It feels from this music--maybe not actually true in the scenes, I can't speak to that--like all the "fusion" vs. "trad" vibes from the late 70s/80s in Jazz have dissipated in this younger generation. Like, they just take it all--all the best stuff from wherever, including outside of Jazz, and bring it all together. Music for your head AND your heart, your body AND your soul, no more "or".

Also, this music feels collective-oriented--nobody stepping to the front for their bars while the others vamp along. Even when somebody is "soloing," the sum total of all the music retains primacy--very little "showing off" in other words. I love that.
