Is it a Sony memory card?

memory... card?

mh, Thursday, 7 May 2020 17:38 (three years ago) link

if you're really hardcore, early rejecter - you can get a high quality fight stick, and buy a restrictor gate like the ones seen here:
https://focusattack.com/spare-parts-tools/by-part/restrictor-gates/

I don't think there are a lot of sticks these days being sold like that as-is

Nhex, Thursday, 7 May 2020 19:29 (three years ago) link

and yeah I just allow PS+ to backup all my saves

Ghost of Tsushima looks tasty.

once they showed gameplay without the UI turned off it became obvious that it's just an offbrand assassins creed game

i'm thinking hard about going in on sekiro

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Monday, 18 May 2020 18:56 (three years ago) link

i loved sekiro, and once the combat clicks, it’s fantastic, but like all fromsoftware games it is not without its frustrations.

RE2, spiderman, and god of war... in the sale, all for the price of one new game... tempting

All pretty dope, though mixed feelings about GoW. Just finished RE2 today and had a lot of fun with it. Spider-Man the best of the bunch imo.

circa1916, Saturday, 13 June 2020 22:03 (three years ago) link

Spider-Man (as much as I played it) and God of War share a similar button-mashing DNA, I've got to admit. But swinging around the city in Spider-Man is about as good as that sort of thing gets in game.

three weeks pass...

I've just started playing The Outer Wilds. I'm loving it so far.

doorstep jetski (dog latin), Wednesday, 8 July 2020 09:45 (three years ago) link

I literally just looked up which was which, Worlds vs. Wilds, and I already forgot. Is this the looping one?

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 8 July 2020 12:21 (three years ago) link

it's easy - Wilds is the one with the other Worlds, Worlds is the one where you go Wild looking for other Worlds

(Wilds is the 22 minute loop one and is amazing)
(and i have to look it up every single time because i always mix it up too)

time is running out to pitch in $5 (Karl Malone), Wednesday, 8 July 2020 15:39 (three years ago) link

whoever said "the i in wilds stands for indie" fixed this problem for me
i bought wilds and control last night for $35

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 8 July 2020 15:49 (three years ago) link

Wilds is the one that is wildly amazing and innovative
Worlds is the one that is Worldly and like other worldly games, not as innovative

time is running out to pitch in $5 (Karl Malone), Wednesday, 8 July 2020 15:51 (three years ago) link

yes, and the o in worlds stands for Obsidian Entertainment

ciderpress, Wednesday, 8 July 2020 16:00 (three years ago) link

i guess that requires that you know who obsidian are though

ciderpress, Wednesday, 8 July 2020 16:01 (three years ago) link

God yeah, who okayed the fact there are two almost identically-titled space exploration games out in the same year?

doorstep jetski (dog latin), Wednesday, 8 July 2020 16:12 (three years ago) link

yeah, i'm always curious if the two production studios had any communications about that. i'm assuming the pro studio would have sued or something, if they had standing

time is running out to pitch in $5 (Karl Malone), Wednesday, 8 July 2020 16:14 (three years ago) link

Outer Wilds is fab though.

At first I was a bit disappointed by the cartoonish characters, the slightly vectory graphics, fiddly controls and the fact there's no speech, just writing. It does give me the feeling it was all made using the Dreams software package, but this is an indie game after all.

Once it gets going though, all these factors get left behind. It's a really lovely, extremely original game. I'd say the closest thing I can link it to are the old Elite games perhaps.

doorstep jetski (dog latin), Wednesday, 8 July 2020 16:17 (three years ago) link

for the kind of game it is it's a little unforgiving imo. very easy to die, very hard at times to make progress. but yes extremely original, but very fun i just wish i felt inspired to finish/solve it.

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 July 2020 16:21 (three years ago) link

there have been moments when the game seems to suddenly glitch out and send me into a completely different world, or I'll end up suddenly transported into another random spot in space, but I can't work out if it's a mistake or part of the game yet. spent ages trying to use my rocket pack to jump out of water onto a platform

doorstep jetski (dog latin), Wednesday, 8 July 2020 20:58 (three years ago) link

I downloaded NBA 2K20 and COD Warzone this week. A 1TB console can store 7-8 games of that size. Ridiculous.

