Physical > Levitating > Pretty Please (terrific bassline) is a sublime sequence. Prefer it by a wide margin to the debut. If she named it Bangerville it wouldn't have been arrogant.

"Levitating" has become my favorite. What a jam. I dance to it in my isiolation.

I know Dedicated was well-liked in these parts, but this album gives me the feeling I was hoping to get from that album. I caught the White Town sample but didn't notice the INXS interpolation. Guess I'll just listen to the whole album again

I somehow missed it before but I would like to belatedly agree with jed_'s sentiments regarding the BBC Hallucinate mashup

I find sean evans to be not a very good youtuber at all but was extremely impressed by how well Dua was able to tolerate all the sauces on Hot Ones this week

I've seen a few of those over the years, and anecdotally I feel that women handle the hot sauces better than men do.

Halle berry the GOAT, though Paul Rudd and Michael Cera also did quite well iirc

Her singing is competent, but lacking in personality (she sounds bored). The music is mostly polite, generic dance-pop. The White Town sample is distracting, as samples of well-known songs can be. I like what “Break My Heart” does with the INXS melody.

i'm not satisfied by the dialogue i've seen about dua lipa, maybe i just haven't found the good stuff. nothing is good at describing how successfully she occupies this space of having been around the block re: love and relationships but maintaining this clear line from what she knows is real love to how it may or may not play out for her. the register of her voice, the craft of the songs all highlight this appeal. when people accuse it of being generic i think they .. aren't available for this kind of direct, concise, surprisingly deep and worldly discourse on love from a contemporary pop star. she has been very good and successful and convincing at giving us variations on this not generic but general theme. i have a hard time thinking of pop stars who i can satisfactorily compare her to for this reason.

it occurred to me that she's like if Amy Winehouse wasn't reactionary, a la "oh contemporary pop music is so bad, I want to sound like when it was so pure" etc etc… it so happens that her voice is very similar to AW's, but it is used atop state of the art pop stylings…

dua lipa is fine. I'm a little suspicious of how pop stars are rewarded commercially and sometimes critically for having very manicured, "always on", don't-rock-the-boat personas (the recent twitter thing an amusing aberration) but she's got a bunch of jams it would be silly to deny

Featuring actual pop star Madonna ( I misunderstood and thought she was being referred to as Blessed) also featuring Missy E but there other person in that pictorial collage is not Missy.

Will definitely check this out because I’m a big fan of Future Nostalgia (album of the year so far), but that heavily-hyped “Levitating” remix with Madonna and Missy was absolute trash.
