A PS4 Thread: Because You Had to Play "Knack"

another cool thing - i really like this minimal interface. i've seen this attempted in other games, but for this i feel like i'm actually MOVING my hands, like i am controlling my hands directly. not just the general hand movement, but the fingers, the knuckles, everything. it's really intuitive. and it's not just a graphics trick - it actually affects the whole way you approach the game, the things that you can do. earlier today i pushing a glass of milk down the hallway. then i realized - i can wrap my fingers around it and squeeze, and just carry it down the hall instead. i saved like 2 minutes that way, and was left with much more of the milk than i usually get by pushing it. the pace is still the weirdest thing about the game. i'm prepared to say that i like it, and i would not have said that when i first started. but it does have a kind of rhythm to it. the day/night cycle lines up with real life, like animal crossing

you can do other cool things with the glass of milk like throw it at your roommate. actually the physics are really good if you can pickup your roommate you can throw them too and the environment reacts accordingly to what you'd expect throwing 180lbs into a wall or a couch or whatever afaict it doesn't mechanically do anything or unlock any achievements

The DualSense iterates on its predecessors by introducing a new haptic feedback system, adaptive triggers for the L2 and R2 buttons, a built-in microphone array, and a new ‘Create’ button in place of the ‘Share’ button from the DualShock 4. i presume you can turn off the microphone. what a nightmare to have voice chat on EVERY GAME

every time any of the console makers change their controller i have to worry that they've made something that's not comfortable for my giant hands. the current gen ones are all ideal

The current controllers are great, except they keep breaking down for me. My original one has phantom R2 inputs and generally unresponsive, and on the newer one the down button only works about 1/10th of the time. This makes for a fun challenge in Dark Souls 3, where I never know if I'll be able to change consumable items or not.

Admittedly, this is probably related to the fact that I now mostly play while I'm on the stationary bike, with sweaty hands. :/

oh yeah one of my 2 DS4s has a bad stick. but at least it doesn't cramp my hands up

PS plus giveaway this month is Uncharted 4 which I've already played to death years ago and Dirt Rally 2 in which you need to connect to a game server in career mode and the servers don't work. So I've basically spent hours downloading a title screen and an options menu.

Journey - I've been Journey curious for a while now so I'll play through today
Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection - same thing they gave away with PS+ a couple of months back. Pretty decent remake and polish that improved the combat and graphics but it's Uncharted and generally not for ILGers

Journey is lovely and only takes a few hours to play through. it's really something though

I've been playing Uncharted 2 these last few days; a little goes a long way, because the dialogue is terrible even by video game standards, but it's pretty enough and as close to watching tv as I'm gonna get.

Started Death Stranding two nights ago. So far I’ve carried some stuff

i haven't played death stranding in 3 days and I keep saying 'i don' feel like hiking tonight'. I get anxiety about the rain!

I had quite a good time playing through Journey while half baked this afternoon. Lovely experience.

Journey is beautiful and I cried at the end but it's not exactly fun.

Yerac, yeah you have to keep on keeping on. sometimes it does feel like 'ugh I have to get up and go to work today'. it really ramps up around chapter 4 though

I think I had the most fun in Chapter 3 - that's the really long chapter right? I'm addicted to building roads and that one felt like I had the most freedom to just grind on that

I still don't know whether I would like to play Death Stranding. I have not played a Metal Gear game since the first one on NES a million years ago, and I did not understand that game at all, neither how to play nor "what it all meant". This one seems like that too? Like, I've read all your writing on this, and read other writing on it, and I can't tell if it sounds fun. and maybe...that's the real game?

I played the original MGS on the NES too and it was like nothing else and had some memorable moments ... so I’m hoping DS does too.

death stranding definitely ticks both those boxes

there has been twice now where I got attacked by BTS and I totally got stuck up against a mountain/hill. Like I couldn't go anywhere so had to go back to a saved point. I don't know if that was a bug or what. Also I have trouble finding places to put ladders.

yeah the reason I've spent so long on DS is through road building addiction

it is definitely 'deliberately a pain in the arse' but once you get the hang of it, very little of it feels illogical or unfair

when I get stuck in the sludgie the whale my spouse becomes a total backseat hiker and gets all stressed out. Emotions have been running high!

Game definitely becomes more manageable when you attune to it and more tools are open up, but yeah, the stress factor is almost comical when you’re trudging through tar and demon arms are ripping cargo off of you while a baby is crying in your face. Like Kojima thought “hey, let’s combine several nightmare scenarios into one here.”

But the joy of taming the wilderness pioneer-like is so so good.

The baby crying out of the controller speaker was definitely unexpected. This was also when I first discovered there is a speaker there
