I don’t listen to the podcast, but the subreddit has gone way crazier way faster than I expected. They’re already deep into “ironic” pro-Trump posting

― Dan I., Thursday, April 9, 2020 4:14 PM (forty minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

?? i see one post there from a british person making an obvious joke

they're joking about "a vote for x is a vote for trump", i don't see anyone actually saying they're pro-trump

the subreddit is also hated and disavowed by the actual chapos

and the actual anti-idpol subs hate it for being pro-idpol lol

ffs i don't even listen to this podcast don't make me post here

They’ve never had the Red Scare people on, they have had numerous trans guests, POC guests, labor and community organizers...

It seems like the main requirement for criticism is still to not have actually listened to the podcast.

reality disliker (Left), Thursday, 9 April 2020 21:19 (four years ago) link

i've also seen enough of their online conduct to know what they're about

reality disliker (Left), Thursday, 9 April 2020 21:20 (four years ago) link

out of curiosity i found a thread at an actual left anti-idpol sub and there was 1 whole poster saying they'd vote for trump. i figured there'd be more accelerationists at least

I've never been able to get past the rampant disablism of these arseholes meself. And their podcasts are shite!

steve bannon went on red scare this week!

treeship., Thursday, 9 April 2020 22:03 (four years ago) link

lol nevermind this was discussed.

treeship., Thursday, 9 April 2020 22:05 (four years ago) link

:O

I kind of want to listen to that. Kind of suggests he's not at the height of his influence though.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Thursday, 9 April 2020 22:06 (four years ago) link

i listened to it.

bannon was praising ocasio-cortez a lot and said the future was "left populism" vs. "right populism" and it wasn't clear yet "who had the better answers" for "the little guy." the hosts lightly pushed back against bannon's support of aoc. then they argued with him about employer-based healthcare. then at the end they told him they loved his style and that the multiple layered shirts was an attractive look.

treeship., Thursday, 9 April 2020 22:11 (four years ago) link

sounds about right

brechtian social distancing (Simon H.), Thursday, 9 April 2020 22:12 (four years ago) link

dasha (the one that was a sailor meme before she was a podcast host) at one point lightly questioned trump's racist appeals and bannon said his usual thing, that what matters is that you're a "citizen" blah blah "economic nationalism." it was a very predictable episode.

oh yeah, also, bannon thinks that the virus might have leaked from the virology lab in Wuhan.

treeship., Thursday, 9 April 2020 22:13 (four years ago) link

bannon is surprisingly ingratiating when he talks, constantly praising liberals and leftists and looking for common ground with his interlocutors. I've noticed this before. it's an act i guess?

treeship., Thursday, 9 April 2020 22:16 (four years ago) link

were anna and dasha actually pro-AOC? i thought they despised her

℺ ☽ ⋠ ⏎ (✖), Thursday, 9 April 2020 22:20 (four years ago) link

no, they were against aoc. bannon was for aoc.

lol.

treeship., Thursday, 9 April 2020 22:21 (four years ago) link

like, he didn't agree with her, but he like the idea of "millennial candidates" coming up through the "grassroots."

one point that should have been asked, but wasn't, was whether bannon still supported the "deconstruction of the administrative state." it was exactly that philosophy that led to trump firing the pandemic response team in 2018.

treeship., Thursday, 9 April 2020 22:22 (four years ago) link

have they had richard spencer yet

Pakman had Spencer on a couple of years ago, it was pretty good. I've only ever seen Pakman and Gary Younge interview Spencer

Has Felix's sister ever been on an episode before? I'm cracking up at how they start sounding like each other as the dialogue goes on

mh, Tuesday, 14 April 2020 19:57 (four years ago) link

I've not really listened to Chapo or similar that much so I may have this wrong, but how does this Dirtbag Left fit alongside the Populist Berniebro Left of Krystal Ball, Kyle Kulinski et al. There seem some parallels but Krystal, Kyle and others seem to make a point of speaking in very everyday terms, not defining as socialist. Are the chapo people further left, or is it just a case of presentation?

anvil, Tuesday, 14 April 2020 21:17 (four years ago) link

idk where those people stand but the CTH posse identify as socialists and their live events tend to have DSA recruitment people canvassing the entrance

The more I learn about the Chapo hosts and the timeline of the podcast, the more it seems to me like Amber and Virgil were brought on to do the work of appealling/signalling to an alt-right-adjacent troll audience so the original hosts could pretend their hands were clean.

afaik there was some comedy event he did 7 years ago where a comedian who is now an alt-right guy did some edgelord bullshit, this is the main evidence that he’s a secret fascist.

JoeStork, Wednesday, 22 April 2020 23:04 (four years ago) link

oh i was there. bad night

if anyone wants reasons to write off the chapos just direct them to the much more problematic early episodes, that doesn't require knowledge of a 7-y/o standup event

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Wednesday, 22 April 2020 23:55 (four years ago) link

If you dare expose yourself to the vile, uncensored horror of men occasionally talking over their female guests

The Mandymoorian (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 23 April 2020 00:07 (four years ago) link

Virgil’s been going through a juul pod per hour for the last year, can’t imagine why he’d need a break

Feels like a lot of people want to trash Red Scare but they're not actually well known enough to get a tweet trending.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Thursday, 23 April 2020 00:52 (four years ago) link

i think Dasha is more known for being interviewed by InfoWars dressed as a schoolgirl or whatever than the podcast is.

Corduroy Stridulations (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Thursday, 23 April 2020 04:50 (four years ago) link

Don't let brad see this sailor moon erasure

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Thursday, 23 April 2020 04:53 (four years ago) link

there seems to be a camp of listeners that see CTH and a raft of other podcasts (Street Fight, etc) as kind of a leftist listening enterprise with commentary on political media and grassroots advocacy that works against the stereotype of a bunch of brooklyn-based podcasters in a scene that has a lot of bickering

honestly, I can't keep track of the latter situation at all
