Jeff Goldblum: I like to look at #jeffgoldblum on Instagram, which my wife makes fun of. And then I take pictures of the things that interest me. [Pulls out his phone] There are many paintings and pictures of me, some nice and some very primitive and bad. People get tattoos of my face. This is me in a banana split, where I’m the center of a dessert. People made a balloon out of me…very nipply. Quite nipply. This is me in Earth Girls Are Easy. This is a stupid shot of me on a pool table. Here’s the painting Wes Anderson gave me after Life Aquatic that he commissioned [pictured above]. You see why my wife says, “Cut it out.”
if i was jeff goldblum this is probably what i'd do tbh

I went through a period of my life where I really couldn't stand Jeff Goldblum, but I think it might have been Goldblum saturation. You don't want too much Goldblum in your film, just the right amount.

More to the point, a slow-building tide of stories about Goldblum -- I've noticed scattershot comments over the past couple of years -- is reaching a crescendo; a slew of threads and comments today from a variety of figures. Roxane Gay shared a second hand note a couple of weeks ago, and Nicole Cliffe's thread a few weeks back is worth noting:
oh boy did I come home to a lot of emails from women w J*ff Goldblum stories— Nicole Cliffe (@Nicole_Cliffe) October 16, 2019
Along with her follow-up thread today:
The Woody Allen thing sucks, but I want to make sure you know that it is NOT what brought JG on my radar, that was two *very* emotional women last time I was in Los Angeles, followed by a lot of private correspondence when I mentioned it publicly.— Nicole Cliffe (@Nicole_Cliffe) November 7, 2019

I don't understand the Jeff Goldblum *thing*. Like, he was good in The Fly, he was funny in The Tall Guy, he was a diversion in Jurassic Park (in that he kept you from realizing what a piece of shit you were watching until it was over), he was competent in Invasion of the Body Snatchers (a very good movie that he did nothing to fuck up)...but this idea that there's something innately cool, or funny, or smart, or sexy about him? It's fucking baffling.

― ت (jim in vancouver), Friday, 8 November 2019 00:13 (four years ago) link
I don't understand the Jeff Goldblum *thing*.
He's essentially a comedic actor with a relatively small bag of acting tricks, but with good timing and delivery. As a 'dramatic' actor, he has a nice, light touch, but he is not in his proper element. His characters, no matter how central to the plot, are always throwaways or lightweights. He'd make a very amusing Hamlet, but the story would cease to be a tragedy, because he'd be much too shallow to be tragic. He'd be an impossibly bad King Lear.
