what's great about the 1877 one is that in order to mass manufacture cylinders a band would have to re-record the same song every single time for each copy. so in a sense, there really ARE all those outtakes, probably!

Makes me wonder who the Johnny Rotten of the late 1800s was? And how Scott Joplin would look with a mohican.

BUMP

(I'm working on getting out copies of 1978, 1988, and 1991 to those of you. Sorry for straggling)

Mainly, I'm beginning work on the site (now that I'm on vacation). I wouldn't expect anything for a while here, but for those of you who asked to do a year and haven't gotten it done yet (*AHEM* various 60s years, 1971, 1974, 1975, 1983, etc.) and still want to, I'd start now. Because once the site is up, submissions from the public for any year will be allowed, and this means whoever gets the comp for an undone year done first gets the first slot (i.e. has the default page for that year.) First come, first serve.

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 11 April 2004 04:02 (twenty years ago) link

To clarify: I will still give the default page for a given year to the person who originally requested it if he/she gets it done by "then" (i.e. when the site is ready... i'll be giving warnings here for sure), since he/she originally asked for it. But after the site is up and is ready for public consumption, the race begins for any undone years. (and anyone who wants to a CDRGO for any year he or she chooses can start at any time)

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 11 April 2004 04:07 (twenty years ago) link

haha! i just picked this up to work on it again this week! ('59)

ok, so i'm resuming work on cdrgo.org. it will be a while, but at this rate, if anyone has gone AWOL on an unfinished year for CDR Go!, I kinda reserve the right to reassign the year to anyone else at this point, since it's been a while.. unless you can tell me that you've done enough work to warrant finishing it...

(Note: I'm willing to help collaborate with anybody if they're stragglin')

That McCoy Tyner album's pretty good.

OR YOUR YEAR WILL GO TO SOMEONE ELSE!

(I'll leave Elvis and Daddino alone, since he just finished 1967; and he just started 1975 -- respectively.)

and the reason for the call for stragglers is that i've actually been getting a lot of outside interest in the site actually running.. that is outside this forum.... believe it or not. todd swiss (eliti), Friday, 13 August 2004 05:33 (nineteen years ago) link

If anyone wants to do the cover image for my 1987 disc, please go right ahead.

I'd like a sort of cartoon-y collage design - reflecting the title and (my perception anyway) the diversity of new music at the time. I have in mind the sort of designs that ethan used to do so well. But hey, do whatever you want - I'm crap at art so whatever you come up with is bound to be an improvement on anything I could do.

Okee, let's sort all of this out...

Geeta gracefully handed me 1983, and I'm almost done with it.. early December is the going street date.

1975 is getting there via Daddino (and rumor has it it's a two-disker)

Jeff W is doing 1971 (and Broheems has apparently gone totally AWOL)

Matos is doing a 1966 as well. (Sarah did the first one)

Thomas Submeat did a 1986 as well as Ott's orig.

Who
what
where
else?

I redid '72, what with there being almost no reggae on the original (and also no Foghat), plus I picked the wrong Bowie and T. Rex tracks first time around. And if the endlessly-passed hot potato that is 1971 somehow slips outta Jeff's hands, IT IS MINE I CLAIM IT FOR ME NOW

MC Transmaniacon (natepatrin), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 04:45 (nineteen years ago) link

Or I could do an alternate like I did for Matos' '70, but I doubt I could adhere to the "do not repeat songs" clause this time around.

How's the site coming, anyways? If you still need me to write something I can get around to that pretty shortly.

MC Transmaniacon (natepatrin), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 04:50 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm doing 1983 and it will be done sometime by early December, if not sooner. I'm working on the artwork this weekend. It will be "V"-rific.

People doing the same year is fine, of course. Both Jeff W and Nate can do '71, etc. etc. etc. (That's my birthyear, yo, so I'll be paying extra attention to that one.)

donut christ (donut), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 08:42 (nineteen years ago) link

Dear Donut:

Please include every single track from the Scarface OST.

Sincerely,

MC Transmaniacon (natepatrin), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 12:54 (nineteen years ago) link

I started working on 1983 a while ago (for personal use really, as I'm a semi-lurker round here), but never got round to finishing it off. I'm v. interested in seeing how dc's differs from mine. If they're significantly different, I might get round to finishing mine off and posting it.

Thomas Inskeep (submeat), Sunday, 20 March 2005 01:44 (nineteen years ago) link

Can my 1981 set have honourary CDR Go! status? It'd fit on about 3 mp3-CDs, probably.

I.M. (I.M.), Sunday, 20 March 2005 01:50 (nineteen years ago) link

thomas -- no dedicated Mine The Gap thread yet that I know of, though Matos was the first to make a Mine The Gap under that moniker unless I'm mistaken (Matos?), but this thread should suffice for now, as it is relatively low traffic.

I.M. -- not a problem! Yeah, it would be a Multiple CDR-Go, but that's just fine.. (I did a 2xCDRGO for 1988 myself)

Might someone consider turning this amazing collection into an '81 CDRGo? [My computer won't let it happen at the present.] It's a pretty damned impressive collection.
