Who's going to be coming round to check if you have a TV in the next eighteen months though?

been down with what i assume is covid the last six days. the fever was a motherfucker, the cough isn't fun, and i'm pretty wiped out. but i think it's on it's way out now.

yeowch! must be a relief to be on the other side though?

ymo sumac (NickB), Tuesday, 17 March 2020 18:01 (four years ago) link

It is, though there's the still the fear that maybe I had an unrelated flu and still have Covid awaiting me (not been tested, no real way to get tested). But yeah, glad that I'll be able to do food-shopping etc in the coming weeks without worrying about infecting anyone.

Pinche Cumbion Bien Loco (stevie), Tuesday, 17 March 2020 18:55 (four years ago) link

glad you're feeling better. The world's your oyster now (post testing)

stet, Tuesday, 17 March 2020 21:16 (four years ago) link

yes, glad you're on the mend, hope your recuperation continues smoothly

I feel like if I'm not in a vulnerable group I shouldn't be using up one of those precious slots I should be out there in our 'rona-ridden meanstreets, right?

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 26 March 2020 15:25 (four years ago) link

useful to know abt if yr house is infection-compromised, otherwise probably yes, yr advised method of delivery is shanks and his pony

Eater London is trying to keep an up to date list of food delivery places listed here:

https://london.eater.com/maps/best-takeaway-restaurant-delivery-london-west

Fizzles, Sunday, 29 March 2020 12:16 (four years ago) link

and here for shops:

https://london.eater.com/2020/3/25/21193614/best-food-shops-london-bread-wine-meat-fish

inevitably they change quite rapidly but it may be a useful reference.

Crossposting from one of the other covid threads:

For any ilxors in or around Peckham/Camberwell, a local company (Smith & Brock) who usually supply restaurant fruit and veg are doing home deliveries now with about a week's lead time and are really good, and not nearly as expensive as Natoora:

https://www.knock-knock-groceries.com

Also Monty's deli are delivering salt beef/pastrami etc. every Tuesday.

https://www.montys-deli.com/shop

And I just found out Beigel Bake on Brick Lane have their own app now and will deliver basically anywhere in London, though they aren't currently operating 24/7 which seems reasonable.

speaking of which, don’t know whether anyone else here subscribes to jonathan nunn’s new newsletter, Vittles, but the instagram account of @newgatestudio in angel has been a revelation. believe from her instagram Coco does limited pick-ups and takeaways at the moment? i’m a little unclear what though.

Coco was born in Guangzhou in the south of China, one of the world’s great food cities, and the way she cooks is very much informed by her time there although she says her food now is “neither east nor west”. She calls them “odd little creations”. She never went to cooking school and feels that she communicates with her food better than she does with words, although I love how these recipes have been laid out and the language she uses to talk about how she cooks

re-upping this for ppl who have questions or ideas abt non-supermarket delivery and how to find out abt it

some ideas follow tim's post on this thread: rona moved in: ilx0rs with the bug report on their progress

I just tried knock knock but I’m outta their zone

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 11 April 2020 14:57 (four years ago) link

ok i dug up some possibilities (i have tried none of these but various friends suggested them):

Crosstown
Dishpatch
HG Walter
Jaguar shoes
Natoora
Pale green dot

If none of those come up trumps it’s probably worth a trawl through this list - loads of different NCG suppliers covering loads of different postcodes each.

supermarket slot metasearch here:

https://shoppingslot.co.uk/

i don’t know how *actually* useful it is, as i just searched and for every supermarket it said “sorry no slots currently available” but i guess it might be worth checking you save time?

five months pass...

my NHS covid app beeped this at me "POSSIBLE COVID EXPOSURE. Verifying exposure info. The app has accessed the date, duration and signal strength of the exposure" -- but when i open the app i can't find any details of what it's talking about. (I haven't left the house since yesterday and no one's been here.)

seems like something JOHN LANCHESTER shd write a bad sort story abt

mark s, Thursday, 8 October 2020 10:35 (three years ago) link

it's this apparently: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-54389083

(tho my alert is still there in my alerts, so it didn't vanish)

mark s, Thursday, 8 October 2020 10:36 (three years ago) link

(sorry this is probably the wrong thread, i don't need soup)

mark s, Thursday, 8 October 2020 10:36 (three years ago) link

go to your phone settings, then Exposure Notifications.. maybe something there? there's a link to 'View Exposures in App'

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 8 October 2020 11:14 (three years ago) link

no, nothing there except my various preferences settings (all clicked to YES SEND ME EVERYTHING lol)

mark s, Thursday, 8 October 2020 11:17 (three years ago) link

My phone’s too old for the app and I confess I’m a bit relieved.

this happened to me as well. got a notification which i saw at two in the morning when i couldn't sleep, clicked on it, notification vanished, and took me into the app where there was no notification. presumably some bit of metadata in the background triggered the notification but doesn't surface anything in the UI.
