a race themed mario wld be sick where like the mario cart crew are doing a season but then they have to have an adventure........idk just spitballin

lag∞n, Friday, 3 April 2020 19:12 (four years ago) link

my ideal mario wld have the speed/movement of 64 w the graphics and creativity of the newer 3d ones

3D world is kinda like that, its got the long jumps, wall kicks, backflips and all that

frogbs, Friday, 3 April 2020 19:14 (four years ago) link

yeah i havent played that one or galaxy 2 hope they come 2 switch

lag∞n, Friday, 3 April 2020 19:18 (four years ago) link

a thorough remastering of 64 w new levels also shd happen

lag∞n, Friday, 3 April 2020 19:19 (four years ago) link

eh it's not really Nintendo's thing to add new levels to old games, as awesome as that would be

frogbs, Friday, 3 April 2020 19:22 (four years ago) link

they did it for the ds port

lag∞n, Friday, 3 April 2020 19:23 (four years ago) link

you can't judge SMM2 on the story mode alone. It would be lame to choose Big Ones as your favorite Aerosmith album. But what if the release of Big Ones included all of the tracks, time sliced, allowing you to make your own Even Bigger Ones.

Nudeln und Klopapier Gore (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 3 April 2020 19:38 (four years ago) link

its nuts they haven't done a bunch of DLC for that game yet

frogbs, Friday, 3 April 2020 20:01 (four years ago) link

I'm interested in playing the Galaxy ones but I tried them on the Wii U and they were too hard for me. Kept running out of lives and having to start worlds over until I gave up.

DJI, Friday, 3 April 2020 20:03 (four years ago) link

just

re slog: i felt exactly the same way on the first playthrough, and to some extent the second, but every time i play it i love it more. now i’m somewhere in the teens and i completely lose myself in it. easily the highest replay value of any game i’ve played in years.

re moon currency: utterly otm. it doesn’t feel much like an achievement when you kick a rock MOON, headbutt a seed MOON, walk past a doorway MOON, walk two feet for no reason MOON, blink MOON, and then the difference between 673 moons and 687 moons is essentially negligible.

I may be overrating 64 tbh

idk, I just looked through the list of levels and had some fond memories but also memories of frustration. Which is the hardest Mario, btw? My vote is easily SMW2, the normal game was hard enough, getting 100 on every level to unlock the bonus stages was very difficult, and then, the bonus stages themselves? HA impossible

The hardest levels I can think of on a Mario game (Lost Levels aside) are the airship in SMB3 world 8 (I'd always P-wing it), Tubular in SMW, the Poochie bonus stage in SMW2, and I have a vague memory of something in Galaxy involving Luigi and a huge airship as being insanely difficult, Galaxy was hard, I remember

Sunshine space levels def up there

Nhex, Friday, 3 April 2020 22:56 (four years ago) link

i dont remember going to space

lag∞n, Friday, 3 April 2020 23:10 (four years ago) link

the old 2d marios are definitely the hardest. 64 probably the hardest 3d one in the normal levels, the postgame challenge levels in the newer ones are harder though

ciderpress, Friday, 3 April 2020 23:22 (four years ago) link

i meant.. subspace

Nhex, Saturday, 4 April 2020 00:42 (four years ago) link

i mightve not finished it

too much cleaning its like when they made that movie abt inventing a mop

lag∞n, Saturday, 4 April 2020 00:46 (four years ago) link

it was actually an origin story for the guy that looked at a butterfly and saw a horse

Nudeln und Klopapier Gore (Sufjan Grafton), Saturday, 4 April 2020 01:08 (four years ago) link

i love that movie da butterfly effect starring ashton kutcher sick shit but it also makes you think

― silby

the internet of course is already on this

Kate (rushomancy), Saturday, 4 April 2020 02:14 (four years ago) link

sunshine = mario 65
galaxy = mario 66
galaxy 2 = mario 67
odyssey = mario 68

we're all on the edge of our seats for the next 3d one

ciderpress, Saturday, 4 April 2020 03:02 (four years ago) link

3d land = 67.5
3d world = 67.75

I may be overrating 64 tbh

no way, the amount of effort they went into designing sheer joy of moving and inhabiting environments in 64 is still stunning

sunshine = mario 65
galaxy = mario 66
galaxy 2 = mario 67
odyssey = mario 68

we're all on the edge of our seats for the next 3d one

idk I'm lying on my side, makes extended gameplay easier

cool video about a SM64 speedrunning glitch that shaves a full minute off your time (skipping the carpet in Rainbow Ride), with the caveat that it's nearly impossible to do. "nearly" being the key word here. the mechanics of this are insane

frogbs, Thursday, 16 April 2020 16:30 (four years ago) link

you can skip to 5:20 if you just wanna see it done

frogbs, Thursday, 16 April 2020 16:35 (four years ago) link

This game is nice but people were talking about it in the same ... sentence ... as Zelda and I think that's misleading. Planning to sue.

lukas, Thursday, 16 April 2020 17:02 (four years ago) link

i enjoyed it more than zelda but its not particularly comparable in any way other than being a nintendo switch game?

ciderpress, Thursday, 16 April 2020 17:57 (four years ago) link

Well it was sort of "these are the two essential games", I interpreted this in a way that was harmful to me and my enjoyment of Odyssey, the end

lukas, Thursday, 16 April 2020 18:04 (four years ago) link

yeah, i know what you mean. they are often compared to each other in terms of just overall quality/fun, and although i like odyssey a lot it's not on the same level as BotW

let me be your friend on the other end! (Karl Malone), Thursday, 16 April 2020 18:05 (four years ago) link

100% agreed, but if you own a Switch this should be the second game you buy for sure

Nhex, Thursday, 16 April 2020 18:08 (four years ago) link

there's enough good switch games now that i wouldn't try to call anything an essential. two years ago it would have been more accurate

ciderpress, Thursday, 16 April 2020 18:09 (four years ago) link

like animal crossing and smash are gonna be easily more essential than both of those for various sects of people

ciderpress, Thursday, 16 April 2020 18:10 (four years ago) link

ok, Smash I'll give because it is like the ur-version of all Smashes combined
Animal Crossing seems pretty incremental compared to older versions, but i haven't looked too deep into the new version

Nhex, Thursday, 16 April 2020 18:24 (four years ago) link

100% agreed, but if you own a Switch this should be the second game you buy for sure

see, i don't know about that! that might be true for some people, but i don't think true for most people

let me be your friend on the other end! (Karl Malone), Thursday, 16 April 2020 18:30 (four years ago) link

it's-a-Nintendo! it's-a-Mario! come on now

Nhex, Thursday, 16 April 2020 18:39 (four years ago) link

for real, that is a very good and compelling point! haha. i mean, that's why it was the second game i bought! i knew i was going to play it, i just had to go ahead and knock it out.

one month passes...

The RC car operator is the only human Mario can capture in Super Mario Odyssey. Normally, he is only seen from behind during this. However, by precisely positioning Mario beforehand, there are a few frames where is possible to get a closer look at the man's face while captured. pic.twitter.com/Dz6enn1o6U
