds like the dead alright. i guess they're better than the flaming lips.

i'm listening to the eight minute "single" version now. they sound like, i don't know, white denim. they're not bad, but i genuinely think the dead did it better when they were on.

i might be sold on these folks another time.

I actually don't, I have seen them a couple of times in the last 5 years and hadn't seen them for a long time and was kind of blown away by what a good live band they are now

but I guess they've probably done 200+ shows a year forever

Impossible Germany is I'm pretty sure almost every show and is Nel's showcase

last time he was going off and Tweedy got a laugh just by looking Nels then looking at the crowd and grinning and shaking his head like can u believe this guy?

i know Wilco is not cool but they ultimately have one of the best drummers in the world and one of the best guitar players

i know they're not cool too but i have heard them a couple times over the years and i agree with you that they have become a fucking incredible live band, i'd rather listen to them than 75 dollar bill or endless boogie or whoever damn near any day of the week

Rose City Band has such a great vibe, glad that wasn't just a one-off thing for Ripley.

really enjoy the new one, but there's a track on the last half with a riff that sounds like the black keys. small quibble though

haha would that be Reno Shuffle? that's my least favorite one. I love the moment with the vibraslap on the second track.

Other than a couple of tracks I caught on WFMU, haven't actually heard the new one yet - waiting for the delayed physical release next month.

They're great, actually just got a package of CDRs in the mail that I bought on the bandcamp no fee day, includes the new Flow & Heady and a few other live sets.

Dire Wolves is very dynamic rhythmically which gets at something about Garcia Peoples, they are pretty stuff rhythmically without being either cool motorik vibes or cool pummeling caveman Endless Boogie/Crazy Horse

the drums and bass are just kinda "there"

Really excited to hear where they go with this one, given that there are 12 tracks I'm fairly certain they won't be back with another side+ long epic.

Considering the lengths of some of the other albums I've been listening to in 2020, it may be 6 LPs of sidelong epics.

This new one is so good. The first half is surprisingly darker than what I'd expect. Not like they've gone goth or anything, just more of an edge than I'd expect from them, but it works. The guitar playing is just so great.

This is continuing to grow on me, love the instrumental interludes that tie together the suite on the second side. “A Reckoning” is fast becoming a favorite, got a real nice Fairport Convention vibe and love the two guitar acoustic intro.

Really bums me out, they'd been a roll lately with Garcia Peoples of course, but also Tengger, Elkhorn, Kendra Amalie, Matt Valentine and De Lorians, to name a few.

Oh man, I misread this yesterday as a guy leaving the label, not ending the label. This is a bummer! Tengger is my faaaaave...

Yeah, that's what I was hoping it was, but reading through the replies it looks like the label is done, sadly. I guess it makes sense, considering they hadn't announced any forthcoming releases since the last Garcia Peoples record came out last October.

Yeah I noticed after a busy couple years, things seemed to have quieted down quite a bit. Oh well ... it was a good run, and that label in particular did a lot for the indie/psych/jam resurgence.

Dodging Dues, new album due out in January, produced by Matt Sweeney and released by No Quarter since BBiB closed shop.

They are playing in Chicago next weekend (they were actually the last show I saw before the pandemic kicked off) but with an unvaxxed kid at home I'm not ready for an indoor show quite yet. Hopefully they hit the area again on a tour after this comes out.

New one is very very good, tighter and more concise than the stage show, but they still manage to pack so much into every song.

Rather than starting a new thread for an album that maybe only three people will care about, I'm going to bump this to say that fans of Garcia Peoples will probably very much dig the debut full-length from Color Green. The closer, "Blizzed Out" is really great and hits a similar vibe for me. Liking this a lot.
