Duke, Saturday, 14 March 2020 14:24 (four years ago) link

great to confirm they go further that psych kinetic tip

synth dude must've had a blast recording this; disquieting oscillations on next level

gaudio, Thursday, 19 March 2020 18:11 (four years ago) link

heard an interview where they confirmed this was their 'most electro' album yet. excited doesn't even cover it

strangely hookworm but they manage ream shoegaze poetry (imago), Thursday, 19 March 2020 18:15 (four years ago) link

think i found the interview. same

(ha, this is were you guys talked about the vesperith record. had no idea, until now by reading the whole thread, that Jun-His was involved. still stand by my initial impression that vesperith's album is uplifting and radiating. a grower, too)

gaudio, Friday, 20 March 2020 12:41 (four years ago) link

three weeks pass...

five minutes into the opening track: they've done it. they've actually fucking done it

Listened through a couple times this morning - seems like more of a refinement/streamlining than an escalation of any kind to me but still very very good.

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Thursday, 16 April 2020 23:33 (four years ago) link

nah this is a leap forward imo

when I come out, can you introduce me as Jagger (imago), Friday, 17 April 2020 11:23 (three years ago) link

i don't know what it is yet but it's very good

can we somehow force them to come back and tour again on this album and maybe bring Circle and Demilich

Corduroy Stridulations (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Friday, 17 April 2020 11:33 (three years ago) link

Loving this new one so far, there's a new clarity that helps elevate it.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Friday, 17 April 2020 19:45 (three years ago) link

liking this a lot. I think i still dig the last 2 lps more but I love the direction they've gone. these synths are great

gman59, Friday, 17 April 2020 23:33 (three years ago) link

if this isn't my aoty then it's been quite a year. it's like they've hacked into my head and optimised the contents

when I come out, can you introduce me as Jagger (imago), Saturday, 18 April 2020 14:27 (three years ago) link

Just put this on, it's definitely less metal (though still too metal for, say, my parents) but it's doing some cool hypnotic droney stuff that I enjoy.

Revolutionary Girl Utrenja (Tom Violence), Saturday, 18 April 2020 18:47 (three years ago) link

Track five sounds like a KMFDM tribute or something.

Revolutionary Girl Utrenja (Tom Violence), Saturday, 18 April 2020 19:19 (three years ago) link

Uusi teknokratia is cool as hell

jmm, Sunday, 19 April 2020 14:03 (three years ago) link

'Appelsiini' iirc.

pomenitul, Sunday, 19 April 2020 23:18 (three years ago) link

Its good but not a patch on their last 2 imo (opinion may change obviously after more listens)

Oor Neechy, Sunday, 19 April 2020 23:34 (three years ago) link

Cool album, yeah.

irl lol

a quick listening assured they're already on another spectrum. Uusi just keeps on giving

will listen to this on headphones tonight

that it departs with a track called Revelation to arrive at the The Gates of Heaven -that's a closer!- might justify its lyrics existence unfolding

i envy the sense of satisfaction that must've come with thinking up that response.

Anyway, the first few songs feel like a bit of a re-tread of Värähtelijä, though I do appreciate the increased prominence of synths.

yes but the two minutes after those five minutes too, whoa...

First Oranssi album that 100% resonates w/ me, and how! Mind-bending stuff.

yeah I posted that and then the synth came in :D

when I come out, can you introduce me as Jagger (imago), Wednesday, 22 April 2020 15:25 (three years ago) link

Okay, I love this album. It seems noisier and denser than Värähtelijä; fewer slow-building trances, more of an apocalyptic industrial sci-fi vibe.

jmm, Friday, 24 April 2020 00:40 (three years ago) link

Some of it is die krupps-ish a definite 90s industrial vibe from it. Dont think its as great as the previous two albums

Oor Neechy, Friday, 24 April 2020 01:10 (three years ago) link

It has done away with some of the slow-burning epics, but the counterpoint is that it is now just wall-to-wall bangers. There really is not a wasted second either

imago, Friday, 24 April 2020 09:19 (three years ago) link

am i crazy or are the harsh vocals on this some of the harshest they've done? like the first track just sounds demented.

Corduroy Stridulations (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Friday, 24 April 2020 09:36 (three years ago) link

Okay, I absolutely love this. Way more industrial, esp in the second half, and intense than I expected, but it works. I also hear a ton of Circle influence, especially in "Taivaan portti" with all of that repetition.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 21:18 (three years ago) link

lol when you bumped the Circle thread the other day I had to hold my tongue not to mention this

imago, Tuesday, 28 April 2020 21:55 (three years ago) link

Ha, yeah, that NWOFHM influence is certainly a big part of why I like this one as much as I do.

If you've not yet heard @Oranssi_Pazuzu's 'Mestarin kynsi' then we suggest you spend the time between now and Friday (May 15th) getting familiar, as they'll be live streaming a full play through of the album at 9pm CEST / 8pm BST / 3pm EDT / Noon PDT.https://t.co/UYxYVooUdF

sort of realised during this that the second half might be the godlier half yeah

imago, Friday, 15 May 2020 19:59 (three years ago) link

re: the industrial n' electronic bits. yeah, they're very much pushed upfront. after this streaming though, i can't unlisten to some kind of Olof Dreijer/Oni-ish influence. more subtle, but crucial

knife sharpening tips (gaudio), Friday, 15 May 2020 20:46 (three years ago) link

Wasn't able to watch the stream, but I'm totally sold on the second half being better.

Both otm. Thanks for posting the link lj!

two weeks pass...

I'm discovering the record as I type, finding it really good, I like the spectrum of sound and the hypnotic quality, the way the synths and chimes sound as the rest is buried, creating this orchestral atmosphere.
Not a big fan of his growls but that's alright.

Indeed. Now behold the light flipside to OP's dark!

imago, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 06:20 (three years ago) link

In this year of no shows I’m so glad I made the last-minute decision to see them with Insect Ark last year, I had never even listened to either band before and it was exhilarating.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Wednesday, 16 September 2020 12:00 (three years ago) link

I think there's some sort of Oranssi Pazuzu production connection on this one. It's really good - fun listen!

Whaaa ty for the revive, it turns out they're playing in a small place just 20km from here! :D Very unusual given their ever expanding fame but I'll take it! (if we can ever go to concerts again that is)