BRAVE THE AFRIAD (onimo), Wednesday, 8 July 2020 21:18 (three years ago) link

yeah, i have to erase a game before adding a new one 9 times out of 10

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 8 July 2020 21:18 (three years ago) link

Just got a 2TB external and I’m pleased to find that all the games I deleted still have their Save data

wilds was openly in development with that title for years before worlds was announced. and "the outer worlds" is not a remotely good enough name to warrant the inevitable confusion.

this is at least the third time the worlds or wilds conversation has happened on ilx

The Outer Worlds = postmodern satirical AAA RPG where you explore the galaxy
Outer Wilds = Indie action-RPG where you explore the galaxy but only for 22 minutes at a time

doorstep jetski (dog latin), Thursday, 9 July 2020 11:47 (three years ago) link

those really are the same game, dang

Joey Corona (Euler), Thursday, 9 July 2020 12:22 (three years ago) link

I just bought "Wilds" and "Control" (which was 66% off; $20 is my cutoff point for impulse purchases). My 1TB drive is pretty packed, but I figure as I go through titles I can delete them and, should I return to complete more of the games later, just download or install them again. I assume that whether playing from a disc or from a download, my progress is saved on my machine, and that when I reinstall my progress returns with it. Right? So if I uninstall, say, "God of War," where I am hovering around 60% completion, and then reinstall it later, I'll still be at 60%?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 9 July 2020 13:11 (three years ago) link

yeah unless you explicitly delete your saved game data files, all that information will remain when you reinstall your games

Neil S, Thursday, 9 July 2020 13:13 (three years ago) link

yeah saves don't go away unless you go into the system settings somewhere and purge them. i think the sports games are the only ones where that'd even be a consideration because they make huge save files for the simulation stuff

ciderpress, Thursday, 9 July 2020 14:37 (three years ago) link

Thanks. Size of games can be so misleading, especially since game discs still need to download most (all?) data to the drive to play, right?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 9 July 2020 14:51 (three years ago) link

right, running off the disc is too slow for modern games. the disc is basically just a DRM check once you've installed the game

ciderpress, Thursday, 9 July 2020 15:26 (three years ago) link

Just like PC gaming of old. Looks like killing of the physical disc might finally happen this generation for consoles given the new driveless models

Nhex, Thursday, 9 July 2020 17:10 (three years ago) link

I haven't bought a game disc in years. I have maybe three PS4 discs.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Thursday, 9 July 2020 17:14 (three years ago) link

Karl Malone, Thursday, 9 July 2020 17:16 (three years ago) link

I definitely wanted to play something lighter and less intense/gruesome than "Last of Us" next (even though honestly I've been looking forward to "Bloodborne"), but while I was considering a return to "Spider-Man" again, I think I may go for something like ... "Ratchet and Clank," which I know I bought at some point, since iirc people really like, and I've never played in any way shape or form.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 15 July 2020 18:56 (three years ago) link

yes! very fun + light game. i think you'll enjoy it.

Mordy, Wednesday, 15 July 2020 19:02 (three years ago) link

Love all the R&C games - just excellent fun

chonky floof (groovypanda), Wednesday, 15 July 2020 19:51 (three years ago) link

Yes, all good fun, not too hard, and look like they've really pushed the PS2 to its limits (I mean that in a good way).

BRAVE THE AFRIAD (onimo), Thursday, 16 July 2020 12:38 (three years ago) link

I have the version remade for the PS4.

Looking at my future backlog, besides some From stuff and Spider-man, it looks like I have all the Uncharteds, and all the nu Wolfensteins and Tomb Raiders, too (I've never played any version of any of them) so a bunch of interactive movies a la Last of Us. Plus a couple of Resident Evil stress balls, the first couple of Batman games and ... Mad Max! That last one should be fun to play. And I just got Outer Wilds and Control on sale as well, but no hurry there (lol).

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 16 July 2020 13:08 (three years ago) link

I've become a big fan of Outer Wilds. One of these games that etches it's way into my mind. I have started dreaming about it. I think about it while I'm away. But I love how low stakes it is (especially for a game about the END OF THE GALAXY). Very little violence. Lots of exploration. And I can play it for as long as I like thanks to the 22 minute time loop.

doorstep jetski (dog latin), Thursday, 16 July 2020 13:36 (three years ago) link

Mad Max is a fun game as it uses the Batman Arkham fight mechanics which are always good and some of the vehicle weapons are very satisfying. It does include a lot of collecting stuff missions that fill up a whole load of open world games where 20 hour campaign modes turn out to be 15 hours of finding scrap metal - though I suppose that makes more sense in a Mad Max universe than in other games.

BRAVE THE AFRIAD (onimo), Thursday, 16 July 2020 14:05 (three years ago) link

"Ratchet & Clank" may be the literal opposite of "The Last of Us," which is perfect, but ironically more challenging than it should be at first as I adjust to something so low-stakes and goofy.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 17 July 2020 23:51 (three years ago) link

lots of people banging on about ghost of tsushima. any good? or is it just fetch quest central?

doorstep jetski (dog latin), Friday, 24 July 2020 14:45 (three years ago) link

it looks like an offbrand assassins creed game. the standard ubisoft open world formula, despite being by sony and not ubi
