I managed to get my first few star fragments, the process is sort of awful because you need to look up and press A when you hear the quiet jingle that a shooting star makes, you really don't get much time to do it and YOU NEED EMPTY HANDS or else the "wishing on a star" thing doesn't trigger. Which means trying to listen out for these and react to them as you're going about your normal fishing/bug catching business isn't an option really, if you've got a rod or a net equipped when you hear that jingle, chances are you'll have missed it by the time you've put your tool away.

Feels instead like you need to make a point of aimlessly strolling around while you wait for these to trigger, which just isn't much fun.

yeah I had celeste in my town the other night, saw a few shooting stars drop but couldn't trigger the wish animation so just gave up. lame

wishing on shooting stars is easy. when you see one, press down on the d-pad to put your tool away, tilt the camera up to the sky, and wait for more shooting stars because whenever one goes by there will be several more coming soon after

Also you can't wish if you aren't standing - I was sitting on the bench in the plaza through a bunch of them. Can you make stuff from the fragments or are they not worth hoarding in storage? I also got some fragments of Aries and now want an ACNH/Katamari mashup.

you can use them to make a wand that lets you change outfits anywhere. i'm not sure if there's anything else you can make with them. they glow and look cool in your house

you can just take a time out and stare up at the sky for like 5 minutes and "wish" on like 30 of them. they're super common when it's one of those nights.

I got a recipe for an aries Rocking horse thingy from Celeste which you can use them for, guessing there'll be 12 of those through the year.

Didn't realise they came in batches, that's good to know. I've tried the "look up for 5 mins" thing many times though without seeing anything until last night (when celeste was visiting, as it happens - is she the trigger for high frequency shooting stars?)

I have yet to see any shooting stars, despite multiple clear nights, lovely full moons and a celeste visit. I dont play at night much, maybe I'm not being patient.

If you stand staring at the sky is it pointless? I guess I was thinking lilke botw where that guarantees you seeing one. Ive had better luck with the stars in new leaf than in this!

Doing the fishing tourney today. Not sure if worth it so far - its not like the old version where you could game it by sniping at 5 mins to 6 with a giant eel or whatever. This ones a timed event (like the old island comps used to be). So far all Ive won is my own fish esky :/

I didnt persist with the fishing tourney as much as I shouldve - missed out on getting any trophys. I did get the cooler, doorplate and tackle bag.

Now I'm onto egg day! I have ONE more recipe to craft that I dont own. I guess I have to wait for it to show up in a balloon at this point? Ugh. Oh and all the extra eggs? All they seem to result in is you give them to him and he makes egg baskets. Thats it. They do sell for 1200 bells though.
