I'm surprised at the BNM for the Dogleg album - it's a fine debut but didn't feel that distinguished to me at least on one listen

much more up my alley: Wednesday's I Was Trying To Describe You to Someone, found via my Discover playlist. lovely hazy depressive bedroom-and-garage emo with elements of slowcore and some surprising little turns. features a song called "Maura" for extra ILM points.

the dogleg is very listenable

i agree w/ Simon ... it's a really good album! and that score is an over-correction. but that's ok.

if anyone missed it last year, this is a good time to check out Fred Thomas's doom-laden ambient emo maybe-masterpiece Aftering which sounds especially great right now

A couple listens in to that Dogleg album and I'm really enjoying it.

after two listens I am ready to declare NO DREAM as considerably better than POST- but not quite as good as Worry which I don't think is toppable. also much more punk than I was expecting

Yessss! Halfway through and this is precisely the release of pent-up energy needed. Agree with Simon that it's a lot punkier than the previous. I'm crazy about the album art too.

"State Line" has been my NO DREAM highlight so far. I still think We Cool? is his best

funny the title track is the mandatory "one song I find skippable" which seems to exist on every single Rosenstock release for me.

also I think the new Caligula's Horse record (and the superior previous one) would appeal more to emo thread cru people than most of the metal thread. big soaring heart-on-yr-sleeve shit, pretty close to the better moments on the Dear Hunter albums.

there's a worthwhile way to tell/cover that story but scanning the article it seems extremely sympathetic tot he point of fawning
