saucerful rules. I like it better than atom heart, more, obscured, etc. I like how the cover of meddle (my fav) is kind of like looking at a region of the saucerful cover through a microscope

always had a major soft spot for "let there be more light" because side 1 of saucerful of secrets is so much better than i was led to believe as a kid the 'early stuff' is post-syd

I first heard Cluster One years after the album came out and found it quite moving - like, it’s pretty second-rate, but after the overblown & vibe-free Momentary Lapse era just hearing them play like they were listening to one another was really nice.

Having said that, I voted for Atom Heart Mother.

was robyn hitchcock's solo piano "astronomy domine" linked on here? or was that just on tyler w's blog? anyway at this point in his career he's probably played it more times than pink floyd... i have a good tape of the soft boys doing it with gilmour on guitar as well.

Actually, the first song on The Wall is "Outside the Wall," though it's not listed first.

My initial thought was "One of These Days" but, even though it's by no means a favourite track of mine, "Astronomy Domine" is just such a brilliant way to start an album - and a career.

Astronomy Domine is one of the greatest songs of all time so this is an easy one for me. The way it basically invented space rock buys still totally rocks. The guitar is just killer.

The Ummagumma version of Astronomy Domine is so fucking great.

If you're counting Shine On You Crazy Diamond parts II through V as part of the opener, it's this definitely.
