exactly! that vibe is kind of funny to me when the community is so damn big. I have no doubt that there are AP fans in the middle of nowhere, where they get funny looks from the people in their small town and people are jerks to them and her music and aesthetic are really a respite. I don’t want to take that from them. but when you’re AP, and you’re surrounded by fans, you absolutely do not freak out the people you’re in contact with

Exactly this. AP reminds me of the kids I'd see in college who would walk around wearing some homemade outfit or elaborate costume trying to provoke a reaction. Instead of just being confident in themselves and walking around doing their thing, there was a performative aspect to it where they'd be very forceful in trying to make eye contact and standing directly in your path, hoping to provoke some sort of reaction for the imagined "square" to be put off by the "freak".

He spent months applying for, and being refused, compassionate visas.

The compassionate thing would be to take the kid away from these two narcissists.

I imagine the evaluation process was like "soooo, what was the reason you were separated in the first place?" "I broke a bunch of quarantine laws to get away from my partner and kid" and then raised eyebrows, appeal denied. But on this occasion the reviewer asked who the partner was.
